Nice Try NFL Network

1. It's their job to "find" stories and any story with Cowboys and a possible controversy is always going to get clicks and ratings

2. With Tony's concession speech-- the team is now Dak's and there is more pressure than ever on him. If he is perceived to "choke" down the stretch or wets the bed, the media is going to go into a feeding frenzy. Nothing like watching an 8-1 Dallas team implode. There are MANY in the media who would love to watch that story play out.

I love Dak, but the moment he struggles I think many will turn on him and want Tony back in there. In a way-- unless Dak wins the SB this year, some people will view this season as failure. IMO-- that's crazy, but such are the expectations and the media swirl around this team.

The "speech" wasn't necessary,
Not for nothing Tony is not a MVP, award winning, playoff caliber, super bowl winning QB.

What was really the purpose?
I think it was for him more than anybody / anything else.

Any potential trouble was settled with Romo relinquishing his starting job. With him not being back next year it will further remove us from any QB controversy that could lead to a distraction.

This post stands out for its sheer stupidity. Even coming from you.

So arrogant, yet so touching in its defense of an aging, resigned-to-second-tier status QB.
So nice to know, Airious, that we have you here to make insulting judgments. Apparently it is now allowed here to insult at will.
As always, Best wishes
:)
(Now, now, don't give me that hangdog look!)

That is the hope.
Yet, just yesterday, Sir Jerry said Romo has 5 more years to compete for a Super Bowl.
Foolish wildcatter ruffian.

Highest rated game so far this season was Cowboys Steelers game. So you know the NFL is going to jump on the Cowboy bandwagon to drive the ratings up.

Maybe Romo hoped his speech would stand the test of time, Midlands lad, and eclipse the speeches of Gerhig, Rockne, Lombardi, Qunnell, Brooks et al.
I am sure it will.

It's all about Jerry trying to entice someone to trade for him.

Ratings are good when there's drama in Dallas. That's why these networks do this. It's understandable.

Well, that makes good sense, stout bloke. I had not thought in terms of trade bait.
Sir Jerry is a crafty poker player of refinement, despite being from Arkansas.
Sooey!

You can tell that they try to create drama by the way that they ask Dak questions about Romo. Hoping that he slips up and says something controversial.

That is not cricket, mate!

EVERY QB struggles at one point, even St. Romo has struggled.
Just one more reason to not have the faded diva Romo hanging around the sidelines.
It just puts unneeded pressure on Dak, and, at 8-1, the YOUNG MAN does not need superfluous pressure on him!

The media has it's own Cowboys agenda and narrative... They enjoy the "Dallas implosion" story more than the "Dallas success" story. As soon as Dak struggles-- the vultures will start circling and members of the press will be jumping off the Dak-hype train in droves. It won't matter if Romo is there or not.

I'm not saying it's right-- I'm just saying it is what it is.

Also-- are you English? Where do you live in the UK?

I disagree.

Tony was going to get blitzed by the media about being benched and the questions were never going to end-- so he did the smart thing and controlled the narrative and let everyone know that as hard as it has been for him-- he has accepted the situation and will support the team as the backup.

Straight up humble, unselfish, team-first, class act leadership from one of the all-time greats to ever don the star. Nothing but respect for Tony from me...

They're chomping at the bit.

It's inevitable that Dak will have a bad game. When he does, how he responds to the backlash and leads the team at that point will say a lot about who he is. I think he has demonstrated an amazing quality of leadership to this point-- so I am confident he will bounce back well, but when he stumbles, there will be a lot of people out there saying "I told you he sux!!!"

We already know who Dak is.

Exactly. "Controlled the narrative" is a great way to put it. You'd have to be naive to think the media wasn't loving this, "Dallas QB Controversy" evokes a Pavlovian response in the media. They were salivating at the thought of one comment that could be taken out of context. What did Tony do?

Shut. It. The. Bleep. Down.

That speech alone took the microscope from 1,000x to a little more than the 10x we're usually under. It was also a great thing to do for Dak, as a rookie, and being hounded by "Tony Romo" questions from the media, something he wasn't used to at all and was probably mildly uncomfortable if not irritating. Calmed the storm and told Dak he didn't have to look over his shoulder every week he was healthy. That's just a classy move on Tony's part.

Well said, bloke but I believe St. Romo's presence in Dallas gives the media more incentive to create drama. Without Romo, if Dak stuggles, it's just another QB going through a rough period.
For instance, combat chap, I can't name the struggling Cam Newton's backup. Thus, no controversy.
As for Provence, lets say I am Brit ... In spirit.
I live in Farmer's Branch until my ner' do well cousin returns home from his wanderings trying to woo his girl Friday, the mercurial Ms. Busty, back home. He is a ruffian and a lout, but he allows me to stay here in beautiful and bucolic Farmer's Branch rent fee. I shall soon flee town for Liverpool. Maybe.
Blessings, good combat chap!
