They overpaid, lol.

Not if Cutler pans out. Teams kill for a franchise QB. He is also very young. Now, if he flops then yes they overpaid.

hrmm.. we gave up almost that much for galloway.... :banghead:

Which was a mistake. In this case however as difficult as it is to find quality QB's I think the trade will be good for the Bears.

Agreed. How often do you see probowl qb's at 25 years old on the open market?

Answer? Never.

Sure it was pricey, but the bears have a solid team. And now they have a real qb.

Its worth it imo.

There's no doubt about that. Think of it this way. In '03 the Bears had two first round picks. At 14 they picked up Michael Haynes and at 22 they picked up Rex Grossman. This year they have the 18th overall pick and next year you'd figure at worst that they'd have the 18th pick if not higher. So, would you give up Haynes, Grossman and Orton for Cutler? No doubt about it.

The Bears now have a Franchise QB with all the potential in the world. He's a top 10 QB. If I were a Bears fan, I'd be doing backflips.

I couldn't disagree more.

Who do you think would have been worth two first round picks? Montana? Rice? Emmitt? I can see a decent argument for some guys, but in the end I just think two first rounders is too much to ask. Cutler is not one of the handful of guys that comes close to being worth it.

Something to consider, if Cutler got traded for two first rounder then someone like Troy Aikman should have been worth three.

Maybe Troy or those other player you mentioned would be worth 3 but as hard as it is to find quality QB's this was a no brainer for Chicago. Hell teams spend years going through QB's hoping to find one spending top picks and hoping. In Cutler you have a young QB who is still in the early stages of his career.

The "Not worth 2 first round picks" argument falls short for me as it depends on which two firsts

Cutler > Barbie + Spears

For me it's worth it as there's no guarantee what your two 1sts might turn into, but in Cutler I think the Bears are guaranteed a franchise QB

Well even if you nailed the picks, assuming they didn't draft a QB, then I think you still have to take the Quarterback.

It's like Tony Romo.

You saw what Dallas did with all that talent and Bledsoe at the helm.

Insert Tony Romo and he rises this franchise from the grave and brought us back to life and got us back into the playoffs.

The QB is just so rediculously important in this league.

Thats why if I were Denver I would have fired McDaniels.

Im sure they will try to get Sanchez now and lucky for them he has a lot of tools to be a excellent QB. But as we all know that may never translate on the field.

it will definitely make the Bears contenders in the NFC this year but they defnitely overpaid.

At what point in Aikman's career are we talking about? When he was coming off of a SB win? Or just entering his fourth season? It's only fair to compare Aikman when he was entering his fourth season as well. At that point Aikman turned the corner in 1991 and was a pro bowl player entering his fourth year. Cutler is also a pro bowl player and oozes just as much potential as Aikman did. They would probably fetch, roughly, the same compensation.

Walker to Vikes? Bust.
Dickerson to Indy? Not worth it.
George to Atlanta? Bust.
Galloway to Dallas? Huge disappointment.

There are no guarantees.

I like Cutler a lot, I think there are very few guys in the league that can make the throws that he can make. He'll be the most talented QB in the division, but they'll need to get him a go-to receiver. They can't count on Hester.

Gonna be interesting to watch. Especially once Cutler gets a RB behind him with Forte.
