I have to praps you Spurs fans -

3rd place in division and 6th seed so far in conference- but Mega confidence.

To my Eye, Spurs just don't look right after last game I saw. But we will wait for the rodeo before we really watch them seriously.

ya, but the standings in the west are crazy, i think like 6 or so teams are within 4 games of each other, and 4 of them were within .5 of a game yesterday.

i dont really care about the standings, i know all that crap will sort itself out by april and the teams that are hot right now wont be able to sustain it, like the lakers and blazers, and the usual suspects, spurs suns and mavs, will have 3 of the top 4 seeds.

the spurs have been playing like crap to their standards and are still like 1 game out of first place, so its not a big deal, and as countless teams have proved, the top seed and home court advantage is not really that important in the NBA come playoff time.

that loss to the Cavs was horrible. Our offense was pathetic. We missed so many layups and wide open 3s. We missed a lot of FTs. We had so many stupid turnovers. One thing about Cleveland is they have small quick guards who play the passing lanes well. We had a lot of careless ball handling and lazy passes, which allowed those Cleveland players to just take the ball from us.

Our defense played ok. It still isn't the Spurs defense we are used to. However, our defense would look so much better if our offense would simply convert on so many of the opportunities afforded them by the defense. So many times during a game, our defense will get like 3-4 stops in a row, only to have our offense do absolutely nothing with those opportunities. We either turn it back over, take poor shots, or get to the line and miss free throws.

The refs were not good either. They let Tony get mauled. On back to back layup attempts he was clearly slammed across the face and knocked to the ground, with no call. I am all for let them play and not calling all the sissy fouls, but a blow to head on a layup is not sissy. Also, it is no wonder Lebron is so clutch late in games. When he is allowed to lower his head, and use himself as a battering ram to knock over set defenders (Obert), and not get called for an offensive foul, then you know he has the league in his back pocket. It seems that ever since we beat the Pistons in the Finals a few years ago, we get very little homecourt love from the refs. Usually every team, especially the better teams, get homecourt love from the refs. That is how the NBA works. The best teams, the aggressive teams get mad love from the refs at home. The Superstars get mad love from the refs everywhere. However, for the last few years, we can't seem to by a critical call at home. I can see not getting calls on the road......but I am frustrated with the lack of home cookin.

I am glad that the Spurs don't whine as much as they used to though. In fact, ever since that rule, the entire league has cut down on it's whining. It was so pathetic when they would cry over every little incident. Duncan was one of the worst. Now he still complains, but nearly at the level he was 2 years ago. But one thing I do love about Duncan is that stare. If he feels the refs messed up, he will simply eyeball the ref into oblivion.....It is awesome.

What we need to do is get back to basics. Get our defense completely ironed out. Get our ball control back. Once we take care of these two things, our game will be back to its dominant state. So we are the 6th seed right now? No worries. The Houston Rockets won the Championship as a 6th seed.....went through us in the WCF to get there.

GO SPURS GO

I said all of these things last year, and what good did that do? The important thing is that their real core (Duncan, Ginobili, and Parker) are 32 or younger and in their prime. Parker is like 25 so he's got a good career ahead of him still. Their role players are obviously at the end of their careers, but they aren't asked to put in 30-40 minutes a night, either.

I think the same could be said of the Celtics, as far as age, but again the three guys who run that machine are still in their prime. But they really need to go all the way the next two years to justify trading away guys like Al Jefferson and Jeff Green, especially Jefferson who should be a perennial All-Star forward for the next 10 years.

The Mavs had a great window open in 2006 but squandered two years losing to the Heat and Warriors. Now Dirk is pushing 30, Terry is 30, Stackhouse is 32 or 33, Josh Howard is in his late 20s, Dampier is over 30. I say they have this year and next year for sure, with their only young gun being Devin Harris. It'd be nice if he developed into a Tony Parker-type, but that's probably unrealistic at this point. If he can cut down his turnovers and increase his passing skills a bit I'd be happy with that.

With the stock of young players flowing in to teams like the Blazers (wow), the Sonics (Durant), Lakers (emerging Andrew Bynum), LaBron hitting the prime years of 26, 27, 28, the Heat and Wade getting an injection of youth there this upcoming draft, etc in the next few years when those big guys start entering their prime, and the leaders of those teams above (Dirk, Duncan, Garnett) hit the wrong side of 30, along with Nash getting older in Phoenix - the guard will have changed.

Barry will retire after this year, especially if we win the title. I also see Horry and Vaughn retiring. I see Finley stepping away as well. That takes away 4 old players.

I see Ian Mahinmi and Tiago Splitter joining the team next year. Along with Bonner, that gives us 3 young players on our front line.

As far as the backcourt goes. I am not sure if we will keep Richardson, Williams (bring him back), Washington (bring him back), or DeMarr Johnson in 2008.

So, if the Spurs win the title this year, look for a brand new bench come next year, filled with younger and more athletic talent.

Your bench is so old and falling apart. Your are not getting 1 last championship at the new Celtics expense this go round. They can call you and raise.

And Duncan for a 31/32 year old last night didn't look defined or in shape. Very slugish and a great player but he didn't look right to me.

duncan is the exact same age as garnett, so whats your point? plus the core is duncan parker and ginobili, duncan being the oldest in that group. Bowen is a freak of nature, its no accident he hasnt missed a game in like 450+ straight games. Vaughn still has another year or maybe two of being a decent backup pg while we develop a younger one. Horry is being fazed out by bonner and will probably retire after this year. Barry will retire after this year and Finley will take his spot in the bench and we will either draft, trade for or sign a younger wing player.

im prettty happy with the way mahinmi is playing in the D league and splitter will be a solid center for us. we will be ok in the frontcourt, i just hope we can get a good wing player to take over the starting spot for finley. Maybe we can revisit the maggette trade!

I want fresh meat....Maggette is nearly 30 already. I want some players in their early 20s....who can learn from Parker, Manu, Bruce, and Udoka.

Garnett plays with far more fire and energy than Duncan.
Much more active, In shape and energetic.

Duncan looked lethargic, muscle's undefinded and slow last game. Just an observation.

Which means Garnett exhausts his energy needlessly throughout the regular season and has nothing left in the tank come playoff time. Duncan reserves his energy for when it matters most, the playoffs. BTW, Duncan has always played this way. He has never been a fiery, emotions on his sleeve kind of player. He is merely the silent assassin.

Also, Nors, stop trying to spin it to make Garnett seem better. Duncan has all the accolades. He has the prestige. He has the awards. He has the Championships. He is the greatest power forward of all time. Garnett wishes he was Tim Duncan.

2005:cut out celtics, insert suns
2007:cut our celtics, insert mavs

its the same story every year, you will know what mavs and suns fans now know in a couple of months after garnett chokes yet again in the playoffs

duncan doesnt need to scream and act like an ape to get himself into the game, he is very calculated and smart with pretty much anything he does out in the basketball court. Duncan has never been a physical freak of any sort, he is cerebral

i couldnt have said it better myself, no matter how many regular season games the celtics win, it wont matter come playoff time. what will matter is the fact that they are young and inexperienced aside from their big 3 and the fact that DOC RIVERS is still their head coach and wont know what to do to adjust come playoff time when the going gets tough. Your lucky the pistons coach is pretty incompetent as well. you better hope the magic dont drop down to the fourth seed, that would be a tough coaching matchup, van gundy is a good coach.

im not sure when it is but in a couple of years the spurs will have a substantial amount of money under the cap and it just so happens its the year when all those players from the 03 class become free agents (they signed 3 year extensions). It would be nice if we could make a push for a guy like melo or more specifically wade if miami is still in the crapper, he wont wanna stay there.

I just hope that when this wonderful ride duncan has take us on is over RC can keep the team competitive, but i wont worry about it till duncan turns 35 or 36

Man this loss sucks. I hate losing to the Rockets. We had our chances but blew it. We couldn't get a flippin rebound in the final seconds to save our lives and that was costly.

I am upset that Bonner was tripped on that last play and didn't get to go to the line, but still.....the Spurs blew several golden opportunities again.

What is the most frustrating thing, the Spurs are in every one of these games, and seem to find ways to lose these games in the closing minutes. If they executed just a fraction better in each game, they could easily have only 6-7 losses.

i wouldnt get too worried about it, think of the next couple of weeks as preseason, everyone is just now coming back from injuries and the team is just now getting their chemistry right again. The only thing that really concerns me about the last couple of games is how unclutch TPs free throw shooting is, he really needs to work on that one. Im not ready to throw Chip under the bus just yet because of how much better his jump shot has gotten, but he needs to get back to work with tony on his free throws and outside jumpers.

At some point you need to start to at least get concerned. Thats 5-5 last ten and only 17-10 in West.

At some point Spurs need to start winning at more than a .500 clip. Its not preseason, we are right at mid point of season.

I'm concerned with the offense. I am concerned that we aren't closing out all these games that we should be winning. However, it is only the middle of the season. As long as they are able to rectify this situation before the playoffs, that is all that matters. Better to struggle now, than in the postseason.....We are finally healthy and our continuity will come back soon.....no worries.

I think the biggest offensive problems stem from too much 1 on 1 play. Parker seems to be more of a ball hog lately. He runs down and throws up a shot instead of finding the open man. Also, the team is stagnant in the half court. They just stand at the 3pt line and wait for something to happen, instead of moving around, making some picks and so forth.....we need more motion in the offense, more ball movement. Once we start getting better ball movement, our offense will explode.

Our defense has played well, even during the losing streak........this losing is all on the offense.
