It's a joke, all these Schmitt pimps who are trying to convince everyone how "versatile" he is. He's a lead blocker and nothing else. Who cares that he punted a few times? Who cares that he lined up at TE a couple times? They sure never threw it to him while he was out there.

He's a very good lead blocker with apparently some kind of magical mohawk that blinds and confuses people into thinking he's more.

I'd be interested in seeing even one scouting service that says he can't play some TE now and then. I admit, that one would intrigue me since all the others mention he plays that some.

Let's see, he wasn't recruited anywhere. He walked on at Wisconsin River Falls. From there he earned a scholarship at WVU. In 2 years there he broke 10 facemasks. He recorded 106 knockdown or pancake blocks in 2007 and had 17 blocks that led to a TD. He squats 675 pounds, cleans 480, and is the #1 FB on every draft report out there except 1.

I did read it, which is why I quoted it to begin with.

It is impressive. But it has absolutely zero to do with whether or not he will be a successful pro, nor does it say much to support the notion he is worth a high round choice when we have other needs unsatisfied. Nor does it come close to suggesting he would be a great value anywhere before the late second day.

But I still see, fourth round, even third which is absolutely ridiculous. He's not Mike Alstott. He's certainly not Lorenzo Neal, but I am sure he has broken more facemasks and recorded more pancake blocks per his WVU biography.

What is occurring is precisely what some have suggested.

Watch a few YouTube videos of him running in the open field and leaving players in his wake? Suddenly, he's got 4.5 speed. Read a few scouting reports that mention he can occasionally split out wide or play TE, he's suddenly more versatile.

Pretty soon his legend will grow to the fact he's seven feet tall, kills men by the hundreds, shoots fireballs from his eyes and bolts of lightning from his backside.
