I think Dallas needs to look Into drafting a qb this off season. Hooker from Tennessee would be my vote. Draft defense and get some free agents in here and let Hooker take over.

Well, if ya wanna stay status quo he's maxed out. Its a one and done ceiling. If ya wanna go draft pick its an un known surrounding Young, Stroud, Levi's or others as draft picks.

So you either take a risk with the draft or you keep pretending the current guy is better than he is.

Because I am pretty sure this front office has neither the balls or humility to ship out Prescott, get an affordable 2 year bridge QB for the draftee to mentor under and build a true foundation.

My above paragraph is a pipe dream I know but I figured I'd give my personal armchair GM opinion on what would be the best course of action.

Whats left of this season and the 2023 season then thats it.

It’s certainly not a given they’ll move on from after his contract is up but it’s possible if the inconsistencies continue. However, they’ll have to have a QB they feel good about before they’ll move on from him.

Anybody that blames Kellen Moore at this stage of the game is just looking to scapegoat anybody other than Dak.

His 3 TE packages and heavy set usage this year demonstrating this guy evolves as the seasons go by. Dude is 5-1 overall with Cooper Rush.
Is that what Air Coryell Jr is going say during HC interviews.......I'm 5-1 with Cooper Rush? Another team's front office should stop the interview immediately and say..... "Our Secretary will escort you out now."

First off, Jerry loves him, so he’s not going anywhere… There’s also that nasty no trade clause…But what if…

Impossible
Cut this offseason, pre June 1. 89m in dead money.

Not impossible,
Cut this offseason, post June 1. There is no point to do this as his P5 is guaranteed. Literally no reason to do this…

Possible but kills our 23 offseason.
Trade this offseason, pre June 1. A little cheaper than Outright cutting him as his guaranteed p5 would move with him. Still 58m in dead money.

Plausible
Trade this off-season, post June 1. This is the sweet spot. We would save 31m in cap space for 2023. We would still have 40 million in Dead money, but it would be spread over future years 2024 - 2026.

Trade - You ask why would anybody trade for him? The answer is that since we would eat his remaining signing bonus, the acquiring team would get him on a two year 65m non guaranteed contract. There is actually value in that… Still that no trade clause though.

So there you have it. The only realistic option for 2023 is a post June 1 trade, that Dak agrees to. I think we could get a first round pick for for him… Maybe something like the Carson Wentz deal between Philly and Indy - a 23 third rounder and conditional 24 first rounder. .
I think another year of ONE and DONE might get JJ's blood boiling to start making major changes to this organization and trading Prescot while he still has value to some other clubs. This team really came together when Rush took over for Prescot so JJ might be thinking that getting another QB through the draft or ????? might do the treat to get this club DEEP into the playoffs because Prescot isn't the guy. Jimmy Johnson said yesterday that Prescot nuts up when he has pressure and that's when the interceptions are flowing. He also said watch out for Philly, if they pressure him enough he will turn the ball over. Jimmy also commented on the last offensive play in OT against Jacksonville, he said if the Cowboys hadn't got so "cutesy" with the play calling the Boys would have won the game if they forced Jacksonville to use they're last timeout, but they didn't and lost!

Let's put it this way, if you play ANY qb that never gets you to the playoffs or gets you there and you're one and done, is there any difference between that and Dak? All Dak is doing for this team is giving us a low 1st round draft pick. But then again our owners (dumb & dumber) would screw a high pick up anyway. Going on 30 years guys . . . Think about that . . .
They haven't picked a qb ever after Troy they lucked i to Romo he was almost GONE they wanted to have Carter out there AND IF HE DIDNT GET CAUGHT W WEED romo would have been gone. Then gtg Dak he was a comp pick and they wanted cook, lynch and everyone else instead of him. They dont know how to pick a qb they just lucked into it.

I’m not so sure about that. We’ve had a very productive high scoring offense while he’s been here. That’s not to say there hasn’t been some issues with the playcalling because there has. Since Dak suffered that serious ankle injury two years ago he’s lost some of his confidence. The last time we saw him play consistent football was early last season.

Yeah they realized he was great against the blitz but had problems in disguised zones. Cover 2 and quarters. Thats why MM has him being aggressive and taking chances to throw people open. You dont get time to wait until your guys get open in the nfl. This is the only way unless you make him a busdriver. He is the middle of that transformation. This is all Mm.

Van Pelt
Gannon
Brooks
Hasselback
Rodgers

he made these guys what they are

Will Dak get where MM wants him to be? IDK he may sacrifice our playoffs this year trying to be.

I’m not saying we’re going to move on from Dak anytime soon, so let me be clear. I’ve been in Dak’s corner the entire way but if we don’t win at least a playoff game this season they could very well take a QB in the second or third round depending on what the QB crop is like. It may not be this April, but it could be in 2024. Dak has become up and down, so I wouldn’t be surprised in the least if the Joneses decide to take a QB at some point relatively high in the next couple of years in the event they decide to move on from Dak. Even I’m starting to see chinks in his game. He’s not the same QB he was early last season and he’s missed games the last three seasons with injuries.

I mean it would change many thread titles, be nice to see a diferent name in front of "Sucks" for a change. Because unless you can change the GM your QB will continue to "Suck"....

We're better off trimming the fat from the fanbase that just looks for negativity....

Look past any potential past the 3rd round, Dak is embedded contractually here for the next few seasons, so hoping for a decent draft pick spent for future development upon Daks departure at this point is futile at best.

You gotta think beyond a quick fix.

So what I would do is keep him another year if possible but I am definitely looking QB in the 1st or 2nd round in this coming draft.

Now there is no way Jerry and Stephen would even consider this because:
  1. They are loyal to a fault with guys, not moving on from some until far too late.
  2. They are loathe to admit mistakes and cutting or trading Dak would mean they made an error in giving him that big contract and they simply don't like to look bad.
Brother Sydia, they wouldn't trade Dak even if they could, and they cannot, so time to acknowledge the contract and obligation withstanding.
