T.O.'s Tweet blames Romo and Garrett for release

May 25, 2009 12:10 PM

Posted by ESPN.com's Matt Mosley

Due to recent imposters on Twitter, I've been reluctant to post any potential news that comes from that forum. But after doing some research this morning, it appears that Bills wide receiver Terrell Owens actually used his Twitter account to sound off on his release from the Cowboys.

Unless someone has hacked into T.O.'s Twitter account (listed on his official Web site), it looks like the real deal. Here's the initial Tweet that apparently prompted T.O.'s response:

"I am so glad for your reception in Buffalo. I was not happy the Cowboys cut you. LOVE your honesty!"

That was posted last Wednesday morning. Seems pretty harmless. Certainly not something that would get T.O.'s blood boiling and cause him to suddenly point the finger at Tony Romo and Jason Garrett. OK, so here's his response:

"neither ws i, blame the OC & romo!! but i'm happy 2 b where i am but i miss the other guys tht were & r true teammates!!"

Thanks to DCFanatic for tipping us off to this story.

Owens doesn't know what he is talking about. Jason Garrett said when he returned from almost taking the job in St. Louis that he would "never" give Jerry Jones any kind of ultimatum that it was him or Owens.

No player was consulted about Owens. That includes Tony Romo.

In other words neither Romo nor Garrett had anything to do with his release. Neither of the them was consulted. Are they part of the reason why he is gone?

Absolutely. Owens was openly critical of both towards the end of the year and it pissed off a man named Stephen Jones. Owens waiver is his own damned fault. He simply can't shut his festering gob.

Good riddance to all the trash that was thrown away this off season.

I'm not a TO loyalist, but I can say that I don't think any fan, no matter how diehard, can ever know what really goes on behind the scenes. We're limited to what we hear in the media to an extreme extent. Your comments are based off what Valley Ranch wants you to believe. I can't be so naive.

Atlant and Baltimore before last season. I'm sure, looking back at the season, they are glad Jason rejected them.

St. Louis didn't back down, their fans started calling the office, to the point they were going to burn the whole fort down. He never was in the running for Denver, and the fact that he lost out to Detroit, with such a pathetic cast shows that he really sucked.

Rejected by Detroit, with all that talent he had at Dallas.. Talk about the ultimate burn... Detroit didn't even want him...

this made me laugh....do you just keep repeating this stuff in your head till you believe it?

First it was the secret plays between Romo and Witten, now it's the secret personnel decisions made by the OC and QB? :lmao:

I just thought, too -- did anyone consider the fact that Brad Johnson may have been the snitch to Ed Werder and might be the QB Owens is talking about??

Hrmrmmrrmrmrmmmmmm........*camera pans out, showing my inquisitive look as I rest my chin upon my hand*

T.O.="neither ws i, blame the OC & romo!! but i'm happy 2 b where i am but i miss the other guys tht were & r true teammates!!"

after simply reading T.O.'s comment i have come to the conclusion that by using the name Romo it has removed all doubt that said QB is in fact Romo..

I can't believe we are now using twitter as a source/ref. Says more about us than T.O.

Why? The account appears to be his. Twitter's just another, new way of communicating information.

If he had posted it on his website, nobody would care about that as a source and the Web as we know it is only 10-15 years old.

Where were you when everybody was pretty much affirming that Garrett was about to get the head-coaching job, only suddenly being turned down? Where were you when the GM of the St. Louis Rams denied that the turning down of Jason Garrett had anything to do with the calls coming into the Rams organizations expressing their outrage that Garrett was about to get hired? Hell, Garrett was lucky that the GM was his close friend, otherwise he wouldn't have even gotten that close to the job in the first place after 2008...

Twitter's just this generation's slap bracelets and pop rocks.

I can't stand that site and it sticks in my craw that's where "reporters" have to get their information.

They probably didn't even get the information off of twitter, but this site and DCs work... If he never came up with the quote, it would have gone unnoticed...

"They" didn't. It was discovered (presumably) by DCF (blogger), who was then given credit by the DMN when it garnered a bigger role on their blog. From there it didnt' take long for ESPN to pick it up. It was just a normal progression.

The "real" media types (no offense DCF) didn't use twitter here, but this might make them start.

What is annoying is people like Mosley making it appear that they actually did some work, as if they had done something that wasn't already done... With the age of the internet, reporters on big-name shows have essentially become useless 'breaking' stories like a year after it happened...

Yep...it's just another source to lighten their load. I'd guess that several DFW media members have been using this forum for years now to find their stories and "create" ideas. It's uncanny how often a "story" comes out in the professional circles that was discussed here within a few days of publication.

Not true. Mosley gave credit to DCF and I posted it in this thread.

Nah... If it was me, I'd be ranting on about how Garrett sucks garbage and keep it at that... And it wouldn't be:

"That Garrett.. he be fool, cuz the guy ain't know how to throw me a slant son... for real..."

And worth it for this because Khiladi did a nice job of ribbing on himself. Good stuff.

As for the rest...meh. Clearly there are people, on both sides of the TO thing, who can't let the guy go completely and feel the need to talk about stuff that really isn't important to the 2009 Dallas Cowboys, and things that really aren't news. Pretty much everyone knew this would be how he felt, and what he'd eventually say, so it's really not news. Simply TO confirming what pretty much everyone knew he thought anyway.

I like the guy. He made a lot of plays while in Dallas. He caused drama as well, both intentionally and then just because he's TO. I'll miss the plays he made. I'll miss the funny moments he had when he was in a good mood. I won't miss the drama, deserved or not, that goes with him.

He's gone. It's no different than Roy Williams being gone. Canty being gone. Thomas being gone. Anyone, for that matter, no longer being on the team this year.

They're gone. They're not important to the Cowboys anymore.
