3rd place in division and 6th seed so far in conference- but Mega confidence.
To my Eye, Spurs just don't look right after last game I saw. But we will wait for the rodeo before we really watch them seriously.

Barry 36
Bowen 36 aging defenders are at risk
Finley 35 his drop off is real
Horry 38 this dude is still in the NBA?
Vaughn 33
With Duncan pushing 32 the core here is really old.
Biggems;1915265 said:Barry will retire after this year, especially if we win the title. I also see Horry and Vaughn retiring. I see Finley stepping away as well. That takes away 4 old players.
I see Ian Mahinmi and Tiago Splitter joining the team next year. Along with Bonner, that gives us 3 young players on our front line.
As far as the backcourt goes. I am not sure if we will keep Richardson, Williams (bring him back), Washington (bring him back), or DeMarr Johnson in 2008.
So, if the Spurs win the title this year, look for a brand new bench come next year, filled with younger and more athletic talent.

Mavs Man;1915243 said:I said all of these things last year, and what good did that do? The important thing is that their real core (Duncan, Ginobili, and Parker) are 32 or younger and in their prime. Parker is like 25 so he's got a good career ahead of him still. Their role players are obviously at the end of their careers, but they aren't asked to put in 30-40 minutes a night, either.
I think the same could be said of the Celtics, as far as age, but again the three guys who run that machine are still in their prime. But they really need to go all the way the next two years to justify trading away guys like Al Jefferson and Jeff Green, especially Jefferson who should be a perennial All-Star forward for the next 10 years.
The Mavs had a great window open in 2006 but squandered two years losing to the Heat and Warriors. Now Dirk is pushing 30, Terry is 30, Stackhouse is 32 or 33, Josh Howard is in his late 20s, Dampier is over 30. I say they have this year and next year for sure, with their only young gun being Devin Harris. It'd be nice if he developed into a Tony Parker-type, but that's probably unrealistic at this point. If he can cut down his turnovers and increase his passing skills a bit I'd be happy with that.
With the stock of young players flowing in to teams like the Blazers (wow), the Sonics (Durant), Lakers (emerging Andrew Bynum), LaBron hitting the prime years of 26, 27, 28, the Heat and Wade getting an injection of youth there this upcoming draft, etc in the next few years when those big guys start entering their prime, and the leaders of those teams above (Dirk, Duncan, Garnett) hit the wrong side of 30, along with Nash getting older in Phoenix - the guard will have changed.

MC KAos;1915286 said:duncan is the exact same age as garnett, so whats your point? plus the core is duncan parker and ginobili, duncan being the oldest in that group. Bowen is a freak of nature, its no accident he hasnt missed a game in like 450+ straight games. Vaughn still has another year or maybe two of being a decent backup pg while we develop a younger one. Horry is being fazed out by bonner and will probably retire after this year. Barry will retire after this year and Finley will take his spot in the bench and we will either draft, trade for or sign a younger wing player.
im prettty happy with the way mahinmi is playing in the D league and splitter will be a solid center for us. we will be ok in the frontcourt, i just hope we can get a good wing player to take over the starting spot for finley. Maybe we can revisit the maggette trade!

Much more active, In shape and energetic.
Duncan looked lethargic, muscle's undefinded and slow last game. Just an observation.

And Duncan for a 31/32 year old last night didn't look defined or in shape. Very slugish and a great player but he didn't look right to me.

Biggems;1915324 said:Also, Nors, stop trying to spin it to make Garnett seem better. Duncan has all the accolades. He has the prestige. He has the awards. He has the Championships. He is the greatest power forward of all time. Garnett wishes he was Tim Duncan.
Biggems;1915323 said:Which means Garnett exhausts his energy needlessly throughout the regular season and has nothing left in the tank come playoff time. Duncan reserves his energy for when it matters most, the playoffs. BTW, Duncan has always played this way. He has never been a fiery, emotions on his sleeve kind of player. He is merely the silent assassin.

At some point Spurs need to start winning at more than a .500 clip. Its not preseason, we are right at mid point of season.
