I agree, his press conferences were interesting just watching his personality and how he handled the media.

I just went back and watched his first welcome press conference and it was telling. There was a segway to some players reponding to the Parcells hiring. His reputation preceded him, 2nd player commenting, "Players want to play better when they know their job is in jeopardy".

I thought he was turning the cowboys around and on the right path.
I remember the NFCCG vs Sea-Quacks....yeah, the one Romo mishandle the FG snap that would have sealed the win for the cowboys.

The mishandled snap FG had it been good would have given the Cowboys the lead.

It would have been very far from a game sealing FG though.

The Parcells era brought hope but it never materialized. I hated how conservative Parcells was, but in retrospect at least his defenses played hard. I think he gave up way too soon, seems like he just quit. For a while there I thought maybe he thought he could never win with Romo and that’s why he just called it quits. Obviously it’s hard to deal with Jerry but in those days it felt like Parcells was in charge. I guess he likes to rebuild teams and then leave.

He didn't quit on the team. It was entirely strategic. He ruled the culture. We all know how Jerry likes to be the players' friend. The only way you can maintain a Parcells' culture is if you are going to be taken as more important than the players; and that may not be the ase when you are in the last year of your contract. Jerry didn't want to renew with only 12 months left. That significantly weakens your hand when you are hard on players.

I've watched it in many sports. Phillips walked in on a team that was set up. Initially, they ride that structure.....and then it falls apart when players are not held accountable. Just as it unfolded. Parcells was too conservative at times. What would I give for that now!

Ya all those brain moves Parcells had like bringing in Testaverde, Richie Anderson and Eddie George. What he thought was a cure was to bring in old players on their downward side of their careers. Phillips did what Parcells never did and that was the Cowboys with him as head coach won the division twice and played in two divisional rounds of the playoffs. Parcells never won the division and never got past the wildcard round. I'll use a Parcells saying, you are what your record says you are and since Parcells never won a divisional title his teams must not have been that good.

He's building a team from scratch and he brought in guys like Testaverde, familiar with the system. Work with a lot of young guys. By the time he left he had Barber and Jones producing at a higher level than the current GREAT! And had that team playing better than this one. Pure garbage here. I know I'd love to see Parcells here today. The old Parcells. This team wouldn't look horrific right now. You look at player acquisitions, but not the overhaul of the system and the result of taking crap and making it competitive.What's funny is how was the Wade Phillips era by 2009? Where'd they end up LOL Tells you all you need to know about that coaching setup. By 2010, just an absolute mess. Sure Wades a better coach than Parcells... or any of them could've taken the 2002 version Cowboys even further?? LMAO You are fooling yourself.

When Terry Glenn would have an excuse or maybe even a legitimate reason for some error, Parcells would call Glenn, "she" or "honey bunch". Hahaha, always playing mind games.

People forget Shaun Alexander busted out a big run on the very next play. If not for that the cowboys force the 3&out and get the ball back at the 50 with time left

He changed the culture, he helped Jerry get his new stadium and also proved he wasn't the same HC he once was.

Thats the key to the Parcells hire. Getting the grand new palace to play in. Jer needed a name to sell to get his new digs built. He wasn't getting it done on Dave Campos name.

He brought Romo through. I watched his development in TC in Oxnard. You seem to forget that Jerry invested heavily in Chad Hutchinson & Drew Henson whom both were supposedly high hopes.

Nope................Romo rotted on the bench while losers like Testicleverde and Bledslow gave us no hope. It wasnt until Romo's 4th year that Parcells finally played him. Then he quit.

Parcells was a washed up joke of a coach by the time he got here. He was a better roster builder than he was a coach at the time. If it wasnt for LT, Parcells teams never would have won diddly. His one fatal flaw was affinity to settle for bus driving QB's to run his offense.

One of the worst eras? You obviously ignore what was there the years preceding Parcells. You may also have forgotten the last years of Landry and earliest years of Johnson. I take it you do not recall the expansion years, quite understandably.

Parcells turned this franchise into a contender again in a very short time. Unquestionably the best HC in franchise history since Jimmy. Maybe, just maybe, ever. Too difficult to argue the case in different generations. Quincy was not a Parcells guy. Vinny and Drew showed Romo how to be a QB in this league. They were legitimate QBs, a little statuesque and imobile, but definitely QBs.

Not for me. There was absolutely no hope at all watching Parcells roll out QC and the other band of retread QB's. None at all. Old 3 yards and a cloud of dust Parcells was well past his prime.

We get it that you're a huge Parcells fan but when he was in Dallas he didn't walk on water like you think he did. First you've been implying that Parcells was really the GM and EVERYONE knows Jones has been the real GM since the day he bought the Cowboys. Then you make a big deal about how a team changed in 4 years like that's something new. Since free agency and the cap started most teams have a much different roster four years later, ESPECIALLY when there are new coaches. The you made a big deal about Julius Jones and Barber. Jones who rushed for 1000 yards ONCE in his ENTIRE career, his 3rd season. He left the Cowboys for the sea hawks signing a 4 year deal but his numbers dropped off so much that he had to renegotiate his contract for a big reduction or get cut. He finally was cut after that season and signed with the saints after week 4 and managed all of 223 yards for the 2010 season. Now Barber who NEVER got to 1000 yards at ANY time in his career and after 5 years was cut and the bears signed him to a two year deal but cut him after just one season and was never heard from again. So Parcells had two young backs that were being kind, average at best and two old guys in George and Anderson and that pretty much describes Parcells eye for talent while in Dallas.
