• 2011 CBA: Five years with 7.5 percent raises for Bird free agents; four years with 4.5 percent raises for other players (including all sign-and-trade transactions)

It's 4 years/$74M to switch teams for my guy
5/100M to re-up

Melodrama last year hurt NJ and Denver. Both sides know this is the way to move on.

(with Pauls knees he doesn't want an extra guaranteed year?)

he would, but i doubt that would factor in much. I doubt he's not an elite player 4 years from now

John Hollinger tries to temper Knick fans enthusiasm but running Chris Paul through the number cruncher that is the new CBA and bottom lines it this way: "Looks like a slam dunk, right? Not so fast." Hollinger notes that Paul can't earn more than $13.5 million under any reasonable scenario and would sacrifice a large fortune long-term.

Hollinger writes: "So if Paul really wants to go to New York, he can go -- as long as he's willing to give up, at a minimum, forty million dollars to do it. (The same, incidentally, applies for Deron Williams or Dwight Howard.)"

---

It's not so much the cap, actually the Max seems to have gone up. It is signing with a new team that limits your Years and annual raises

I think part of the reason he can't earn more than $13.5 million is because the Knicks gave Melo a max contract. Paul would be losing quite a bit of money to sign with NY.

The Heat trio each signed for less than max, even though they were giving up money, their losses throughout the life of contract is much less than what someone like Paul/Dwight would be losing going to NY.

Now, if Melo would have signed for less than max, any player going to NY would be much more realistic at this point. Say what you want about it "not being about the money," and it's true to some extent, but losing $40million+ is a lot. That's not something that can easily be replaced with endorsements from being in a big city.

Lakers wouldn't need another star if they got Dwight.

He was going to retire whether [or not] they won another title.

It's going to be funny watching the Mavericks this season without Chandler.

Don't worry, the greatest forward of all time, Dirk Nowitzki, will lead them to a title just like he did every year before this last year.

Ah, wait.

Kobe is 33. MJ won his 4th at that age. Everything that I'm hearing is Kobe's knee is in the best shape it's been in years. There's been reports that he has been doing between the leg dunks and just basically jumping out of the gym. I really believe he's gonna have a monster season this year.

The fact of the matter is that Kobe Bryant played essentially 2-1/2 years straight of basketball between winning back to back titles and the Olympics.

He's finally gotten some rest -- aside from that one pickup league game, he has been resting up all off-season and finally giving his body a chance to heal instead of doing what most guys probably do and doing preventative workouts in order to get "healthy enoough" (strengthening your calves, quads, etc to compensate).

If the Lakers get Dwight Howard and a serviceable point guard who can be a 10-10 guy ppg-ast, it's over.

You can even keep Bynum and bring him off the bench, since he needs limited minutes to watch his health anyway. Ship off Gasol, keep Odom.

And if the Lakers add a garbage-man like Kevin Love? Pppshhh.

Still, the wildcard in all of this I firmly believe is OKC. If Dwight opts for OKC over the other markets, then it truly will be over. They'll win, and win handily. Only thing Dwight's got to do is be able to stay on the court and not collect dumb fouls.

I still think LeBron should have tried to go to Orlando. LeBron-Dwight would be unstoppable as well.

We're not getting Chandler or Nene for 8 million. They're both getting max or close to it.

Btw, Billy King already denied that the Dwight conversation ever happened. I'm glad because I still have faith in Lopez. He'll never be Dwight defensively or on the boards, but I think he'll be a better scorer than Dwight. Of course you'd still rather have Howard than Lopez, but I'll take 70% of Howard (which is what Lopez is), for $4M than have 100% of Dwight for $17M (and lost 2 first rounders, and have to absorb Hedu).

King said they were definitely looking for a big. I think this means Hump isn't coming back (fine, I don't want to overpay him anyway). I like Nene as a FA signing because he'll compensate for Lopez's rebounding and defensive issues.

17 for Deron, 17 for Nene, and about 12 left after all the other guy's contracts. I'd like a perimeter scorer like Jamal Crawford and/or another versatile big like David West.

I think the Grizz showed last year how efficient big men could dominate in the playoffs. This is a roster that could do that.

There's no way Nene gets max, at least I hope the Nets aren't that dumb. That'd be like Orlando and Rashard Lewis all over again. Chandler and Nene are quality guys, but not max or close to it type of players. I'd say 12M is about what they will get.

According to ESPN Deron isn't gonna sign an extension in NJ. He could still resign there, but I doubt it. If the Lakers can get CP3, maybe they can get Deron who is pretty much the same player anyway.

Chris Paul’s(notes) agent informed New Orleans Hornets officials on Wednesday that his client will not sign a contract extension and wants to be traded to the New York Knicks, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Paul has reached out to Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard(notes) recently, encouraging Howard to find a way for the two to play together, sources told Yahoo! Sports. That would be a difficult scenario for the Knicks to make happen. Paul’s desire to join the Knicks was cemented after he spent so much time in New York over the summer with close friend Carmelo Anthony(notes).

If Paul were to opt out of the final year of his contract and become a free agent after this season, he could sign a maximum four-year, $74 million deal with another team. The Knicks currently would have enough salary-cap room to offer him a four-year, $55.5 million contract with a starting salary of $13 million.

Knicks fans are full of it ... no way CP3 goes there. Hes not taking that big a pay cut. If you wanna just go win a ring ... why not force a trade to the thunder.

Not to mention the Knicks have nothing to offer in a trade. Paul going to the Thunder would force them to trade Westbrook, don't know how salaries would match on that since I believe Westbrook is still on his rookie contract; so he's pretty cheap at the moment.

Deron williams: Don't know why people are tripping just bc I'm opting out doesn't mean that I won't resign with the nets! W/ new CBA it makes sense

Playing with Kobe & Dwight > Playing with Durant

Word on the street today is Dwight's agent has called the Lakers and told them it's their move, and they're ready to get a deal done.

Also, CP3s agent has notified the Hornets that he will not re-sign with New Orleans, and wants to be traded to the Knicks, for those naysayers above.
