Parnell to Jags

Shows how much more Dallas thinks of Free than Parnell

How does signing the less expensive player show that they thought more of Free ?

Many people predicted that the Cowboy would sign whichever of the two that would take the lowest offer.

I agree with your statement. I don't see good or great teams offering players like Parnell that kind of money if it is 6 or 6.5 mill. For Parnell this is a very good thing he gets paid and he becomes a starter something he would not get or at least has yet to achieve any where. If I am in his shoes and been in the league since 2009 never cracking a starting lineup I'm biting at the bit to go some where's that I have the chance to be a starter. I'm sure bench players like getting a ring but even that means little if you are not getting to play very often.

But you can see how much these players are getting overpaid when they're stating where they're going before free agency even starts!

These offers are so far out of whack that the players are accepting them before the teams have a chance to come to their senses and realize what they've done.

Happens all the time.

I happy for Parnell, he'll do real well opening holes for Murray to run through. Now, on to the draft!

"What Dallas thinks" is measured in dollars and Dallas voted for the guy who took less money.

OL players have looked at Free as a leader in their own words I have never heard anyone claim Parnell as a leader. Parnell has been nothing more than a backup he has had chances to take Free job and failed. If some poor organization wants to pay him 6.4 mill that is their choice and may explain why Jacksonville has been such a bad team. Overpaying for a guy who has done little is not a great move. I'm glad the Cowboys are thinking, they were not foolish enough to try and match that offer.

I agree and also why I am glad that last season Dallas waited before hitting FA looking for good deal and not getting caught up in the feeding frenzy that takes place at the start of FA

Parnell got 13M guaranteed on a 5 year, 32M deal.

Free got 6M guaranteed on a 3 year, 15M deal.

XWalker was right on who the better player is going forward.

Jacksonville has a boatload of cash they have to burn through or get in trouble with NFLPA. They
have no choice to overpay.

Over spending for a player like Parnell would be stupid. I know you like him but he is not a rookie, he has been cut by NO twice, Dolphins once and been in Dallas since 2010 and has not won a starting job. I think your views of him are higher than what others think about him including Dallas

They have a choice, you do not get better by overspending on JAGS. Great name for their team

Like I said, I'm happy for Parnell but, he is a paycheck player while Free is a Cowboy for life.
Who would you rather have on your team?

There is no way they can police this. The NFL lets agents and teams have a 3 day legal tampering window. Do they think they aren't going to talk about contract terms right there? And how would you stop them short of closing that?

No one disputes Free is a leader on the OL. But you don't pay for leadership in the past, you pay for performance going forward. And if Free is clearly the better player going forward (which was conventional wisdom here) why did Free take half the money Parnell got? Even assuming the Jags overpaid (they did), the salaries wouldn't be close to each other. Jacksonville paid twice as much as Dallas because they had to. The league valued Parnell going forward more than Free, and Free's salary reflects that.

This isn't true either

Why do people find it necessary to bag on guys who accept big contracts...get over it

Doesn't make him a paycheck player...how do you know dallas didn't want free over him? Then what is he supposed to do? Play in Dallas without a contract?

Free is better that is why the only time Parnell has played is when Free has been injured. Parnell is not some rookie, he has been around and has yet to win that job outright. Because some loser team pays him 6.4 mill does not make him better player. Again if he is better he wins the job outright that has never happened. Jags overpayed for an avg player. Dallas paid an avg player a fair deal

You want to say Parnell is better because of a contract? lol When has he won the starting job that is how you gauge what a team thinks of a player.

I think that has yet to be determined. Dollar amount does not necessarily equate with being a better player, or Brandon Carr would be the best corner on the Cowboys (not Orlando Scandrick).

None of which means he's a better player

I can show you many examples or dollars not equaling level of play...
