Lewis (outside)
Awuzie (outside)
Brown (slot)

I know everyone got tired of seeing brown get torched or "handsy" but when he got demoted then thrown back into the slot I think he cleaned up well and maximized his short area quickness

Jones will play alot as we all know nickel is the new base defense now a days

This is my thought as well. I would also like to see Woods at FS.

Bizarre?

You dont remember most of this board saying he needs to be moved to Safety because he couldnt cover?

Most of the board was dumb. He was a rookie CB. It's not surprising a rookie CB struggled.

You watch him now and when he's locked up manning a guy, he's actually decent now. He's definitely more a CB than a S, where he struggles in space and reacting to the ball.

I get that he's failed to live up to Rd 1 hype but people thinking he just blows or sucks are overreacting just a bit.

Yeah you can say he's not a good free safety. But Byron can cover. I blame this staff for why he hasn't progressed more. He's a corner.

Coming out of college Lewis was said to be the best slot CB in the draft. Putting Jones on the outside is not starting Jones over Lewis. Simply putting players at their best positions to succeed.

Add to the fact this is modern era passing attacks that regularly employ 3 and 4 receiver sets. Slot corner is effectively a starting position.

It's Awuzie, Byron, and Lewis.

Brown is the injury fill-in. Brown's bad habits were exposed last year.

I cant take anyone wanting Jones to start over Lewis, seriously...
Why?

Here's why I ask. The knock on Byron Jones at Safety has never been about his lack of ability to cover; in that he excels. Where he has been a disappointment is physicality and support in the ground game. I'm not necessarily saying Jones is better than Lewis, but with his experience in this defense, right now he very well may be better. Furthermore, I'd say I trust Lewis in the slot moreso than Byron due to Lewis' overall quickness and lateral agility...Lewis just seems like he would be a better matchup against the typical slot receiver...but I could be wrong. On the other hand, against offenses that feature a receiver/TE hybrid, I'd prefer to have Byron follow that player around the field. People forget what life was like before Byron Jones. TE's had a tendency to take over games against Dallas. Byron, for the most part, has changed that narrative.

Byrons cover-ability and ability to cover TEs on here has been greatly exaggerated. I have seen TEs consistently make him look foolish in coverage. The dude is garbage.

Im talking about when we are in base. If Lewis isnt playing more % of the snaps than Jones, that is a huge problem...

I don't see the problem honestly. Byron can cover just as good as those guys can. We can sit here and talk about how bad of a free safety he was......which may even be debatable...but the guy can cover. And with his size....to me it makes more sense to have him on the outside than it does Jourdan Lewis who's a bit smaller.

When's the last time a tight end went off on us? We faced some pretty good ones last year.......Kelce, Graham, Reed, Engram, Ertz.......they seemed relatively quiet last season against us.

I think early on you will see several combinations
But Lewis will be one of the starters for sure
Awuzie and Jones I’m betting will both fight it out for the other spot and Lewis will slide inside with the smaller slot guys jones on the te in sub pkgs

Alright, quick exercise; name your starting three cornerbacks (LCB, RCB and slot).

Here's mine:
Awuzie
B. Jones
Lewis (slot)

Admittedly, mine are reliant on two beliefs: 1) Byron Jones can be developed into a reliable corner by Richard; and 2) J. Lewis is tailor-made to take over the slot duties from Scandrick.

What are your starting three?
People sleep on Byron at CB. He is the lengthy, athletic CB that the Seahawks system likes to employ.
