I think it's interesting people assume he'll be traded.. They had just as much respect for Ware and he was released. He already had a deal with Denver in place.

I've been wrong alot lately (lol), but put me in the camp that he'll be a designated June 1 cut and released before the next league year.
Exactly, but I don't see why they wouldn't at least TRY and trade him first and get something for him.

Of course they can try, but if teams know the Cowboys aren't keeping him, they're not gonna offer much. Not because he wouldn't be worth it, but because they figure they can get him on the open market.
Oh I totally agree. Like I mentioned in another thread, I wouldn't be shocked if teams just wait for his release.

I think that's mainly due to the fact that the quarterback position is unlike any other in sports. There simply aren't enough to go around.

Look no further than what teams are willing to pay and give up for guys like Sam Bradford and Brock Osweiler. Nothing shows the desparartion involved more than that.

Teams "figured" that before too, and paid the price when they were proven wrong about it. If Romo hit the open market, certain teams that could have traded for him would have little or no chance of signing him.

agreed, but Ware's situation was a bit different in that in addition to being injured regularly his production was trending down, and he was still on the hook for what four years at elite level pay? he wouldn't accept a pay cut with Dallas, so expecting a trade with any reworking was probably unlikely, and doubtful as great as he was that anyone would have traded for him and paid his full contract. I believe hew as due like 15-16 mil, and his contract with Denver was like 10-11 and nothing giving up for the right.

And obviously it goes without saying that QB's are more valuable than DE's especially to a team that's a QB away from dominating.

A June 1st cut makes alot of sense to me as well. However, I there might be an upside for a team to trade for him vs trying to win him in a open market FA situation.

Fair point, but there are folks who think we'll actually land a 1st round pick for Tony at this stage, and that seems crazy to me, personally.

Maybe not financially, but I think that Romo will want out and the team will respect his decision and do what they need to do to make that happen.

Romo doesn't have to rework his contract and the team can't afford to pay him $24.7 million as a backup. Something's gotta give.

I agree that it is in the best interest for both parties to work out some sort of trade scenario. The problem is going to be getting another team to give the Boys a deal in which they feel comfortable letting a top 10 QB go.

I'm hoping he lands with the Jets. Gives me a reason to watch more football. :)

Due to Jerry's loyalty, he would only try to trade Romo to a team of his choice. Those exact teams would be the ones who would sign him as a FA. I would bet they would also not give up picks if they think there is a good chance of nabbing him.

Outside of Den, Arizona, Buffalo or KC........no one else has a chance at Romo whether he is traded or released.

Teams know this, so his trade value will be pretty low IMO. For example, let's say Denver wants him, they will not offer up much because they know that Tony would probably pick them over most if he were released. Cleveland could offer a 1st and a 2nd but if Romo says no.....Jerry won't send him there.

It would have to be a multi-team bidding war(of good teams) behind the scenes to raise the stakes.

I think Dallas will do all they can to give Romo a chance to start on a team of his choice.

Yep. It won't be easy, but they have plenty of time and I'm confident that something gets done.

And then we can all debate about whether they got enough or whether it was the right decision!

Broaddus and his "sources" seemed to think it will come down to Houston and Denver.

He would probably be most interested in Houston if they are in the market.

I agree, but I think that there will be a balance of all factors involved. The Cowboys will of course try to accommodate Romo's wishes, but not at the risk of screwing themselves in the process.

All parties involved will have to be reasonable and willing to make some measure of concessions to make it work. The art of negotiation.

Interesting.

Romo has been overly criticized for years by some people. He's no longer the starter but wants to play as a starter. One option being speculated is Denver but seemingly some people feel that he "shouldn't be allowed" to go outside the division and outside the conference because he might defeat Dallas down the road?

So not only did some people want him to lose the job he's dreamed of landing--and did--but some people don't want him to seek his dream OUTSIDE the NFC East and OUTSIDE the NFC?

The guy cannot, literally, catch a break with some people. Selfishness knows no limits. The funny thing is that some people have always said Romo can't win in the playoffs, which begs the question...

If he "can't" win in the playoffs what does it matter which team he goes to next?

What is WRONG with some people?

Both make sense at face value 'on paper', but several factors will play a role.

I don't rule out Chicago, or anywhere that Scott Linehan could be hired as a head coach if things continue going well for him.
