Okay so who will be Dallas' one BIG FA signing?

I think the only 'name' free agent we may sign would be Matt Stover and that is only if Buehler can't consistently hit FGs.

You are missing the words BIG NAME in front of the words FREE AGENT. I don't mind if we sign Free Agents to fill gaps. I don't want big name guys who think they are the difference.

Yes and No to a BIG NAME! Wasnt charles haley a big name, or wasnt herb adderly a big name?

I dont care who the player is, as long as he has played in a big nfc or afc championship game and got to the superbowl and won, or like brooking did even though he lost in the superbowl. But a player that wants to win before he retires and wants to be the best etc.

Again, it can be an OG, or OT, or punt/kickoff returner, but a player with class, heart, integrity, honor, values and wants to win no matter what. Hopefully that player can be on offense to ignite our players on offense like brooking ignited the players on defense and held them accountable. Another example of such a player but on defense is everson walls, who was a pretty good player i think you will agree with for the cowboys, he went to the giants his last few years and won a superbowl with the giants helping them on defense.

I'm not sure who...but I think we make one big name splash this year. Superbowl being in Dallas, I don't think Jerry can resist trying to find that final piece for a home Superbowl game.

I am going to post this on a Commanders forum. They eat this logic up. It gives them little fits of peeing their pants in glee.

its happy mediums surely? obviously you can't build a team around free agency but if a player is available in a position of need then why would you not take them just because they're a free agent?

I do not want BIG NAME free agents any more.

Last year we had people clamoring for Ray Lewis. We got Keith Brooking for a song in comparison to the money Ray wanted.

I don't mind adding Free Agents, but the big name guys never make a difference. Tell me who is the big name Free Agent that the Colts signed this off season? Who is the Saints version? Who did Pittsburgh sign last year? Who did the Cardinals sign last year? What about the Patriots the year before? Or the Giants?

Every year the Commanders sign the biggest Free Agent on the market or at least top 5. 4-12 in 2009. How is that practice looking?

Where did signing TO get us in the long run? He felt he was more important than the whole team. He was the missing piece.

I am not in favor of big name guys. It is just that simple.

Because Dallas has certain restrictions on who and how many players we can sign in free agency, we have an opportunity to sign one player with a .......

NO G Jahri Evans- Here's my pick. He's actually a very solid player. Having Kosier as the backup, swing guard isn't a bad situation at all. Having Evans would allow us to trade and release Colombo, keep Flozell for another year or two, move Free to RT and draft an OT in the 1st round to eventually replace Flozell. Even Free could move to LT eventually and if our 1st round OT doesn't pan out at LT, we can always move him to RT.

......

why on earth would i want us to trade or release colombo?

I did not say big NAME free agent once. I just said BIG free agent, which meant they would have a salary of $5.5 million or more and would make a solid impact on the team. The most impact we can make on this team is OL, S, WR, or K.

I'll stand on what I said above. Thank you for your clarification.

Because we need to get younger on the OL. If we go into the 2010 season with Flozell and Colombo as our OT's, we should expect another early exit from the playoffs.

I think we'll sign a veteran FG kicker, and I wouldn't be surprised if it's Stover either.

In terms of "big name" FAs, however, I doubt JJ will sign any this year. No J Peppers, etc.

I think JJ will sign 1-2 mid-price FAs (excluding FG kicker) this off-season. Like the Igor/Sensabaugh/Brooking signings, for example.

No problem, Hos. I still think we could make a nice FA move that won't cost us the entire bank, but can still make a big difference on the team. If a team tender's an OL that Dallas really feels can make a difference, there's nothing wrong with bringing him in for a workout like the Jets did with Austin last year.

To be honest, I dont think we're going to have a BIG free agent signing.

It's just my opinion, but I think those who believe we ARE going to get one are going to be disappointed.

We don't need one either. We need a solid draft, and we're going to be looking pretty good.

We get a draft like 08 again, and we're in strong contention for a Super Bowl for the next five years.

This was my first thought also.

I think Jerry signs a mid-level FA, this teams needs to draft well and try to get younger on the Oline.

i swear i'll never get why some people get hung up on #'s and so forth.

colombo is damn good and no reason to rush him out the door cause you wanna rush in someone who's biggest attribute so far is you get to "go shopping" for somone.

I'd love to get Gostkowski, but i don't see him leaving NE.
DeMeco Ryans would fit really well, but may cost too much.

Realistically, given the young players that we have (other than OL) and the roster spot challenges, I would say we'll have no major signings unless we have an unexpected loss or two.

:starspin I'm inclined to agree, I don't think we'll make a big splash in free agency this year. We may pick up a player or two from other teams once cuts begin, but I think we'll rely mainly on the draft this year.

Okay, you're missing my entire point. I want Free to be our RT next year, replacing COLOMBO. If this happens, we do not have to "go shopping" for anyone replacing Colombo.

And what "numbers" did I talk about? I just said our OL is old at the OT position and we have weaknesses handling pressure up the middle. Those aren't numbers, it's reality.

Yes, Colombo has been good for us these past couple of years, but do you KNOW he's going to be steady next year; coming off of those two injuries? How do you KNOW he won't be inconsistent next year, because he does have a history of injury problems. The Cowboys cannot bank on Colombo coming back, especially with his injury history, age, etc.

Flozell is still a good player, I think he has a few years left. It wasn't Doug Free who had problems with Jared Allen when Flo got hurt; it was Colombo getting abused almost every play by Ray Edwards.

Bottom line: LG and RT need to be upgraded this offseason.

Colombo played every game from 2007 on till his injury. He had one injury prior and needed 2 years to recover. he broke a bone which is not likely to happen again. So calling him injury prone is stupid. He is also only 31 and has several more good years left unlike the Hotel.

Picking up a FA esp at WR is a risky move. I'm not saying I'm against it totally. In fact the player that interests me is Brandon Marshall. Now I'm talking about high risk high reward here. Glad I wouldn't have to make that decision.

K, S, OL, WR are the areas for a larger salaried FA. I don't think Jerry has the balls to pick up a WR.
