Never got the chance to go to Tampa. Pats found a trade partner before they were going to proceed to cut him.

If they let him walk next year, chances are the Panthers get a 3rd or 4th rd comp pick. So, the Panthers are paying $12M for Gilmore to play 10 games this year.

NE gets $12M in cap relief and loses the 3rd or 4th rd comp pick they would have got from letting Gilmore walk.

He is better than he was last year. And they are a pretty solid team. I think even a middling Darnold has them in contention for a WC
