***Official Other teams roster cuts thread***

A vet gets cut at this point and it is because his team knows he won't make the 53 - they want to let the guy move on as they want to see other guys in the last preseason game.

A UDFA gets cut at this point and it means he isn't even good enough for consideration on the (now) 10 man practice squad. That isn't a guy who is going to make any sort of impact on our squad.

This is the truth. If they were still thinking of keeping him around for the practice squad, he would survive to the week of the 70 man roster and get that last shot in the 4th game to show he deserves to be on the 53 on the high end, and on the practice squad at the low end.

If he's in the first round of cuts, then they don't think he's ready to play at this level. However, perhaps the scheme and circumstances were just not the right fit.

Still, I wouldn't look to draft anyone from Texas until after Charlie Strong has put a stamp on the organization. So far, the reports out of Austin are pretty good. That defense is going to be gritty and tough.

I'm afraid that Jeffcoat is having to walk through this fallout right now...

Just because he couldn't stick on the best Defense in football doesn't mean he couldn't start on the worst defense in football..

How did they not see those losses coming? Simply investing in a high quality fortune teller would have helped us plan for that. Inexcusable.

o_O as if that big argument over Jerry ignoring an aging, injured, and shallow DL didn't happen on this board last year,,, lol.

Kinda surprised to see Martez get the ax so quickly.

Any know off the top of their head what that leaves us with as far as D lineman currently on the roster?

I'm thinking that a fullback being retained is stretching limits of credible even now. I'm still thinking four running backs, and a full crew at receiver.

Like Copeland ever got a shot.....I think he got like 4 plays in 3 games. Wish they would have given him some more playing time....But it's starting to look like the FB is being phased out under Linehan. And I think that is a mistake.

Agreed. I think Murray and the running game overall benefit by having a fullback.

But I'm willing to wait and see if they still hold onto Clutts or sign someone cut from another team before I judge.

Copeland was never in shape.
Even his biggest fan, LSU supporter Broaddus has admitted that.

They should keep Clutts again and perhaps Copeland makes his way to the PS.
He has pop and appeal but needs to get in shape and round out his game.

This.

I was excited as anyone when we got him, I calmed down a bit after watching more of his youtube clips. It was obvious he needed to lose weight. When Garrett told him to lose 20-25 lbs by training camp yet he came back looking the same, I had a feeling he was done. Maybe they got him 1st to try to sneak him on the PS.

I don't get why they cut Copeland now instead of letting him get reps come Thursday vs Denver....unless they think they already know what they have and are trying to sneak him onto the practice squad. That kid busted balls @ LSU.

Because he got owned in practice. Couldn't move a blade of grass out of the way.

I just want to see Matt Johnson's name...that is all I ask.

Can't. That would require an injury settlement. They'll wait until he's cleared to play.

(He's actually eligible for the practice squad. LOL, people will freak out if they do that.)

Good post.

His primary skill set is not what is needed in a fullback at least right now. But he could be a versatile practice player.
