Nets to make offer for Dwight Howard

Without a Howard trade the Nets have:

C- Lopez ($3M)
PF- ?
SF- ?
SG- Morrow
PG- Deron

Bench
Petro
James
Farmar
Gaines

And, most importantly-- 27 million dollars in cap space.

What if you used that 27M and brought in a big rebounder/defensive guy like Nene to partner with Lopez, a perimeter scorer like J-Rich to feed off ball movement/low-post kick outs, and STILL have enough to bring over Kirilenko or Battier as a 25minute a game bench guy (or hell, Humphries if he's still around and reasonably priced).

Or if you can't get Nene, David West is out there. And if you can't get J-Rich, JR Smith. Wilson Chandler might be available.

My point is that Lopez+Deron+depth and diversity is better than Howard+Deron+crap.

You're killing me with the break ups on ny phone.

Why did lopez's rpg go down? Humphries in a contract year, mono/25 lb. Weight loss. His rebounding can be average and his man defense is acceptable(against most people not named Dwight). He blocks more shots than Bynum and affects a lot With his reach. Where he fails is as a paint protector/help defender. He's never put anyone on their *** and we all know Bynum won't hesitate to do that.

Lopez also demonstrated he's not a #1 scorer or they would've been better. But once he played with Deron his numbers shot way up. Bynum does a good job of keeping the ball high and finishing but he has so much help. Lopez is a 1 on 1 iso scorer with moves Bynum doesn't have. Lopez torched Bynum .

Bynum is a much better defensive player. A center that avereged 6 rpg is a liability to most teams. Even offensively, the only thing Lopez has going for him, you're talking about a 13-15ppg scorer versus a 20 ppg scorer. Bynum's ability to get double digit boards or close to it, makes up for his offense, so to me, it's near identical in talent.

And the Lakers clearly could do Gasol instead, who while older, is also better than Lopez, so they clearly have near identical if not better assets.

Brook Lopez is a free agent after this summer, which actually works against the Nets. Orlando may not want to commit big money to Lopez so another team could steal him away. If not they'll end up paying 13 or so+ just because that's what a young big is worth.

Can't argue that.

Not neccesarily. Either team that gets Dwight would pick in the bottom end of round 1. So the NJ/LAL 2012 pick is gonna suck reguardless.

The Houston 2012 pick is top 14 protected, which means if Houston doesn't make the playoffs. The Magic have to wait till 2013. If they don't make the playoffs in 2013, they wait till 2014. It's top 14 protected every year till 2016, which at that point becomes a 2nd rounder. So the picks are near identical

So can the Lakers, although I doubt they are forced to. Lamar Odom's 2013 salary is only $2.4 million garunteed (worth 8.9 this year). Luke Walton has 2 years (5.8 each) left on his deal, which may be covered by insurance if he retires.

SF - Hedo Turkoglu (11.0M)
SG - Anthony Morrow (4.0M)
PG - Deron Williams (16.4M)
PF - ?
C - Dwight Howard (18.1M)

Bench:

Damion James (1.2M)
Jordan Farmar (4.0M)
Johan Petro (3.25M)
Sundiata Gaintes (900K)

That team right there is making $59M. That leaves no other room for additional players. And that team doesn't scream championship to me. It screams "not enough and no way to get to enough".

They could sign Nene/Chandler, then trade Lopez for Dwight. Ofcourse signing Nene/Chandler eats up enough cap room that if you can't trade for Dwight, you have to hope that

C- BLopez
PF- Nene/Chandler
SF- ???
SG- Anthony Morrow

is good enough that Derron resigns. Cause he takes up, $18 million year 1. Resigning Lopez+Nene and Chandler will take up 28 or so combined. And the guys like Morrow (4 million), Farmar (4.25 million) and John Petro (3.5 million) fill up the 58 million dollar cap.

No reason to sign both Nene and Chandler. Just one or the other would do. Then get a perimeter scorer to send Morrow to a bench role. (I love Morrow, but I also like having a guy who can create his own shot, especially off the dribble, who isn't also the PG).

No it's not. Those guys are always floating around all the time. Dwight by himself took crap(our starting backcourt in our 12 win season) to the finals. Let alone Nene and Deron

If there wasn't a max Dwight would go for $40M a year.

Are you messing with me?

not at all, if an NFL player pulled this, I'd say fat chance. But anybody who has watched the NBA knows this happens. Even if push came to shove and the Hornets kept paul and he became a free agent, we would do a sign and trade during the offseason.

Nene would come first.

A Dwight trade would be allowed to be 150%. And Petro and/or Farmar could be in the deal

Dwight is coming to Dallas.

In fact, if played correctly, we could get Deron Williams next year also. Everyone wants to get involved with this NBA championship flavor here.

It really doesn't look like the Nets are going after Dwight, and seem to be closer to signing Nene...

Adrian wojanowski: celts, clips, rockets heavily engaged with hornets.
Paul has indicated Clippers and Warriors could raise chances of keeping him long-term if they sign center Tyson Chandler too, sources say.

Hmmmm. Rondo, Eric Gordon(and minny's draft pick), Stephen curry, or Iman Frumpert.

Hypothetical trade: Clippers send Eric Gordon, Chris Kaman's expiring contract, 2 #1 picks, and $3M to the Hornets for Chris Paul and Trevor Ariza.

The Clips get to pair Blake Griffin and Chris Paul with Trevor Ariza providing some needed defensive toughness. The Hornets get an exciting young player in Gordon, save money $10M this year and $6M next, get 2 #1 picks, and get $3M cash. A bankrupt team gets cash infusion and assets, the Clips become one of the most exciting teams in the league.

This trade still makes the most sense to me.

I don't see that happening.

I'm sure the Lakers will up their offer now that they couldn't net CP3.

Odom, Bynum > Anything Nets can offer

Remember Stars have a way of going where they want. Dwight wants the Nets he'll get the Nets

The only reason he wants the Nets is because of this Chris Paul BS.

Hey u still got Bynum .

20/10, tough D, all that.

And I thInj you'll get cp3 when it's all said and done. But Dwight is the 2nd best player in the league and DWill might be the best PG.

Minimum 5-peat
