Per The Ticket: Josh Brent sentenced to 10 years Probation and 180 days in jail.

DALLAS –– A Dallas County jury on Tuesday began deliberating the fate of ex-Dallas Cowboy Josh Brent, who faces up to 20 years in prison for the death of friend and teammate Jerry Brown, Jr.

The jury was sequestered at 4 p.m. after failing to reach a verdict. They will return Wednesday morning for further deliberations.

Brown was killed in Dec. 2012 while riding in the passenger seat of Brent’s Mercedes, which struck a curb at a high rate of speed and flipped on an Irving highway after the two left a northwest Dallas club.

Both the defense and prosecution wrapped closing arguments moments after 11 a.m. Tuesday. The defense once again attempted to poke holes in the state’s charge that Brent was intoxicated the night of the wreck.

I have to agree with this, Idge.
I know you aren't looking to be mean, or insensitive to anyone, but the statement can be construed by some as being so.

Poor word choice, though I'm not sure the right word even exists. In any event, I think you exactly get my point. I hope so, anyway.

I don't think it was a poor word choice at all. It was in response to people calling what Brent did murder. Both men made a serious mistake, but neither one wanted to die or kill someone. I think it is similar to texting and driving. Many people still do it even though we now know it is as dangerous as drunk driving. People over-estimate their own abilities, especially when impaired and young people see themselves as invincible. Most people have to go through a tragedy or a few near misses to finally get the point and I do speak from experience. When I was younger and dumber and drunker, I saw it as a challenge to my man-hood when someone questioned my ability to drive home. I am very thankful I never hurt someone, but I realize that it was just dumb luck(pun intended).

Give Sean Lee credit for being in the courtroom supporting Josh Brent. He is a true leader. He walks it. He talks it. He lives it.
My question is where were his other teammates. His defensive line mates. The players that were at the club with him. Where were they
Thats why i hope Sean Lee can stay healthy and have a great career to live up to what is already an All Pro, Hall of Fame type character

From FB post: Clarence E Hill Jr^^^^Sean Lee does not go out with Josh Brent. He doesnt condone his activities. but he was there for support like a leader, like a friend...that speaks to his character. the jury will decide brent's fate. He will have to live with his decision that killed a friend for the rest of his life. Sean Lee was there to give him a hug..a hand clap for him

Yes, boo hoo for Josh Brent, it must be so lonely knowing your former teammates are off doing things with their lives besides driving drunk and accidentally killing their homies. I will pour one out for poor ole Josh and his hurt feelings.

How many of Brent's defensive line mates are still in Dallas? Ratliff and Lissemore are gone. Who else?

Well, it's the offseason. They may still have homes there. Also, McCray and Church testified in the trial, because they were out with him on that night.

Must be nice up there on that horse.

Its actually not that hard to live through your life without getting in a massive DUI wreck going 100+ MPH and killing your friend. People that make such insane decisions get judged harshly.

Ever used a Cell Phone while driving, proven a much worse distraction than driving with a BAC of.08.

To clarify: Murder is a narrow legal term, at least in Texas and most states excluding prefectures in Asia and some cantons in Switzerland.

Murder usually involves intent and premeditation.
Whatr we sometimes refer to as murder can become manslaughter, vehicular homicide, negligent homicide even self-defense.

Unless the prosecution could half proven intent and premeditation, the charge half to be manslaughter, etc.

I do not half a law degree but I half watched a lot of them SUV shows that feature a stern police captain, a rebel detective and a cowardly prosecutor, so I feel I can properly discuss these matters ipso factor and without hesitation on the nuances of the law.

I agree.

No intent on murder.

Many many of us here have gotten in your car buzzed and drove home..

I always made it home and it was OK..

..at the time.

But not now.

I hand the keys over.

again, accident and murder are mutually exclusive

Ever body here, pls save yer tears and compassion for the deceased and his family. Not for the guy who chose to drink (heavily) and speed, indirectly kill his friend, and then tried to minimize his involvement.
Prisons are full for people who have done a lot less, so save those tears for someone who is worth them.

I do half a question. If the victim's mother has forgiven Josh Brent, does that mean she half given up any claims to compensation? What, is she gonna sue the Texas DOT for unsafe highways? Sue the bar for serving her son's drunk best friend? Sue the car for overturning instead of turning on the jets and flying to a safe area?
Where she gonna get her monies?
Or is she not suing at all? (Which would totally surprise me.)

my decision is to have compassion for both thats my decision

As someone who has had drunk driving affect my family, there's no excuse for driving under the influence.

Josh Brent should get jail time. I'm not saying to throw him under the jail, but he owes a debt for this incident and needs to pay it the way that we have set up in this world.

sure, momentary distraction versus impaired driving all the way. And those same studies indicate that just because you are not over the limit does not mean you are fine.

Studies indicate that talking on your cell phone is just as dangerous as driving while impaired.

From: http://www.distraction.gov/download/research-pdf/Comparison-of-CellPhone-Driver-Drunk-Driver.pdf

Conclusion: When driving conditions and time on task were controlled for, the impairments associated with using a cell phone while driving can be as profound as those associated with driving while drunk.

It only takes a momentary distraction to have an accident.

so excusing one persons bad behavior by pointing to other bad behavior...got it....
