He was brought in to help juice the pass rush and ended up leading our team in sacks. What else was he suppposed to do?

The rest of a defensive end's job. The failure that got him benched last season. Did you forget about that?

I mean can you really be surprised though?

It shouldn't shock anyone when your top free agent signings over the past few years have been Mayowa, Thornton, Carroll and Paea that you are left with little help from your FA strategy.
Nope.

You get what you pay for. In the NFL, there really is no diamond in the rough where Dallas keeps digging. These guys are JAGS.

His production has already corrected you. He led the team in sacks there is no way you can twist that fact away.

I'm not the guy "twisting" anything, that would be you trying to defend mediocrity.

6 sacks for the season and you want to blow your horn - and his - about it. You drop your limbo bar of expectations all you want.

I'm not.

Didn't think they would have the balls to do it this fast. Guess they finally realized the rookies can beat so why play him?

Doubt he cares to come out of retirement unless he gets paid. And, he isn't the Revis Island corner any more.
Gilligan's Island version of Revis is better than we have right now.

Everyone saw this one coming the moment he was signed. Gotta blame the GM and coaches that signed off on this. Mean while Claiborne looking like a pro-bowler and Carr intercepting passes.

Play better than he did. Play better than he is now. Not be a moron and get benched for missing assignments and constantly crashing down and giving up runs to your side of the field.

He was "THE" FA signing that year and he's been nothing short of an average player, nothing more than a back up DE.

That's not what I call a FA win. But sure in the context of Mayowa versus Carroll, it looks awesome.

There goes the famous Stash strawman he pulls out anytime he is losing. You said mayowa is a miss. I said he was signed and led the team in sacks. Now show me anywhere in that statement where I am tooting his horn or mine? You can't cause I didn't. I simply stated you can't call that a miss especially at the price we got him at. Feel free to create another strawman though.

Like I said, some fans will lower their expectations to the ground in order for them to be met.

I hope his roster spot goes to a 1T that actually can play the run..

We currently have enough secondary players, even with Awuzie hurt.

Look at a thumper at MLB and slide Smith/Hitchens to SLB. I'd prefer a 1T who can take 2 blockers like McClain did last year.

I know we won't get that production mid season but I can hope.

"Led the team in sacks" when the fact is that it was a mediocre 6 of them.Thats not praise worthy for Mayowa, it's a condemnation that 6 led the team.

How about addressing the fact tha he's was benched last year? Or do you want to continue to try to ignore that fact too?

Or the fact that he's got 0 sacks this year, isn't starting, and is now in a rotation with two other busts in Crawford and Charlton?

Sorry if facts are painful for you.

You just hear what you want to hear and can't deal with justifiable criticism. Don't expect the rest of us to play along.

You might be right on some players but, if they are indeed diamonds they want to be paid like diamonds. Dallas is no longer interested
in high dollar diamonds. You keep looking for mid-priced diamonds and you just might find one in the pile. You also get some cubic zirconias along the way too. Lots of these diamonds that get paid don't pan out like gold either.

LOL. Good metrics.

He was bad last year too. This franchise has had a weird obsession with him for two offseasons now. They brought him in after the 2015 season and tried to sign him then too. He smells like a Marinelli special - Rod fell in love with him for some bizarre reason and kept trying to bring him in.

They screwed up. It's OK to just admit that, at times, this organization makes really peculiar moves. Pretty much every franchise does.

I have no problems with criticizing bad moves made by the franchise. I've done it on numerous occasions and will continue to do so. Just like I criticized our unwillingness to sign a veteran MIKE that can start right away so we don't have to rely on Hitchens and Jaylon to play the spot.

The problem is, as another poster described, is people like yourself keep thinking about how badly Dez owned him a couple of years ago and keep that out of your head.

Carroll played well against the Giants, then got injured against the Broncos and hasn't played since. He isn't a costly cut, and Lewis has shown he's ready to start in this league and Awuzie shows promise as well. He's been out for over 3 weeks with a concussion and will turn 31 years old, soon. No sense in keeping him.

And Carroll isn't an issue with the defense's woes. Blame that on Crawford, M. Collins (who everybody lauded 2 weeks ago when I wasn't), Jaylon and Heath.

Free agency is definitely the reason this franchise can’t take a big step forward. I understand not signing big name tier 1 free agents, they are always over priced and rarely work out. BUT there is at least 1, probably 2, tiers of free agents between the big names guys and the junk we are signing.

Look at who the current NFC East leader brought in compared to our signings. Not hard to see why they are currently better than us. And they won’t be in “cap hell” either.
