He is immature but he is talented..

He probably didnt like how he was getting 'punked' (coached) in the first episode and probably realized that the camera was going to be on him. So rather than be 'punked' on camera again, he blatantly ignored Coach Garrett.

This response is no different than any kid trying to look 'hard' in front of his crew.... He is simply trying to play to his boys on the camera..

But on a serious note.. he probably has a learning disability and maybe some psych issues.. I hope he isn't like D Underwood.

Whiten needs to mind his own business and do his job. let the coaches handle this kid.i never wanted to draft this guy or any TE this high. not with a 2nd round pick.so if you are going to blame anyone, blame Jerry and Wade for drafting this guy in the first place.

Who is "Whiten?"

I just am troubled from the lack of respect he showed John Garrett. That worries me. That type of thing can creep up on a team and eat it from the inside out.

I'm hoping that his teammates give him some tough love woodshed-style. Seriously, I watched Bennett disrespect the coach and I felt like yelling and cursing at him and I'm not even a member of the team! I bet some of the Boys see this episode and go upside Marty's head.

We can hope, anyway.

Cut Bennett. Talent or not, we don't need players like that. All of our criminals and troublemakers are at least responsive to coaching and play like they're truly happy to be blessed to play football for a living. Watching his blatant disrespect for our coaches who have done their damndest to make this training camp fun and lively (whether that's good or not) makes me sick.

:bomb: This thread sucks!

well that was fast.

But I will admit him laughing at john garret when he walked away after stressing how important the days practice was says alot and really is a troubling thing.

I really hope they didnt totally blow it by just sending fasano down the river.

Yea that rub me the wrong way too, it seems he doesn't get it. But more than John Garrett getting on him, it may not hit home until some of his teamates get on him. I'm not ready to give up on him yet but I would have rather keep Fasano instead of just giving him away.

I went to Texas A&M and I knew Martellus...

I expected this because he is coming from a system where he did whatever he wanted.

Coach Franchione was the worst coach ever. Ever.

Martellus was a 5-Star Recruit from a small city in Texas and was a god before he stepped foot on campus. Recruited as a two sport star (Football and Basketball) - he got alone on talent alone in football, but that did not fly with Coach Billy Gillispie. Gillispie pushed him, benched him, and he got very few minutes - two practices at once were tough, school was hard, and he decided to pursue the NFL

I was one of the few who said he is not ready to be an NFL Starter before the draft just based on the fact that he needed someone to kick his *** in practice. Someone to push him because he's never really been pushed before.

He's gotten by on talent alone and that doesn't fly in the NFL.

Remember that he's still a kid. He's still a project in the sense that he needs to show that he will respond to constant criticism 24/7 and show a will to improve. If he does this, which I think he will start to by Year 2, then he will be a special player. If he doesn't, he'll be one in a line of many NFL busts with tons of lost potential.

He is worth a 2nd round pick - because had he had that "kick in the ***" in college, he would have been a early-to-mid 1st round pick.

Enough with this, Cut him nonsense.

Give him time.

Good response, I really hope you are right.

I think the problem has been known since the second he was drafted.

How do you fix a problem with a player who either cannot or will not retain what he is taught nor appears that bothered that fact?

Threaten him? What can be done to catch his attention? It is clear that harsh language does not work. He has already stated he feels like a beaten mule.

That's why I believe Rookies should not get paid what they do. I don't know anything about his contract, but one way of fixing his problem and that goes for any other player with issues is to sign them to a contract build around incentives.

I'm serious dudes!
I dated a girl who was native to Indonesia and she told once that she hated it when I used the word "dude." When I asked her why, she said the word "dude" in her native language meant...

Poop.

[/seriousness-ism]

So now that I've planted the seed, every time you say "dude" to your buddies, your going to automatically think of poop.

Sorry 'bout that dude.

If Bennett is actually a 20 year old rookie, then we have a guy who's likely needing time to get used to being a pro football player. We only have the benefit of a few minutes of film form Hard Knocks, but some folks have already written him off. He sees a camera, he smiles for the camera. We don't know how intelligent he is or what brings out the best in this guy. We did hear that scouting staff believe that they need to stay on him. I beleive it was something to the effect that thay need to keep their foot on his throat. I'm not prepared to write him off for a few minutes of film, but I'm hoping to see him perform to the best of his ability. He was singled out for some positive play yesterday. Let's remember that he's a work in progress. Not all players get it in the first two weeks of camp. Patience, Grasshoppers.

Having done sports television work before, I can tell you, if you get enough tape on someone, you can make them look anyway you want.
HBO has an entertainment agenda, they can't make all the players look like wonderful choir boy success stories because then nobody but fans like us would like the show. I'm not defending the guy, but this is something to consider.

The vets need to take this guy behind the woodshed. If he comes out without quitting the team - which I am not sure he would, then they will make a pro out of him.

I don't see him learning without a very hard lesson. He just does not get it yet - someone needs to "show" it to him.

This guy is the antithesis of mentally tough!

If I were the coaches I would tell the vets on Defense to give him the business all day long! You want to play in this league boy, then you better get your act together!
