1. It's their job to "find" stories and any story with Cowboys and a possible controversy is always going to get clicks and ratings
2. With Tony's concession speech-- the team is now Dak's and there is more pressure than ever on him. If he is perceived to "choke" down the stretch or wets the bed, the media is going to go into a feeding frenzy. Nothing like watching an 8-1 Dallas team implode. There are MANY in the media who would love to watch that story play out.
I love Dak, but the moment he struggles I think many will turn on him and want Tony back in there. In a way-- unless Dak wins the SB this year, some people will view this season as failure. IMO-- that's crazy, but such are the expectations and the media swirl around this team.
The "speech" wasn't necessary,
Not for nothing Tony is not a MVP, award winning, playoff caliber, super bowl winning QB.
What was really the purpose?
I think it was for him more than anybody / anything else.
