Well then, it appears we need a new head coach then too because Garrett was all smiles and back slaps with Andy Reid after the game.

Hasn't anyone ever noticed how players from opposing teams always rush to meet and talk and share a laugh and hug each other after the game? It's commonplace. It's every game. Choice was no more pleasant to Vick than any number of players talking, laughing and hugging after the game.

I know we all like to think of these things like we do our high school cross town rivalries, but these are guys that play against each other every year, see wach other socially, attend the many of the same parties, work together with different charities, etc. it's a community of people that do the same thing for a living.

In many ways I wish it weren't that way - I can't imagine ever liking anyone from the 1970's Commanders, for example, but things are different now. Players know each other and interract and they have relationships beyond an annual hated rivalry. That's today's world.

You may be right Ernie. I didn't particularly like Garrett looking as if he were not disappointed or even pissed off after that loss.

I mean, I understand what you are saying. I'm just not convinced that Championship type teams look at things in this manner.

I remember the teams of the 70s and I can tell you that Vermeil and those Eagles hated us. I can tell you that during the 80s, they took pleasure in beating the crap out of us. They enjoyed ending our seasons and beating the crap out of us when we were down. In the 90s, they hated us still. They hated the fact that they were good but we were better. I remember them throwing batteries at us in the Vet. I remember them doing that when Irvin was injured. I remember them cheering for that. I remember them enjoying beating Aikman after that. I remember these last 10 years. The Eagles have no love for us and I, personally have no love for them. I hate that city and their fans.

For me, it's as simple as that.

Again, so what about the 15-20 players from either team that met on the field after the game to shake hands, hug each oher and exchange pleasantries? Happens after every game.

that is different. Alot of guys played together in college, went to the same high schools or played in high school together like ware and osi.

After a game lie that getting an autograph is different. You simply cant do that on the field.

by wednesday no one will care anymore but its wrong.

Think harvey martin got theismans autograph after he threw the wreath in the skins locker in 79?

its just not right.

Tashard Choice will take much heat for securing Michael Vick's autograph after the Dallas Cowboys' loss to the Eagles Sunday night.

On Monday morning, the running back apologized to fans with this post on Twitter:

``If its anybody that cares about winning and the d cowboys its me. I apologize to the people it was just an innocent jesture for my nephew.''

Are you kidding? This is the NFL, this is the Dallas Cowboys, this is the media !!

This will be old news before our next game, .. probably by Wed or Thurs.

Come on, this isn't gradeschool coaches lining up the players and having them walk single file to slap hands with the other team after the game. This is individual players seeking each ther out to talk and even embrace each other.

The players aren't even forced to interract by having to walk the same path to their lockerrom - they don't have to come anywhere near each other, yet they make the effort to seek each other out.
This is about learned behavior. Most of these guys do it because they've been doing it forever, but it's not requred of them now that they're in the NFL.

its entirely different for the coaches. Garrett and reid were on the field talking before the game, garrett is a classy individual and would have no reason not to go and shake andy reids hand.

if garrett asked bobby april for his autograph then you would have something but not when coaches or players shake hands.

So it's okay to not hate the opponent after the game under certain guidlines?

WHAT ABOUT THESE:

What if it's the opposing QB's sharing pleasantries?
What if it's 2 guys that met at a party in the offseason?
What if it's 2 guys that attended the same offseason charity event?
What if it's two guys that happen to share a common acquaintance?
What if it's two guys that were battling against each other the entire game and developed a mutual respect?
What if it's a young player wanting to meet an established star who plays the same position?
What if it's two Christians praying together?

What are the rules?

From an ESPN article:

On Monday morning, however, Choice seemed to regret making the request, which was shown on NBC's national broadcast.

"I don't want anybody to think I was disrespectful," Choice told ESPNDallas.com. "My teammates, coaches and Jerry [Jones] know where my heart is. I care about football. I meant no disrespect."

Wow!

I doubt Theisman thought Harvey Martin was worthy enough to seek out an invitation.

Be that as it may, Choicce probably grew up admiring Vick because Vick was in the NFL and playing for Atlanta when Choice was a teen in Georgia.

I think many players admire guys like Favre, Manning and "old-timers" who played the game when they were teens, and now they find themselves fortunate enough to share the field with them.

I don't think you lose that awe simply because they're on an opposing team anymore than many players who grew up Dallas fans stop being Cowboys fans just because they play on another team.

They're professionals. They know when to play hard against their favorite childhood team and when to shut it off.

I was actually more bothered by Garrett looking so chipper after the game than Choice, and now finding it was for his nephew or whatever, I'm even less bothered by what Choice did. I love my family and there are a lot of things I wouldn't normally do that i would do for them.

Absolutely, no guarantee, does that mean we shouldn't try?

WV Cowboy;3745021 said:
it is more complicated than that

Before we get rid of anybody, we have to make sure we can get someone better. We could do plenty worse than Choice.
We should look to improve the running back position and TC is the running back I want gone. That doesn't mean leaving ourselves with 2 backs though, that's not what I am advocating.

Agreed.

A while back, I had to interview the guy who wrote "Diary of a Wimpy Kid." My youngest son, who is mildly autistic, loves those books.

I generally don't ask for autographs because I have no use for them personally. It's not like people remember you or know you. I may do it occasionally, but it's really not a big deal for me.

But my son couldn't come to the interview with me. However, after the interview, I asked the guy (I can't even remember his name now) to sign a card I had in my pocket because I knew my son would enjoy it.

He did me one better. He gave me a copy of his book and signed a copy.

Was that appropriate for me to ask for his autograph? Maybe not. But I did it for my son because I knew he would enjoy it.

Do you want him gone because he asked for Vick's autograph or do you want him gone because you don't think he's a good back, can carry the load and we should let him walk because his contract is up?

Great story. My daughter used to enjoy those books when she was younger. I have done the same for family members. I felt silly doing it, but I got an autograph from tony Dorsett once for my son. We do this things for those we love.

Right, I think Choice is a good, solid, dependable NFL running back. I feel really good with him and Felix sharing time.

But we HAVE to improve the O-line before either back can show all he can do.

that post doesnt make any corelation to the autograph. Its the autograph that is the problem, on his home field in front of his home fans who just got their heart ripped out.

If he went over like many did and hugged vick no one would say anything, its the autograph and what that means that is the problem in that moment.

get the autograph in the lockeroom after or before the game. Not on the field after you just loss.

Between this and the Commanders gaffe I'm starting to think he's just not very bright, and that more than anything else has kept him off the field this year.

Choice hasn't done much the past two weeks other than prove he is better than a washed up Barber. I don't think he would be hard to upgrade at this point. If his contract is up he probably wants to get the hell out of here anyway.

Okay, so embracing, and haiving a warm conversation with an opponent after the game is more acceptible than getting an autograph for a family member that you love and care for.

If that's the standard, it's ridiculous.
