The telecasts are loaded with hyperbole like.

'you just gotta love this guy.'
'its like larry csonka reincarnated'
'hes the toughness of this mountaineer team'

and blah blah blah.
Let's see, he wasn't recruited anywhere. He walked on at Wisconsin River Falls. From there he earned a scholarship at WVU. In 2 years there he broke 10 facemasks. He recorded 106 knockdown or pancake blocks in 2007 and had 17 blocks that led to a TD. He squats 675 pounds, cleans 480, and is the #1 FB on every draft report out there except 1.

Yeah, it's all hyperbole, no substance at all.

Is that 106 knockdowns in one season? What is that like 9 a game? Ridiculous.

I'm pretty sure he won't be there for our late pick in the 4th round at this point, and I don't think this particular staff will draft him with a 3rd.

Here's an interesting stat -- in 353 career rushing attempts, he was tackled for a loss four times.

Sorry Hostile. It's still hype by definition.

Your post in the context of the conversation didn't make sense.

Whatever. You lost the argument so you start babbling to deflect the issue.

Thats fine Hos but at the same time you have to admit the TV broadcasts were loaded with hype. and everything ive read is that the facemask thing is 'legend.'

We have had blocking fullbacks before. Remember Jamar Martin.

And the hype really gets out of control when a guy that hasnt ever caught more than 12 balls in a season all of a sudden is a passing threat and can be a TE. His in line blocking is questionable.

Hes a good blocking fullback in a league that really no longer uses them and we have a passing offense. But you say he comes in and instantly makes us better. Deep down you have to know that coming out of WVU that hes going to know very little and have had very little experience in pass protection. i dont see how hes going to make us 'better' when he wont start.

its like you think were going to get this guy and all of a sudden Garrett is going to transform into a playcaller that favors the run. it aint going to happen.

Yeah, that was one season. At best we'd have to take him by the 3rd. And I doubt he even makes it to that pick.

It's called short yardage situations and they are still critical in the NFL.

Did you by any chance read the reports of receiving skills from the Senior Bowl practices? No? Shocking.

He actually lined up a good bit at TE in college. And according to NFLDS he's a "Punishing in-line blocker who is alert to stunts and blitzes."

Right, because Barber is known for getting 100% of an offense's snaps.

Wrong answer. It should have been Who cares, College != NFL.

That seems to be a a real hard thing to understand with some people. Lots of people here on CZ are in full belief that SEC is equal to the NFL. I mean everytime you turn around the quote "He did that in the SEC" as if the most of the SEC were going to be drafted and be starters on their new teams tomorrow.

Fact is, most will never even see an NFL practice squad.

Wow, West Virginia is now in the SEC.

Credibility on this topic shot to hell in one remark.

Marion Barber is one of the best short yardage backs in the NFL. Hoyte is one of the more punishing FBs in lead blocking. Its called we dont need him for that.

And he had 'soft hands' at the senior bowl. Thats fine and dandy but WR come in and take a couple of years to develop timing witht he QB as well as precise route running etc.

But lets talk about pass protection because that is whats critical. What did the senior bowl practices have to say about his ability to recognize where blitzes are coming from and who to pick up in what situation in what blocking schemes becaseu that is the crux of the issue. Im sure that WVU put a premium on things like that with their 3:1 run-pass ratio.

I think he was referring to the prevailing view of McFadden against his idiotic view of McFadden.

Support of McFadden says that he dominated the SEC (a conference churning out NFL defenders) as the sole option on offense. Crazy people say that McFadden is garbage.
