cajuncowboy said:LEt me ask you a question Mick. If you and I are equally qualified for the same position and we have the same senority or experience, what do you think should be the determining factor? Your skin color? Or your presentation of yourself during the interview process? Do you think the job should be given to you based on the fact that you are a Black man? Because I know that if it were given to me because I am a White man there would surley be cries of racism.
That is a serious question by the way. I really want to know.

What I'm finding unusual is that everyone thinks whites are doing so ****ing great these days. Frankly, I wish a black guy, or some damn body, would come and take my pain in the *** job! The good one I used to have is taken already..................TO ASIA.mickgreen58 said:Based on this question, you are assuming I am for Race-based favors, which I clearly am not.
Well the biggest issue with your example is that studies show minorities arent even getting the interviews.
Isnt it human nature for people to want to be around people that are like them? Want to hire people that look, talk, dress, like them.
For instance, I work for a Fortune 300 Company and all my bosses are white, all my bossess bosses are white and all their bosses are white. I ask you is this a coincidence or do all those guys deserve to be in their position and minorities are not qualified? There is a white female that is an Executive and the rest are all white males. I bet my company's makup is pretty much the rule, not the exception.
Heck my arse was probably hired because they knew they needed some color .
I think it is human nature for people to want to reward, promote, hire etc etc individuals that are like themselves, so sadly enough, though I will probably be eliminated from alot of jobs simply based on that.

Interesting question..................Why is it that a forum member here has an avatar of one of the biggest racist biggots around and nobody seems to care? A person who has made anti semetic remarks over and over again. A person who has made the comment after the L.A Riots that " there should be one day a year devoted to killing white people"!? Why is that? You see, were judged by what we say as much as what we do. If another member had an avatar of say David Duke I can assure you he would be called on it in an instant. Rightfully so I might add. Thing I dont understand is this poster has always been top shelf in her actions here. I dont get it? Interesting to say the least....
That was my assumption...marsbennett said:Queen Latifah....In like 1990.

Thankyou for clearing that up. As I said, Iv'e always thought of you as being one of the better posters in here. I can KINDA understand a little better now. Still, im sure you can see how someone could take offense. She has made some pretty anti semetic remarks in her past though. More of this is whats needed today, communication between people when there is a problem. Helps each side to see the others point. Without communication we are truly lost....WoodysGirl said:That was my assumption...
Quoting something from a time that was during an extremely intense time in America does not devalue her career in my eyes. I don't condone the comment, but I remember the time vividly and how I felt, so it doesn't lessen her contributions to me.
Comparing her to David Duke is really crazy, IMO. Since her history prior to that and since has never been to the level of ignorance and hatred that Duke proposed. It's always been Afrocentric, but on a positive level.
superpunk said:Mick, don't you find that as kind of a defeatist attitude? I work in a field that is dominated by white men.
superpunk said:She has spoken candidly with me about that attitude. If minorities continue to heaer those excuses, they will believe them. That is a problem more than any preconcieved notion of "the white man holding me down," IMO. In almost all positions in life, if you are qualified, and you are confident, and you exhibit the attitude necessary to advance, you will be the one given the opportunities. It has as much to do with the attitudes of minorites as it does with any sort of perceived racism.

burmafrd said:Latifah has made MANY anti-semetic remarks but no one makes anything of it because she is black. The same way Harry Belofonte can call Colin Powel a plantation slave and no one does anything about that. The so called black leadership consists of some of the biggest racists around.
mickgreen58 said:There people go again with name calling, being all judgemental and character assasination again.
Al Sharpton, Jessie Jackson and alot of other Black Leaders who have been despised have done alot of good in their life. They are flawed and have their own faults but just to make a statement like that to suggest that that is what those men are all about is very misleading and extremely wrong. Just go ask the Miners he spoke up for years back, speaking out against racial profiling, leading peacful demonstrations in the Middle East, the hostages helped freed, and helping 450 Students in New Orleans at Xavier University among other things.
