David West will be the first Big off the Bench for SA, he can guard the post, and hit the 15' jumper. I see him more than just a footnote.

West averaged 11.7 points last season on 47.1 percent shooting, in addition to pulling down 6.8 rebounds per game. He'll definitely be more than a side note.

yeah, the same way Chris "Birdman" Andersen wasn't a footnote. He'll play in the regular season because the Spurs play a lot of players. In the playoffs he will be glued to the bench like Shawn Marion was. Any ring he gets from this endeavor will be as valuable as the ones they give the trainers.

If you say so, but I beg to differ. With the loss of Aaron Banes, and Tiago Spitter he has a defined roll from what I can see.

By the end of the year, he may not even be playing over Anderson. Regardless of position, he is way far down the list of their important players... 9th or 10th. He is chasing a ring. It wouldn't be nearly as outrageous if not for the ridiculous pay cut. He's still a solid player.

There has always been a stigma with ring chasing, I'm not sure why people are pretending there's not. Do you think Dirk would be happy if he hadn't won one in 2011 and had to go sit on Tim Duncan's bench to get one? That he would smile and tell his kids, "hey Tim Duncan owned me and the Western Conference for years, but he was nice enough to let me ride on his back and get a ring with him. He even patted me on the head and told me I was almost as good as him!"

Agreed, West may play more regular season minutes than Tim Duncan(who supposedly will be down to 25 mpg).
He'll have plenty of a role.
He probably chose SA over CLE because his role will be much larger.
Aldridge is 4
Duncan is 5
West comes in for Duncan and stays for Aldridge when Duncan returns.

I applaud the guy for saying it is about winning not money.

Man, you post some really dumb things.
West would have preferred to win a ring in his prime as would any player but when that doesn't happen you don't accept losing and take the biggest payday possible.
This time next year watch Kobe "chase a ring". Many others will too.

This will be a great addition to the new CBA, should have been done sooner.

Sources: Union proposing to use TV revenue to help fund health insurance for former NBA players
The National Basketball Players Association is proposing to use millions of dollars of its share of the NBA's impending television revenue windfall to cover health-care insurance costs for its former players, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

The plan is estimated to cost between $10 million-$15 million a year and a vote on passage of the union's initiative is set for the NBPA's July 20 membership meeting in Las Vegas. The union's 30 team player representatives are expected to pass the plan with ease and start the process of covering the retired players quickly, league sources said.

The NBPA has been researching the names and addresses of the approximate 1,500 living ex-players and hoping to offer three separate health-care options to them, sources said.

Stories of destitute ex-players needing basic medical care – including the inability to afford the likes of knee and hip replacements – moved executive director Michele Roberts, director of player relations Roger Mason and the NBPA's executive committee to probe the idea with the league's players, sources said. Several players told Yahoo Sports that they're enthusiastic over the idea.

The NBA is preparing to welcome a new $2.7 billion annual TV deal into its coffers in 2016, with team revenues and player salaries rising dramatically. The league was founded in 1946, and there are scores of living players who predated the explosion of salaries and revenue in the league.

as it should be. if CLE were in the west, I'd give SA the nod as favorites, but it's clearly CLE

CLE is safest bet to get tot he Finals, not to win it all.
But what is today matters little.
There is along way to go before we get to the playoffs.
Teams need to position themselves right now to be in the playoff chase them at the trade deadline they can look for the right playoff mix.

This time last year CLE was LeBron, Kyrie and a bunch of bums. Added Love, Mozgov, Shump, JR all playoff rotation guys after the fact.

lol, there you go again with the insults. Once again trying to hide your sad lack of knowledge.

Here is David West himself on the subject, barely 9 months ago, troll. Try harder.

There is a long way to go until the playoffs? What an amazing observation. I'm starting to believe you really are the Nostradamus you claimed to be. Cleveland is pretty obviously the favorite and for good reason. You're going to tire yourself out with all o that thinking you're doing.

Which is why they are the safest bet to win it all. Again, I don't think CLE would be a head to head favorite vs SA, but considering how much better they are than the rest of the east, that translates to the best odds of winning the finals.

All I'm saying, is mathematically speaking, let's give the Spurs a 50% chance of getting out of the west and then a 60% chance of winning the finals versus Cleveland, that still only gives them a 30% chance of winning it all. Now let's give CLE a 90% chance of getting out of the east, and then a 40% chance versus the Spurs, that gives them a 36% chance to win it all.

I am going to put you ignore and save myself the desire to teach you basics.

Dirk himself has stated he would have chased a title and probably left the Mavs had he not won it all in 2011.
The fact you claim to be a Mavs fan is just embarrassing.

You have zero credibility man, zero.

You are talking about Vegas while I am talking about reality.
But even Vegas has now installed the SAS as favorites at 3-1. Cavs are 11-4 and GSW are 5-1/ bovada.net

Today SAS then the Cavs then GSW and in that order are most likely to win the 2016 Title.
Things change day to day as teams add players and all that but today that is a fairly easy order to lay out.

Dirk would have never sat on the bench and waved a towel for Tim Duncan, troll. Gone to another team, yes. Play for the vet minimum on a team that would be title favorites without him, no. The fact that you think he would makes you an embarrassing joke of a Mavs fan with zero credibility.

And LOL at you ignoring me. You are the one jumping in my posts and throwing insults everytime I post because I owned you in the past. If there is a downside to a zero IQ basketball fan ignoring me, I have yet to figure out what it is. What a loser.
