Not gonna be popular... trade Roy and Julius for #2

Roy hasnt been offered about in any legit trade scenario.

insert hammer icon. You don't trade your franchise player on defense, even if he IS about to be supplanted in that role by the rare talent that is DeMarcus Ware. And noone has tried.

I just don't understand why you create two huge holes on your roster to *maybe* fill a position that doesn't really need to be overhauled.

While I find the trade amusing, I also find it amusing that people are so against trading Roy or Julius.

Where there is smoke there's fire IMO. Roy and Julius have both been mentioned in trade rumors within the last year or so.

If you can improve your team, do it. The people that are against trading Roy would have been the same ones that said "OMG! Trade Herschel Walker?!"

Roy has some pretty serious limitations in his game. Now he isn't as bad as some like to make him out to be, but he definitely isn't as good as some like to make him out to be. Losing Roy Williams wouldn't be nearly as devastating to the team as someone like Ware.
Roy hasn't been mentioned at all any legit trade scenario. The one pulled from the Ranch last year doesn't count. I look at it like this. It would take losing Roy to determine how much of a loss it would be not to have him on this team. Until then, I don't know how anyone can definitively say, "it wouldn't be a big deal to trade him" or on the flip side, "the team would go down the tube."

Roy is just getting to that point where he, T-New, and Henry form a pretty solid group of vets in the secondary. The secondary is extremely young and talent-limited behind them. I wouldn't want to trade him and then start the season with a rookie, Keith Davis, 2nd year man Pat Wakins, and some scrub vet.

However, there's a ton of smoke regarding Julius, so I don't discount that. I like Julius and I hope we see more from him next year. If not, then I see the need to draft another running back. Not until then.

I would package Julius Jones and Roy Williams and come away with the number 2 pick

"I will always be a dallas cowboy" Roy Williams
We wll never trade him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you hear me NEVER!!!!!!!!

IMO, everyone on this team is tradable except Ware, and even then I would listen to offers. (okay, maybe not) I love Roy Williams, I wanted the boys to draft him, and I have posters of him in my house.

If someone wanted to give me a high first round pick for him I would do it in a heart beat. Last season was crazy, thread after thread talking about how we need to replace Williams, he can't cover a babys butt with a towel. I am for keeping RW, but like I said, if someone's stupid enough to give me a high first, then "let it be done". :)

:lmao2:

If we can get as many picks for Roy as we did Hershal then sure trade him in a heart beat!!! Comparing trading Hershal Walker for that many picks and trading roy and another player for one pick is apples and oranges my friend.

Roy > Landry

That is a joke. Granted, we dont know exactly what Laron will be...but Roy Williams is a bad football player. At least he has been for 2 straight years and his "Pro Bowl" invitations were laughable. Just watch the games. His coverage and the angles he takes when tracking down passes is well documented, but what i noticed happening last yr alot was him taking bad angles and missing tackles. I mean, thats all he can do is provide run support, and when he wasnt/isnt able to do that, well then there is a problem. I even wondered about his eye sight/depth perception b/c it was so bad.

This thing obviously wouldnt happen, but if there were 2 of our "Marquee" players that I wouldnt mind losing...its those 2.

I don't know, I've liked McBriar ever since his first year here but if we were offered a first or second for a punter... I'd do it without a second thought.

But for my money, now that I know the lions want to trade that number 2 pick badly, I would package Julius Jones and Roy Williams and come away with the number 2 pick, thus having the number 2 and the number 22 in the first round..............

Then using the number 2 I would trade back for more picks to where I was sure I could comfortably get Laron Landry to replace RW, eliminating my safety problems..........

Then utilize what extra picks I had gotten to do what was necessary to also bag Lynch or one of the other top backs like Bush to replace JJ, then laugh all the way to the Super Bowl, having upgraded my team by leaps and bounds and still not having given away my draft this year to do it,........................

The Cowboys don't have a real need to move that far up in the draft... This rationalization doesn't make any sense to me...

I watched the games and Roy is not a bad football player. He is pretty good. He is not great and will never live up to some lofty expectations placed on him, but he is good.

I watch the play of lots of safeties in the NFL. They all have weaknesses. The best is Ed Reed and then probably Dawkins and then there are several a cut below and that group includes Roy. Reed is listed as a SS, but he plays more of a FS roll. Dawkins is listed as a FS, but he plays more of a hybrid FS/SS. Sean Taylor also plays a hybrid type role, but not near as good as Dawkins. Roy is better than Sean.

Landry may do well, but I would not rush to say he will be better than Roy. Landry may be what Dallas needs in addition to Roy.

For all of Roy's so called faults, his name was the least called for problems on last year's defense.

I understand the cap hit, and I also understand Roy couldnt cover a grey hound bus with a flat tire, but he is an impact player on defense that could by trading him away get you a Hall of Famer to take his place.............

I think your post makes a great deal of sense in that Roy is not a bad player, per say. He's a good player but he's not a good player for us in what we have tried to run the last few seasons. IMO, we try to play Roy in a Cover2 scheme way to much. That is not and will never be, IMO, a good fit for him. The problem to me is that we don't seem to be willing to move away from that. We simply keep doing it year after year. For that reason, I don't believe Roy is ever going to be a real good fit for us. We will always end up having to cover him with other players rather then having an impact player in our secondary playing to his capabilities. It's maddening to me. Imagine drafting Dan Marino and asking him to run Herm Edwards offense. One of the things I really hope changes is that we stop playing so much cover2 and allow RLW to be effective for us. Honestly, I don't know that this will happen because I believe that Phillips plays a lot of Cover2 as well. I guess we'll see but I, for one, agree with thor in that we will never get the value we should be getting out of Roy if we don't change the way we play him. Might as well trade him and draft a different kind of Safety. One that can fit into the Hybrid mold needed to play Cover2. JMO of course.
