NFLPA looking into Cowboys' direct dealing with players

There is a very good reason they don't want the owners dealing directly with the players and have what they feel is a safeguard in place. Think some of these owners wouldn't get cute with that cap and do a workaround with the player? By having an agent in place, they lead the public to believe it's all on the up and up because if an agent does that he gets booted out.

Do you really think all of these owners abide by that cap? Think there aren't some side deals and just who would be policing that? Think all of these owners got the money to buy a team following the rules? Hell, they don't trust each other.

Excellent point....there's an out there about behind **** goes on before free agency. At least three agents talks they had deals in place for their players from other teams at a month before free agency started. What's crazy is they said the bulk of the contracts were done threw texting via third party, elevators at the owners' meetings and so so.

All the more reason to rescind the offer and tell him to eat rocks and suffer though the next two years at a paltry 12.9m...minus all applicable fines of course.

I’m not sure who leaked it but heard someone say if they could just get in the same room together they could get a deal done. That’s probably why the Union got involved .

While I agree with your premise there is a protocol to follow that both sides have agreed to.

Again, the difference in comparison is the hold out.

It's not a leak.

That's exactly what Jerry just did with Demarcus Lawrence and Jaylon Smith. He went around the agents.

That's why the NFLPA is threatening action.

Those articles are very naive because they don't consider the contract ramifications. Would you trade our punter for Von Miller? Sounds like a no-brainer right? What if Von Miller was holding out and demanded a $60M/yr guaranteed deal?

That's an exaggerated example to illustrate the point, but it is apt.

The Raiders had an asset that wasn't worth much to them (due to the contract situation) and they salvaged as much as they could. The Bears gave the Raiders more than they could have expected because they were desperate to "win now".

Think about it, if the Bears go deep in the playoffs, Trubinsky (who is on a cheap rookie deal), will want a Wentz-like extension - he might demand one regardless. They are in "superbowl or bust" mode.

Agree that the Bears overpaid. I did not ever feel that they fleeced the Raiders. The Raiders got a hell of a lot in return

I think Anderson signed with the Lions.

But as far as I know, Jay Ajayi is still out there. I'd definitely kick the tires on him.

I don't know of any other free agent running backs out there that have a Super Bowl ring and three 200-yard games in a single season.

Ajayi is a bum.

They only know of the deals DeBartolo made to be the first to circumvent the cap, not all the deals he made.

One thing all of these owners share and understand, money is a weapon.

Ummm, by limiting how much owners can pay players? The owners want a cap. The players do not.
The rest of the owners wanted a cap to keep Jerry from being able to buy the best athletes and win Super Bowls like he did in the 90s. Those owners are to blame, not Jerry.

Revenue sharing and a salary caps go hand in hand. The players as a whole get 48.5% of all league revenue - not 48.5% of the profits, but 48.5% of the revenue.

When superstars want guaranteed money, that is taking food out of the mouths of role-players, not the owners.

You aren't making any sense.

In the 90s our teams were built primarily through the draft.

But hey, keep up the conspiracy theories.

The role players have a guaranteed minimum contact that, in many cases, does not affect the cap (i.e., your bottom of the roster guys). Please try again.

Don't you realize that Jerry Jones wanted this salary cap? He fought for it.

No person (other than a player representing himself) shall be permitted to conduct indi-
vidual contract negotiations on behalf of a player*

He's not representing himself is he? No.
"on behalf of a player" it doesn't say the player can't as the player calls all the shots and has final say. As no one here seems to be a contract NFLPA approved agent we will just have to wait.

Where's your proof? It makes no sense to say Jerry Jones fought for the salary cap since it has absolutely destroyed his chance to ever reach a Super Bowl again.
