Can we see how Wade uses Roy first? He'll never be a good cover guy but i want to see him out of that conservative D Bill ran and let him attack more like he did in college. He had 4.5 sacks under Bill. I'll bet anyone on here he gets all of that next year alone.

Of course not. Why would a complete philosphy change help a player as terrible as Roy.

I think your post makes a great deal of sense in that Roy is not a bad player, per say. He's a good player but he's not a good player for us in what we have tried to run the last few seasons. IMO, we try to play Roy in a Cover2 scheme way to much. That is not and will never be, IMO, a good fit for him. The problem to me is that we don't seem to be willing to move away from that. We simply keep doing it year after year. For that reason, I don't believe Roy is ever going to be a real good fit for us. We will always end up having to cover him with other players rather then having an impact player in our secondary playing to his capabilities. It's maddening to me. Imagine drafting Dan Marino and asking him to run Herm Edwards offense. One of the things I really hope changes is that we stop playing so much cover2 and allow RLW to be effective for us. Honestly, I don't know that this will happen because I believe that Phillips plays a lot of Cover2 as well. I guess we'll see but I, for one, agree with thor in that we will never get the value we should be getting out of Roy if we don't change the way we play him. Might as well trade him and draft a different kind of Safety. One that can fit into the Hybrid mold needed to play Cover2. JMO of course.

I think i remember Wade saying we won't be playing a cover 2 . I know he made mention of not using it and mentioning Roy.

per Mosley's article on ESPN...

Phillips also talked about how he planned to utilize Pro Bowl safety Roy Williams, saying that he wouldn't use the Tampa 2 coverage that he's used some in the past because it exposes Williams' weaknesses.

"You have to get him to attack the line of scrimmage," said Phillips, who pointed to how he used Steve Atwater and Dennis Smith in Denver. "We'll blitz him from the outside and blitz him some up the middle. You'll see a lot more zone blitzes."

I really hope this is true. I never liked taking RLW at 8 because I just didn't see us being able to do with him what I knew we would need to in order for him to be the player he could become. Having said that, it's not too late and I would be the first to slaughter cattle at the alter of one RLW in homage.

For all of Roy's so called faults, his name was the least called for problems on last year's defense.

WHAT!?!???!!???!

see I can do it about your post and not give any thoughtfull comment too.

The point of the Huh, genius, was that some comments are so, forgive me, dumb....that they dont require a "thoughtful comment". Roy Williams was one of the MAIN NAMES that was called week after week as someone who wasnt getting the job done. Anyone who remotely paid attention to our season last year knows that. Therefore, that comment that i responded "HUH????!!!!!!" to, was so dumb, that it was worth a thoughtful comment. (and thoughtful only has one L)

Then using the number 2 I would trade back for more picks to where I was sure I could comfortably get Laron Landry to replace RW, eliminating my safety problems..........

Maybe I missed it in pages 2-5, but how does trading our only long-term starter at S and drafting ONE guy solve our safety problems. The hole is at FS!

Anybody can say "huh!?!?" in an attempt to make somebody's ideas or beliefs to look silly, but it takes a completely different type of person to give insightful reasons to why they disagree. Just saying "huh" like a jackarse is pretty childish. Next time when you're going to disagree with somebody give a reason to why instead of acting like a jerk. Deal?

Roy hasnt been offered about in any legit trade scenario...and please dont cite us stuff from Philpott's garbage

and I am 99.9% sure we didnt try to trade JuJo...we may have listened to a phone call, but it wasnt like WE were trying to trade him...it was another team inquiring, if that

David

:laugh2:

What makes you "99.9%" sure? You're statement here is just as much speculation as any one else.

I've read way to many things to make me think the team seriously considered moving Jones and drafting Maroney last year.

insert hammer icon. You don't trade your franchise player on defense, even if he IS about to be supplanted in that role by the rare talent that is DeMarcus Ware. And noone has tried.

He's already been supplanted.

I honestly think this team would have struggled more losing someone like Ferguson than losing RW last year.

no joke.....

Julies had a 1000 yard season and it was his first full season in the league. Roy has 4 pro-bowls, why get rid of them? I'm fully prepared to have them on the team next year.

Yes... these two guys are arguably cornerstones(respectively) on offense and defense... you dont trade that away for a high 1st round pick.... how many go BUST?

Roy hasn't been mentioned at all any legit trade scenario. The one pulled from the Ranch last year doesn't count. I look at it like this. It would take losing Roy to determine how much of a loss it would be not to have him on this team. Until then, I don't know how anyone can definitively say, "it wouldn't be a big deal to trade him" or on the flip side, "the team would go down the tube."

Roy is just getting to that point where he, T-New, and Henry form a pretty solid group of vets in the secondary. The secondary is extremely young and talent-limited behind them. I wouldn't want to trade him and then start the season with a rookie, Keith Davis, 2nd year man Pat Wakins, and some scrub vet.

However, there's a ton of smoke regarding Julius, so I don't discount that. I like Julius and I hope we see more from him next year. If not, then I see the need to draft another running back. Not until then.

I agree for the most part. At least you have a rational assessment of the whole deal.

However, I still think it is wrong to absolutely state that he couldn't have been part of trade talks. What do we know about teams talking trade? Nothing. It certainly could happen.

Like I said before, if you don't listen, you don't trade Herschel Walker and you don't win three Super Bowls.

If we can get as many picks for Roy as we did Hershal then sure trade him in a heart beat!!! Comparing trading Hershal Walker for that many picks and trading roy and another player for one pick is apples and oranges my friend.

I'm just talking about trading Roy in general. These guys with the Roy fathead on their wall refuse to admit that Roy has had some struggles the last few years.

I had a guy tell me it would take four first round picks or the combination of Terrell Suggs, Todd Heap, Ed Reed and a first rounder for Roy. Honestly. C'mon, don't be dumb, I'd trade him straight up for Suggs and snicker on my way home from the deal.

But then you have a log jam at RB and no depth at SOLB.

C'mon, play along now. You move Jones for the right price, draft Maroney and have an extra pick to grab a SOLB later on.
