Would you draft Rob Gronkowksi with the 4th overall pick? I certainly would.

It's a ridiculous statement to be honest.

Would you trade Claiborne for basically anyone?

People overvalue draft picks over talent and it blows up their faces.

No one would have taken Gronkowski in the top 4 when he was coming into the draft. He lasted into the second. Using hindsight to project future picks is as useless as tits on a mule.

Not true. Hardy is still out there. Dwight Freeney would be a good stopgap pass rush specialist. Courtney Upshaw is worth a look at the right price. Heck, I keep saying they should take a look at Bjoern Werner as a DE, he was miscast by the Colts as a LB. Is he likely to be "the answer"? Probably not, but 3 years ago we got a surprise effort out of George Selvie. There can be guys cut and/or traded and I am sorry, but just adding Bosa to this team is not going to improve the defense dramatically, rookies rarely bump the speedometer as pass rushers. Don't cite the one or two exceptions....because that is what they are, exceptions and no way to guarantee. Even if Bosa meets all the hype, he isn't a double digit sacker as a rookie.

Ramsey would be a big improvement over Church. Elliott would be an improvement over McFadden most likely, especially since he can excel in the ZBS rather than having to go back to a man blocking team like we had to for McFadden. Also fits Morris as a backup if we sign him. Myles Jack, if healthy, is a huge improvement to the LB corps. Maybe a trade back and add another high pick and still get a clear improvement at a spot we are weak.. Elliott would be fantastic a few picks lower than where we are or maybe a cornerback....God knows we can improve there.

I would be pleased if we re-signed Hardy. Freeney or Upshaw? Not so much.

I agree that Bosa alone won't improve this defense a lot, but I'm afraid at this point they're relying largely on him, and he might not even be there.

Jones is already set to be the free safety. I don't think Ramsey playing strong safety (or Jones SS and Ramsey FS) is going to make a significant improvement to our defense.

Don't think Jack is a huge upgrade over McClain either.

That's like saying would you draft Brady with the #1 pick.. Of course you would. But we don't have a time machine.

No my point is you take the best player who can best impact your team. You don't focus as much on the draft pick.

Jack wouldn't be taking McClain's spot.

The argument against your second point is that you want a high #1 pick to finish his career with you, not be a one contract player.

Since there are RB's that succeed every year from all different backgrounds, they are not nearly as valuable as some of the other positions. Almost no one builds a team around a RB anymore. The old formula of QB, LT, pass rusher, corner and a 3 down LB is still pretty much the best chance of winning consistently. The best RB in the game (Peterson) has a team that hasn't had playoff success...one trip to conference championship while he has been there, 3 losses in WC.

And that argument is flawed as they have no guarantee of finishing their career with you and there is no financial benefit to them doing so. Once they hit that second contract, they may as well be free agents.

We just built an offensive line with 4 first round quality players, putting the best running back behind it we can should be the way we go, not getting complacent and just throwing anyone back there.

Peterson had great success when he had a QB to help him in Favre. It's not just about the RB, but a running game can change your team, please see the 2014 Dallas Cowboys.

If that is your point then Bosa is probably not the answer. Your contention is we have to take Bosa. It's not true.

We can absolutely cut Cart right now. It would save $6.3M against the cap too. It would result in $7M in dead cap space, but June 1st is still $4M in dead space so it's not a huge deal. I'd cut Carr now and get the cap space to plug holes.

And replace him with whom? Wait and see if you have a replacement first.

Ramsey can play CB as can Jones. Versatility. Not championing the pick though.

Trust me, I don't want to take Bosa. I want Zeke. My point is the team has put themselves in a corner with the pass rush.
