News: NFL Network suspends Brian Baldinger for suggesting bounty on Zeke

I understand all that and I would agree had he said it straight forward as himself. He was doing a character though which I agree is foolish on his part to say bounty and hurt a player....but again he was doing a bit.

Very short sighted on his and 97.5's part though. They could have not posted the podcast and none of this would have ever happened.

The problem is that 99% of the people who heard about the incident didn't hear the show. They heard about the incident on Twitter or Facebook or one of the billion NFL blogs and message boards that clutter the net. All they know is, "Baldinger says the Eagles should put a bounty on Zeke Elliot." I have no sympathy for the idiot. I actually love the irony of a media member being the victim of a non-story getting blown out of proportion.

He said it of his own free (and stupid) will. He has freedom of speech and employers have freedom to discipline their employees.

I get it but what about providing an option for him to go on air, providing an extensive public apology to all those involved. I think that would be more effective than sweeping it under the rug for 6 months. I think he was on a short leash for other issues and this was their ticket to move him out.

He works for the league though. He doesn't work for the Eagles. Player safety is a huge issue and as a representative of the league he should not support that stance. I did not expect 6 months but it doesn't surprise me that the league would come down hard to send a message.

I think 6 months is ridiculous. This is, however, the way the NFL handles things. They'll give the 1 game suspension to Josh Brown until things become public - then they'll drop the hammer on him. They'll give 10 games to Greg Hardy for a single incident, but 1 game to Brown for over a year's worth of incidents. Why? Because one was very public and one wasn't. The league is all about saving face and trying to look good. It's never about right and wrong with them, it's about looking like they care about right and wrong.

I swear, with the pathetic pandering they do you'd think they were trying to win an election.

I think we're too easily offended. All Baldinger did was say some meaningless words. It's not like he put a bounty on Elliott or did something illegal. The NFL Network should have said it does not condone suggesting that a bounty be put on a player and left it at that.

What Baldinger said bothers me less than the rumors that get spread by so-called media without any factual basis. At least his comment was simply his opinion, as stupid as it was. This suspension just shows what a hypersensitive society we live in.

I don't think it says much about society at large. It says a lot about large corporate culture who are extremely careful to cultivate their image.

NFL Network is owned by the NFL.... you can't have an employee suggesting a player be targetted.

He's basically gone for the entire football season. I'm willing to bet that's the end of his career on NFL Network.

He will join the Eagles media, he is an Eagles homer anyway so he should be right at home!
