Even Brees wasn't that type QB at the start of his career, the Chargers drafted Eli then swapped Eli for Rivers, because they didn't believe Brees would turn out as good as he became. Brees was pretty average his first few years in the league. Probably a depressing "what if" for Chargers fans would have been...... what if they decided to let Brees develop and instead of drafting Eli and swapping Eli for Rivers, they could have drafted Larry Fitzgerald instead. That would have given them all in their primes Brees, Tomlinson, Gates and Fitzgerald! That offense could have re-written record books.

Should be noted that the Chargers actually offered a long term deal to Brees.

Not to mention Brees has a pretty bad shoulder injury, and there was legit concern he would never recover 100% from it.

What is the option if he gets his deal on the market?

First day of free agency, Bengals cut Andy Dalton, offer Dak 40 million a year. What is your move then? Cooper Rush and throw the Super Bowl window in the toilet? Do you think Demarcus knew you'd do that to the prime of his career before he signed? Will Amari be happy being a 700 yard/yr WR for the foreseeable future because the Jones's tried to get cheap with Dak and it backfired?

There are ALWAYS worse scenarios than the one currently presented.

Then the Cowboys could be happy they didn’t pay the same and laugh at the Bengals problems for doing so. I’d WAY rather ride with a back up for a year (or Dalton if he was let go) than commit 40 mil per year to Dak

is there anyone here that reallly thinks if Dak was a FREE AGENT that any team would pay him 30 million? You think the Dolphins would give Dak a 4 year deal worth 120 million with 70 million guaranteed????
No, but they would pay him 30 million a year LMAO

If Dak doesn't take the top 5 money, then play without Zeke for the first part of the season or however long he sits and the team struggles without him. Then Dak is going to seriously regret it. He won't get it here, or anywhere else for that matter. His best bet is to beg zeke to take his deal and hope the team flies sky high this season if he isnt going to take top 5 money.

I totally agree. If both he and Cooper were offer salaries that would pay them in the top 5 of their respective position than they would be stupid not to take it. Dak is definitely not a top 5 qb or top10 and if Jones offered you top 5 money, you have to take it because you might not get this opportunity again. His agent is giving him bad advice. I mean some of those qbs that are in the top 5 have something that Dak doesn’t have in that is a SB. If he is betting on himself that he will get one this year great (hope he does) than great but he can also fall flat on his face and not get this deal again. The same goes with Cooper. There at 4-5 WRs that are better than him. Take what is given to you. There is a point where you can be too greedy.

The point is Dallas can get him right now for way less, or get into an unnecessary bidding war later

The Chargers had already drafted/swapped Rivers before Brees suffered that injury. They didn't have faith that he would develop and wasn't until after they drafted Rivers, that Brees started to show some flashes. The Chargers offered a heavily incentivized contract, but the guarantee was basically back-up QB money and the knowledge that Rivers would still be on the team and likely the future franchise QB. Brees would have likely not had much chance to cash in on those incentives, especially coming back from injury and in effect a healthy #1 draft pick on the bench waiting for his shot.

Until we see numbers ...generous offers from Jerry could be millions below market value. I doubt the offers are top 5. Jerry has the smell of an ole car salesman. If the offers were really solid they’d have signed it already. No one knows the numbers.

Bingo. We are bidding against ourselves. Nobody is paying Dak top 5 money. Very few around the league view him as an elite QB with the kind of arm talent that merits that kind of investment.
Dak's a smart guy.
He has to realize that there are no teams out there that need and QB that would offer him a better situation than he has in Dallas.
Put him on a team without this oline, Zeke, and Copper? Good luck.

Even at 30 mil I’d feel the same...and they are never forced into a bidding war. If a team offers Dak more than you’re willing to pay, then walk away and think ‘that’s their problem’.

I happen to think, with the numbers being discussed anyway, that Dallas is really bidding against themselves

Dak has all the leverage too. He would be mad to take less than top 1 money.

That's crazy talk, the franchise tag only pays you an average of top 5 money and only gives you zero security.

I agree . Dak is lucky to get a top5 offer.
He is great, but not near the top 10 .
& amari is not top10 either .

It even seems stunning to make those offers .
Not top 5..
But was 7-1 once he got a WR
71% comp..13-3 td/int..plus 6 rush...led NFL in 4thq play and comebacks. .this is a crucial year for Dak...I'd almost wait till week 6-8 to evaluate him ..

Nick Foles commanded 22. And Dak is not much better if at all. Besides we have 3 years to find a replacement.

Well reid that is a silly question ! It is all speculation on something that cant even happen till 2020 or 2021.

you think you know the answer but you dont, you would not know until he was a FA then you would find out.

The thing is for all who say dak isnt worth 30 mil, there is no one else ! Mike white lol and rush ?? another lol.
Cowboys drafting a QB next season that is better than dak ? another LOL
last time when they drafted dak as a potential project guy, they wanted 3 other qb's all turned out to be duds,
so now you think suddenly they can draft a good one??:lmao2:
Then look at draft position, we picked at what 27 last draft, and unless we tank a season dallas picks at the bottom of each round.
some will say trade up , but that might not be possible, unless we gave a ton of picks and all for 1 guy who may be a dud ?
The Cowboys let Romo walk away, and did nothing to get a guy who could actually be as good or almost as good as dak, so now
they have to sign him or start over at QB.

comparing dak to other qb's is silly, compare all the other qb's to tom brady, and then tell me why cousins makes more than brady ?? huh come on now tell me.
