I think it gets done, but it's up to Dez, not the Cowboys.

Dez Bryant tells Stephen Jones he'll skip camp, sit out games if no deal

As the NFL deadline for franchise players to sign multiyear contracts approaches, wide receiver Dez Bryant has attempted to increase the pressure on the Dallas Cowboys.

The wide receiver personally informed Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones that he will not attend training camp and will sit out regular-season games unless they reach agreement on a long-term deal before Wednesday's deadline, according to league sources.

Denver Broncos wide receiver Demaryius Thomas, Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Justin Houston andNew York Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul is Wednesday. If the players have not signed by then, they must play for the franchise number, which in Bryant's situation is $12.8 million.

Bryant cannot be fined for missing training camp without signing his franchise tender but would be forfeiting $752,000 for each regular-season game missed while not having the ability to get the long-term contract he desires.

Last season, in a contract year, Bryant led the NFL with 16 touchdown receptions. The Cowboys won the NFC East with a 12-4 record and helped coach Jason Garrett earn a contract extension.

The Cowboys have reacted as though they perceive Bryant's rhetoric to be an empty threat. He has undermined it by taking part in some individual drills during team OTAs and by appearing on the sidelines at minicamp even though little or no progress had been achieved in negotiations.

If Bryant were to follow through on his threat, the Cowboys would begin the season without arguably their best remaining offensive player as well as pass-rusher Greg Hardy and linebacker Rolando McClain, both of whom are currently suspended for the first four weeks of the season.

sounds like this could get bad. if he don't get signed it will not be good for him or team will hang over there heads the whole offseason and will affect how the season goes. not good

I'm not sure what leverage Dez has here by doing this. I guess he can sign after the 10th or 11th game so it counts as a year?

It appears that his agent called Ed Werder and gave him this info. The agent/player would be stupid not to threaten to hold out at this point; however, once the July 15th deadline has passed, Dez has zero to gain and could lose by missing camp or games. If his stats decline this season, that only hurts him next year in contract negations.

It's not as if the Cowboys are not offering him a contract. It is his choice if he declines the offer.
