Patrick Robinson deal put on hold **Update: Signs with Colts**

Dallas offered 3 years, 13.5MM, 5.5MM guaranteed

Indy offered 3 years, 14MM, 6MM guaranteed

We don't know if the money is more front-loaded in the Indy offer, but I would bet it is. Indiana also has a State tax of 3.3% but that is trivial IMO.

Probably front loaded the base salary so that he can make most of the contract in one year in case he gets waived, because $500,000 is not a reason to take one deal over another.

Trivial? Really? That 3.3% essentially equals the nominal delta between the two contracts.

Maybe this fits in with your stalking horse theory? Hard to tell.

Players pay the tax of the State where the game is played. A Cowboy playing an away game in SF pays California tax. So regardless of where Robinson signed he was going to pay State taxes on most of his away games.

So getting taxed on half his games anyway, that nets out the 3.3% Indiana tax down to less than 2%. 2% of 6 million is 120K, which is real money but still trivial in the big picture of this contract IMO.

All this bluster over the 79th best FA according to nfl.com.

We have a need there, the kind you can patch with a FA of his caliber, free agency isnt supposed to be about big splashy moves. Now we still have a hole to fill and limited FAs left to fill it. Hall is the only one left with a slight possibility of others shaking loose in June. I'm all for managing the cap wisely, but there is such a thing as driving too hard of a bargain.

Presumably, he plays out something closer to his 3 year $14 mm contract which makes the tax effected difference between Indy and Dallas moot.

Especially when they waste so much cap space on guys like Carr, Church and Free.

They walk such a hardline with FAs but will not even acknowledge the huge problems already on the team.

I'm not doing your work for you, there was a 10 page thread for the guy. Continue defending the Jones' every move, I'm sure they appreciate it.

Long thread in the dog days of the offseason means everyone was in love?

If so we are about to put Benson in the ring of honor based on the length of his thread.

So Robinson is paying less tax in Indiana where they have a State Tax than in Texas, which doesn't have one? No wonder he fired his agent!!

He got more money from Indy, there is no way around it.

Dude he got a mill more to go play for a defense that's even worse than ours. You have to admit, this kind of stuff never used to happen to America's Team. This offseason has been a big red flag to me. Either free agents aren't buying what we're selling about the future or Garrett/Stephen are a turnoff personality wise.

Carr's deal is exactly why they changed their stance. Free is a relative bargain, and the Church deal was a favorable one for Dallas, overall. We're in the last year of it, where his cap hit is high, but it's still manageable.

AFC South is a boon.

Tenn
Jax (Fl)
Hou (Tx)
6 games with no tax. Not much diff than 8 Free in Dallas

Carr- they could have walked away 3 years ago but keep diving back in
Free- is no bargain, over 40m in cap hits
Church- almost 5m is a waste and they do nothing but eat it

You need to take a look at what players get paid league wide at these positions.

Big time, nobody would be praising this move if it happened and now it's like they lost an integral piece. People need to settle down.

You need to check yourself. You are talking about the 30th best corner per PFF.

Exactly the same Robinson who ranked 16th last year one spot after Peterson. Would have been a huge upgrade on this team. Its 28th by the way.

Colts signed CB Patrick Robinson, formerly of the Chargers, to a three-year, $12 million contract.

A report from Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram indicated Robinson turned down more money from the Cowboys. Robinson had been expected to sign with Dallas, but had a change of heart upon visiting the Colts. He'll replace Greg Toler opposite Pro Bowl right corner Vontae Davis. Robinson earned PFF's 28th-highest cornerback grade out of 118 qualifiers last year.
