Jaylon Smith will be best served more than likely sitting out another year and getting ready for the 2018 season.

They are beyond the point of sitting him, at least in the truest sense. He cannot go on any reserve list since he has practiced.

It is playing sparingly or being inactive. "Sitting" completely him would be tough to do.

A year into his rookie contract is about the max a team is willing to invest most of the time after a damaged player is picked without some sort of contribution.

Marcus Lattimore is a comparison. Great attitude, everyone loved him and was rooting for him. He lasted a year on NFI, then retired officially the following November after being drafted.

Not that Smith is going to end up that way, but sitting a player for two years, cold, is not something that is done very much, if at all.

IR with the chance to return midseason is definitely a possibility. If he's as close as they say, I don't see the point in risking reinjury until he's 100%.

So what tool are they using to know that it is 80% regenerated? Is it like Microsoft download tool bar? There a green bar that shows his progress on his leg?

Let pray that they are using the Apple download bar and not the Microsoft one, as it way too often gets stuck and 90% and then craps out.
Though 90% is still great, but it rarely completes the download...so let's go with Apple for the 100% download, so he can do the beat down on QB's.

Jaylon looks like he's running with 20 pound concrete shoes on. I don't expect much from him this year.

Precisely. Are you telling me you don't have one for personal use? LOL

Get with the times bro. I use mine all the time-

Not feeling well? Check to see if I'm in a healthy 70-80% range before going back to work.

Drank too much last night? Make sure I'm over 75% recovered before going to the gym or exerting myself.

Injure myself while lifting or doing yard work or something? Monitor that stuff daily till I'm right again.

Thought everyone was doing this.

Jaylon Smith with an 80 percent regenerated left knee is still better than any other option the Cowboys have.

I'm still super-excited about this kid.

Those who keep selling Jaylon short are the ones who will be the most surprised.

"But for much of his 85 minutes on the field, he sprinted with abandon and, most importantly, looked like he belonged in the middle of an NFL defense."

80% of the guy who played at Notre Dame is still an above average starter in the NFL.

I would think the doctors would have some device able to measure nerve strength. This is very good news, and the mark of a good reporter. Peter King knows what questions to ask. I think the other beat writers are scared to ask such questions because they're too close to the source and like their club privileges. Peter King has the reputation to go for the jugular and still maintain his standing in the sports journalism world.

Good job.
