Our RB situation

This draft had 2 top backs, about 6-7 really good backs, and a bunch of mid-round backs you'd find every year. I'd rather get DL in round 2 but I'm thinking those 6-7 really good backs will be gone if we wait until the end of the 3rd.

It needs to desperately get resolved today. I think the CB pick in round 1 was excellent. It translates to a huge middle finger up to that Claiborne guy. Excellent in every respect. I do wonder if we made any attempts to move up for Gurley or Gordon. Guess we'll know when it's all said & done.

Who would you go with out of those three if you were making the decision on the RB that will bolster our backfield this year?

I'm thinking RB in the 2nd, DL in the 3rd, and QB in the 4th.

What's the difference between starting Ryan Williams or, say, Tevin Coleman.

Williams was a 2nd round pick who has been slowed by injuries more than anything. Any guy we draft will be a bigger question mark than he is, and Williams has as much talent as a pure runner as any guy we'll get moving forward.

Williams hasn't seen the field in basically three years. I don't think it's reasonable to expect anything from him, talent or not. Randle is an affirmed moron. McFadden hasn't been semi-productive since 2011. He has largely been a 3.4 YPC guy as a pro. Lance Dunbar has had durability issues as well. RB is definitely a need.

I'm going to have to put you on ignore man. Anyone that thinks we should start our season with Mcfadden,Randle, and Williams, just won't have ANYTHING in common with me and it will just be a waste of time talking with you.

I think that if they draft a RB at #60, that one of the existing guys is more likely to be the starter in 2015. Coleman is about the only one that is truly good in pass pro. McFadden is terrific in pass pro and Randle became good at it in 2014. The coaches made pass pro William's #1, #2 and #3 priority in practice since he got here.

The draft pick should eventually evolve to be the starter but it's not a high probability this season. Look at Murray's stats and how they evolved over the years. He was not just an instant 1800 yard runner.

If the Cowboys are really doomed without a new RB, then they probably needed to trade up in the 1st to get one of the top 2.

ESPN article has Joseph Randle as the most likely starter if they don't add another back in the draft.
Of course this is just speculation by Todd Archer.

They need to go get Coleman. We have an amazing line and we are not going to take advantage of it by putting a solid runner back there? Doesn't make sense to me. I know all of our running backs here really well.. none of these guys are starters.

I think the 2014 version of McFadden would have gained 2000 yards at Indiana.

Actually, we dominated with our OL. Murray wasn't hit much until after he already gained some yards. And Murray left a lot of yards to be had with his lack of speed and moves. Murray was good but not irreplaceable.

I never said he wasn't replaceable but you can't just put some jag back there either. We have all jags right now. If they don't do something about that it is going to hurt us.

Murray averaged 5 yards a carry even before we had a dominant oline. This thought that it was all because of our oline was the sole reason Murray succeeded is nothing more than a fallacy.

And Joesph Randle can't pass protect either. I understand all the talk about Dallas' line allowing any reasonably talented back to succeed, but if McFadden gets hurt we're back to the 8-8 clubhouse. The Cowboys have to get a good all-around back tonight....I hope.
