I actually think the best big out there for LA is Gasol but I don't think they have a shot in hell to get him. If the Lakers could get a guy like Jordan, I they could then role with Jordan, Randle, Russell, Clarkson, Kobe and keep whomever else they wanted on their current roster or, they could go out and have room to sign other FAs. That would also work well for them with Love because I don't believe Love is leaving Cleveland this year but I think he's gone next. I think Love's best move is to sign a one year deal in Cleveland and then leave next year when he can get more money. That would then allow the Lakers to have the defensive guy they really need in Jordan and the Post guy in Love, plus a good core of players to compete in the West. Next year, Kobe is either gone or he's playing for a lot less money, which allows the Lakers to maybe sign two Max guys next year.

Clarkson is a good player. The thing about him is that he can play Point or Two Guard. He offers a lot of flexibility so if you have a guy like Kobe, who can no longer play big minutes but will likely still be able to score, a guy like Clarkson is valuable to you. He can get good minutes subbing for Kobe and probably for Russell and provide valuable minutes. Once Kobe is gone, he's probably going to be a guy who can step in and play well for the Lakers. He won't be Kobe but he will play well for them. I like him a lot. He has to get better defensively but I think he can get better. Right now, strength is the biggest weakness for him IMO.

Edit:

Well, so much for Love coming back to L.A.

Gasol agreed with MEM and is taking no meetings.

TC to Suns is "OK" for Mavs. Will reportedly be a S&T that brings BWright back and also creates Mavs cap space. The TC cap hold was 20m. http://www.clutchmagonline.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/35998524.jpg
His trade will leave with a max slot (plus a lot more depending upon the year 1 BWright number) for DAJ. Because DAL and PHX are under the cap the trades don't need to match.
Lost ability to S&T TC to Clips which wanted him (close friend of CP3) if they lost DAJ.

Aldridge to SAS and DAJ to DAL seem likely.
LAL signs no one as I expected.

Once all the agreements are made there will be a few a days worth of maneuvering to fit it all under caps.

DAL all in on DAJ as noted. But also are the favorites for his services.

LMAO

I saw this earlier. Was kinda wondering what that means for Aldridge?

Doesn't mean anything. SA traded Splitter to Atlanta to clear space. They can fit Danny at his new deal, Aldridge at a max deal, Kawhi at 5/90 and still fill out the roster w/ Timmy and Manu on a discount.

all valid points.....
but opinions are still that.... I told you so's are just... well... arrogant...

Edit: and i say this with respect, because I do like reading your responses.

it's real simple, basic stuff.
i shouldn't even have to say it at all.
it should be understood.
common sense isn't arrogance.
my actual guesses are no better than anyone else's but the lakers situation is plain to see.
just not much meat on that bone right now.

There was no dispute this outcome was extremely possible. It was logical, but it wasn't the only logic. Most in this thread realized that the Lakers were fighting an uphill battle.

Its not about being right... its about being informed..... hopefully being informed is more important than being right.
Holding on to incorrect, or correct outcomes is emotional and prideful. Hence my comment.

ultimately to be here and communicate you have to assume a certain level of logic and common sense on the other end.
i could care less about being right, but care quite a lot about time-wasting arguing nonsense.

logic isn't right or wrong. it is just logical or not.
the thought lal was gonna lure big-time free agents this off-season was not logical ... in any sense.
pretending it was merely devalues one's ability to think logically.
posting like that is really just trolling.

nothing wrong with homeristic pie in the sky posts, so long as one admits that's what it is.
emotion and pride are actually quite helpful in not being idiotic.
i.e. having pride in what one puts worth and an ego that self-motivates to gather information and thus be informed.

the mavs are meeting with LMA right now but I've been saying for days the SAS are the guys to beat there.
that is based upon logic.
i could definitely be wrong but the logic isn't.

anyone arguing a max guy was gonna join LAL was completely ignoring logic altogether.

Barea to the Heat? The Mavericks roster is rapidly shrinking while Cuban and Parsons play video games in Jordan's basement.

Well, we have Green and Leonard locked up. Duncan will be back, probably Manu too. I think Mills and Diaw stay. Unfortunately Beli, Joseph, and Baynes may have to leave. Of the 3, I want Baynes the most, but I do want to keep all 3.

One guy I wouldn't mind the Spurs going after is C/F Thomas Robinson. He is a young journeyman who hasn't quite put it together yet. However, learning from Pop, Duncan, Diaw, and possibly Aldridge should help him become a value, low cost asset off the bench.

Sixers are Hilarious... They may lose games, but they don't lose trades

The Kings traded forwards Carl Landry and Jason Thompson and 2014 No. 8 overall draft pick Nik Stauskas to the 76ers for the rights to overseas players (not named Dario Saric) and a future second-round draft pick, sources said.
The Kings will send the Sixers a protected future first-round draft pick as part of the deal, league sources told Yahoo Sports.
(along with the right to swap first rounders in two other future drafts)

Gasol, Osik and Draymond both resign with the grizz, Pels & warriors, respectively.

I think that signing Aldridge was never in the Cards for the Lakers once San Antonio cleared space. If anything, I suspect that Aldridge probably took the meeting, more out of courtesy or respect to the organization then anything.

Good move for the Sixers. Get in some veterans which they need and get tipped a ton.
The Sixers have more soft assets than anyone.
I expect a lot of teams to want some of their young talent.
