I am pro Romo, I practically love the dude, but man, he stunk it up tonight.
Let's just hope it was an off day for him and not the new post surgey Romo, because if not we are doomed and by doomed I mean this is a 3 win team at the most (I thought we could win around 8 or so). I would never cheer for a loss but maybe, just maybe that's exactly what this franshise needs in order to start from scratch. ( New HC, QB, and more talent on D)

I haven't read all of the comments yet, but Romo had excellent protection MOST of the game and he blew it. He had the yips when he had plenty of time and when he needed to get rid of the ball, he held onto it too long. They showed a closeup of him grimacing so yeah I'm worried about him. I hope this was just a bad game. I like having some hope before each game, but if Romo is going to continue like this, there is no hope.

He reminded me of Eli just chucking it up to random spots on the field for receivers to go get.

Perspective.

Romo's rating today was 60.8.

Sub-70 ratings, career
Brees 39
PManning 35
Brady 30
Romo 17

The question is, Is this an aborration, or is this going to be the norm for 2014? Stay tuned.

Manning, Brady, and Brees have what, 4+ years more playing time than Romo?

Agree on all points.

What was up with throwing it into double, triple coverage. Is that his back too?

Ha ha. You crack me up sometimes. It is certainly concerning that he disregarded the defenders and tried to force several balls. He looked scared and worried. There were wide open receivers, but he threw it into double and triple coverage. It's a head scratcher because he was just awful out there. I so need him to rebound next week.

You know how I am about Romo but he was bad and if I tried to say anything else I'd be lying and he would probably tell you the exact same thing.

A few observations--

He was hesitant in the pocket and wasn't seeing the field and when he did throw it downfield it was into a lot of coverage. Maybe I'm not giving the Niners scheme enough credit but you just expected him to find guys because he always does but not today.

He had no arm strength on long balls, no zip on medium throws no touch on short balls. He was just kind of throwing it up and hoping a lot. On some short balls he floated it. I know his numbers weren't bad but a lot was run after catch.

He looked tentative physically, He just kind of shuffled, not that quick pivot-jab-spin step he usually has. I bet he will be sore as hell tomorrow and might not practice on Tuesday since they moved it to the off day.

I think this was his pre-season game. You just can't come in and expect to be sharp with no offseason. True for a lot of players on the team but especially his position.

Overall I think he will be fine even though I know there will be a big over-reaction. He needs to play himself and his arm into game shape and I'm not even sure it will be next week or maybe not even this month, but when he does, combined with the running game we showed we will be a very good offensive team as the season moves on. The problem is can we hang on until we get there.

I'm not so sure.

What concerns me the most is that Romo has been missing his short/intermediate routes by sailing the ball high. I think this could be a sign that he can't torque his back like he needs to in order to get his normal accuracy.

defense and offensive line were bright spots. romo lost the game, because san francisco didn't even look all that great.

Really, it was all set up for Romo to succeed tonight:
  1. Home opener
  2. Much improved OL
  3. WR/TE/RB receiving options galore
  4. Fantastic running game by Murray tonight to take pressure off of the passing game
  5. San Fran missing their two best defenders in Bowman / Aldon Smith
  6. 49ers secondary missing a number of players due to injury
It's just hard to compute Romo's performance vs the opportunity other than to call it a 'Romo Stinker' game and move on.

Everyone knows I have disliked Romo for 6 years now but this is a fair assessment.

Garrett's passing philosophy seemed better for Romo than this new coordinator (his name escapes me)

GArrett's offense left more people in single coverage and more explosive plays down field. Romo made a living out of getting out of the pocket to buy extra time and nail guys down field. He can't do that anymore with consistency. He looks like he has concrete shoes on. His arm has never been strong, but now his arm is flat out weak. He won't take chances on the first read because he can't make the throw, so he pulls it back and waits for something easier. And if things break down, he can't swerve out of it like he used to so he tosses it up.

NO slants, and Dez was cramping all game long (per 105.3 Dallas Cowboys radio network, so he wasn't the same at going up.

Looks like stupid mistakes continue to beat this team, I don't see the upside to this season or Romo.

Has Romo ever thrown a ball away? One of the things that makes him so exciting is how he can turn broken plays into gold. At the same time it also leads to terrible interceptions because he is not smart enough to throw the ball away and move onto the next play. His interception in the end zone was one of the worse I have ever seen him throw.

That's what angers me the most. Our offense is suppose to be as potent as the top offenses. That's what got me excited for this season. Especially knowing that we needed to score points in order to cover up our defensive deficiencys. Our defense held up ok but they did exceed my expectations which isn't saying a whole lot but there were a few bright spots. Mainly our DL and LB play.
