Norm Hitzges tears Jason Garrett a new one

Lets be clear. As my posts imply, I don't care much for Garrett but he definitely is not failing so far. The schedule has been easy and I do think we could have done a little better, but the team is in a good spot to get into the playoffs which would be a successful season if we can make it.

not only has the schedule been easy but you have to consider the failures of the eagles/skins and all the plethora of injuries from the giants...also the lions losing Suh down the stretch and the Bears losing their qb/rb down the strech...a lot of things have lined up in our favor this season. if we don't make the playoffs under these favorable circumstances a lot of people will be looking within to place blame.

You have to admit this is a down year in the NFC East and we have stacked our wins against a few bad teams. Yes we could have beat some good teams at the same time but we blew it. Hence, the failing. He was in charge of the 2 biggest collapses in Cowboys history as well as one of the biggest plunders. Would you call that a success?

It sure beats being 5-7 and looking forward to next season

We may not be winning by double digits, other than the Bills game. But we have been close enough that a few kind bounces or calls are all that separate us from being a one loss (or one win) team. A team on the cusp.

Any way you see it you have to admit that with Garrett we win more than we lose. For such a young and inexperienced HC that in itself is a huge positive.

I like Garrett as a HC but admit I favor a separate OC. And that is not to slight Garrett. I may complain from time to time, but like the direction evidenced by so many little things that I consider myself a supporter willing to allow him the seasons needed for the seeds to germinate.

I do reserve the right to complain while the "process" unfolds. It is a right all fans have. If I chastise a child in front of our family, it doesn't mean I don't love him.

all the people that thinks Jason Garrett is not doing a good job has lost their minds.

He's doing alright. Not good, not bad. Alright.

This team should be 2-3 wins better than what they are this year easily. Patriots game should have been a W. Cardinals game should have been a W.

Both are on Garrett and his ridiculously terrible playcalling. This Giants game this week wouldn't matter other than battling for a first round bye with the Saints.

Yet, it does.

if you had told me before the season we would be 7-5 and in 1st place in the east this late in the season i would take it....

the thing is they have to close out the season and make the playoffs. we have to make the playoffs or else people will look back at all the missed opportunities throughout the season. if we make the playoffs all those fatal errors will be forgiven.

If we make the playoffs then the errors weren't fatal. :D

I don't think it's an issue of what needs to be forgiven or not, I'd rather lessons be learned from the mistakes than apologies be given out.

That's why I have no problem with Garrett refusing to apologize (at least publicly) for the mistakes he's made thus far, because ultimately, it's not about apologies. It's about learning.

If he weren't learning anything from these games, then we'd be in for a world of trouble.

well they were fatal for those specific games.

I like a lot of what Garrett has done. I think he deals with the team well, expects them to act professionally and give their best effort, and that all shows. I think from that standpoint he is doing a very good job.

However, he doesn't seem to understand how to manage game situations very well. He chose to be passive against NE and give them the ball back with time left when he knew Tom Brady was a serious threat to move the ball downfield and win the game. He bungled the end of the game Sunday by not calling a timeout when we got the first down even though we had a timeout to spare. 2 weeks ago he chose to waste a play so we were kicking on 4th down instead of following the conventional logic of kicking on 3rd down so the team would still have another down in case of a botched snap or hold. Clock management has been a question in several games.

Ouch! Finally got a chance to listen to this.

Pretty persuasive

Unfortunately, JG has exhibited a very limited ability to learn.

If we got through all that and yet we're still in first place in the division and 7-5 in his first year as a head coach with not much experience?

I can't imagine how you see that as failing.

Tony romo is a good QB

I call winning the NFC East, a winning record, and a united team a success.

Are you going to sit there in a haze of smoke and tell me that every year of Tom Landry's 20 consecutive winning seasons was virtually free from turmoil?

These things are revered by intelligent people, and you have always been intelligent anava. Take off the bitter blinders and look at what is being built. If you see failure, become a fan of checkers.

I was not aware that we already won the East, did the Giants forfeit or something?

Winning means in the process of, won means past tense. I didn't speak in past tense. I don't do that. This works with virtually all actions.

In other words if you say the holidays are screwing you over it is not the same as saying you've been screwed.

No charge for the English lesson.

Remember the Denver @ Chargers game. I saw the end of that game. San Diego was set up for a 49 yard field goal, and they ran the football with Tolbert and got a negative 4 yard play. The kicker missed from 53, and the game went to over time.

People can debate on whether Garrett should have run the football to get the kick closer or not, but I totally understand his thinking about the threat of a negative play in that situation. Plus, it was a tie game, and the kicker has been money.

They ran Murray 12 times to Jones' 6, so Murray probably would have been your runner. Perhaps, you get Murray's 3.2 YPC and make the kick a little easier. However, the threat of a penalty or a negative play was a threat to the FG distance. Again, the negative plays occurred in the game.

If Scandrick doesn't block that guy in the back, Bryant's punt return is going to make all this talk mute, anyway. That should have been the game. Then, Dallas is probably running the football for sure.

"Winning the East" will turn into "losing the East" if we lay another egg Sunday.

I'm just going to let the season play out. The Super Bowl is going through Green Bay, anyway. If you have to play them, it is probably going to be better to play them in the divisional round if you meet them.

Green Bay is not invincible; just ask the 2007 Patriots.

If being the key word. If wishes were horses beggars would ride.

If we win you have egg on your face.

If we don't make the playoffs though, will it be a part of the process of a colossal failure?
