I had a LOT of issues with this past episode of Obi-Wan.

I thought that entire hangar sequence was one embarrassment after another. It felt like it was put together by people who have never filmed an action sequence before. Nothing made any sense.
I agree. They were just walking past everyone, unnoticed, with a huge bulge off the side of Obi-Wan's robe and then people running in random directions once the shooting started. And they had fighters right there, but never even went after them. TBH, it always bothers me that they all have this ridiculous tech, but no facial recognition, or tracking detectors, or anything to stop someone from just walking in, hiding from a few sentinels, etc.

It was quite simply, ‘too much’. I can suspend disbelief as well as the next fan, but this one pushes it way too far.

I don't get why they can't go a new route and create a new monster. They keep rehashing Predator and going nowhere. The last one was really stupid "let's make him bigger and able to communicate".

The second one pushed the boundaries of suspended reason but I felt they bounced back a little with Predators by taking it to a new location and that assortment of nasties was a lot of fun.

I don't know why but I loved Predators. I guess the idea of all the different human predators collected together to be hunted was a pretty cool idea.

And they added the really ugly Predator mutant to the mix, really liked that. A Predator of Predators.

I like Adrian Brody in movies like that and he surprised me in King Kong.

I think the introduction of Topher Grace's character to the mix was interesting because that kept us guessing what he was about. And I really liked it that Predators just started up, no groundwork laid, let's get to the point right off and get to killin',

Just finished Stranger Things season 4 Episodes 1-7. I was trying to think of something to say about it, something that really popped out to me about the show and the only thought that kept popping into my head was "Papa wears nice suits". Well, made, well fitting. For someone who worked for a large bank in NYC during the 1980s and 1990s having a nice set of suits was important.

I didn't hate the show but I was not bowled over by it either. By episode 7 I was pretty tired of the 3 separate storylines and the cliffhanger cutaways. It all seemed very contrived. Of course all fiction is contrived but when it is good, it doesn't feel contrived.

I really could have done without the Hopper storyline and the ridiculous Russian gulag silliness. Russian gulags were no joke. I think they also dragged out the El bit too. I mean, we all knew what had to happen eventually so why drag it out? I partially figured out Numero Uno pretty quickly, although that could just be another illusion. One of the ore troubling aspects of the show is how the little band of nerds, supposedly little genius kids, can be so stupid. Then again, Dustin is too annoying to be fun to watch. They should tone his character down a bit.

You get used to the 30 year olds playing high school seniors, but that is a detail the producers should have considered.

I'll give it a 5 out of 10. It is time to bury this concept for good after Part II. I really do not want to see actors with gray hair playing college kids in a couple of years.

I think I remember the description (as in what pops up when you hit the "info" button on the remote) calling it the final season. Maybe they changed their minds? It certainly feels like a finale coming.
Maybe I'm crazy (well crazier than usual) but I could have sworn season four was it.

People are already preoccupied with the ages and look of the "children" and they're doing another one?

They could have creatively done this better by either taking them at their ages or having them help out the next generation facing the upside down. They control the passage of time.

Lazy show running, if you ask me.

The Duffer Brothers: "Seven years ago, we planned out the complete story arc for Stranger Things. At the time, we predicted the story would last four to five seasons."
_______________

Essentially, the original plan was five seasons max. I wonder if they wanted to produce those five seasons in consecutive years? If so, hiring child actors with ages ranging from around 12 to 19 would have matched their characters' ages that best fit the story's hoped for timeframe.

That did not happen. Here is my opinion for how well actual actor and character ages matched using my new fancy dancy casting grade system:

Grade/Criteria
A - actor's age less than character's age
B - actor and character age fell within 12 months of each other
C - actor and character ages differed by 1 to 2 years
D - actor and character ages differed by 2 to 4 years
F - actor and character ages differed by 4 to 7 years
I - Was it really necessary to hire an actor 7 or more years older than the character?

Millie Bobby Brown, (Eleven/Jane Hopper) birthday February 19, 2004, selected August 20, 2015 at age 11 1/2 to play a 12 year old for Season 1 - Grade: A

Finn Wolfhard, (Mike Wheeler) birthday December 23, 2002, selected August 20, 2015 at age 12 1/2 to play a 12 year old for Season 1 - Grade: B

Gaten Matarazzo, (Dustin Henderson) birthday September 8, 2002, selected August 20, 2015 at age 13 to play a 12 year old for Season 1 - Grade: B

Caleb McLaughlin, (Lucas Sinclair) birthday October 13, 2001, selected August 20, 2015 at age 13 3/4 to play a 12 year old for Season 1 - Grade: C

Noah Schnapp, (Will Byers) birthday October 3, 2004, selected August 20, 2015 at age 10 3/4 to play a 12 year old for Season 1 - Grade: A

Sadie Sink, (Max Mayfield) birthday April 16, 2002, selected October 14, 2016 at age 14 1/2 to play a 13 year old for Season 2 - Grade: C

Natalia Dyer, (Nancy Wheeler) birthday January 13, 1995, selected August 20, 2015 at age 20 1/2 to play a 16 year old for Season 1 - Grade: F

Charlie Heaton, (Jonathan Byers) birthday February 6, 1994, selected August 20, 2015 at age 21 1/2 to play a 16 year old for Season 1 - Grade: F

Joe Keery, (Steve Harrington) birthday April 24, 1992, selected August 20, 2015 at age 23 1/4 to play a 17 year old for Season 1 - Grade: F

Maya Hawke, (Robin Buckley) birthday July 8, 1998, selected January 0, 1900 at age 19 1/2 to play a 17 year old for Season 3 - Grade: D

Priah Ferguson, (Erica Sinclair) birthday October 1, 2006, selected January 1, 2017 at age 10 1/4 to play a 9 year old for Season 2 - Grade: C

Eduardo Franco, (Argyle) birthday August 29, 1994, selected November 20, 2020 at age 26 to play a 17 year old for Season 4 - Grade: I

Joseph Quinn, (Eddie Munson) birthday May 15, 1993, selected November 20, 2020 at age 27 1/2 to play a 19 year old for Season 4 - Grade: I

Surprisingly, one of the best casting grades was given to the actor playing the central antagonist:

Jamie Campbell Bower, (Peter Ballard/Henry Creel/One/Vecna) birthday November 22, 1988, selected November 20, 2020 at age 32 to play a 36 year old for Season 4 - Grade: A

Even so, I am mostly okay with the overall cast's aging through the first five seasons. The seven "youngest characters roles" are manned by actors who still look their parts so far. They are the primary core of the series.

Maya Hawke was introduced in the third season. She still looks young enough to pass as a high school senior, albeit barely. Her other five actors comprising the secondary core roles are another matter.

Eduardo Franco (Argyle) looks solidly like a mid-twentysomething. Even Sean Penn in Fast Times at Ridgemont High looked younger. Love Joseph Quinn's (Eddie) acting with a young Robert Downey Jr. flair but he looks like a grown <expletive> man. Charlie Heaton (Jonathan)? Honestly, he is aging worse than Wil Wheaton and that is saying something.

Finally, Natalia Dyer (Nancy) and Joe Keery (Steve). Seriously. If there was a remake of Sleepless In Seattle RIGHT NOW and both actors replaced Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan, would anyone REALLY notice the change to thirtysomething roles???

Well, here's something I never thought I'd say:

I watched Star Trek: SNW, and thought, "What a stupid episode."

Then I watched Obi-Wan, and thought, "What a fantastic episode!" Great twist in the story, and the training scenes were very well done as well.

I’m still a few episodes behind on Star Trek.

As for the Kenobi episode:
I did like actually seeing Hayden Christensen’s face again.

But as for the thing with the Inquisitor? Hard pass for me on that. Are they trying to tell me a youngling who watched her friends and ‘family’ get slaughtered ends up working for the guy who did it?

All for one easily-foiled attack?

If that’s the case, I have even more reason to dislike the character and the acting.

Unless I missed something?
