That all depends on what Jones promised. What is the urgency from the team standpoint until June 1?
And if Tony sticks out his lower lip and holds his breath.

When in doubt, blame the media. You know, the same thing that you draw your own narrative from. Darn them!I blame the media for creating this situation. The Cowboys most likely always intended to trade Romo but then the media started rumors of Romo's imminent release and suddenly all likely suitors are thinking they can get him as a much cheaper UFA.
Not just explaining to the fan base
The Texans coaching staff will be looking for a new job as well
Both these teams need Romo in the worst way and will trade for him if we have the gumption to hold on

Why can't we hold on to him?
He is being well paid for this year by any standard and is under contract that he signed of his free will
If we release him we not only get nothing in return but we have to pay him AND we have to pay 2-4 million to the back up QB we do sign
How does that make any sense at all?
Yes, that's right... the Cowboys are terrible for signing Romo to a hefty contract and expecting him to fulfil it.You can't just hold on to him if you can't work out a trade. With limited suitors and Romo's history...he's not going to have teams jumping up and down for him. Holding onto him against his will with no intention on keeping himsets an example of how we treat players to the league and the locker room.
I hope we get something. I don't think we know the whole side of the story. For all we know, Romo is the ultimate team guy and wants Dallas to get something in return.
I guess the question is from what we know right now; what is best for the Cowboys?Do whats right for the Cowboys. Love Romo but I want to win
I don't draw my conclusions from them. I see what is happening. When in doubt, blame the media. You know, the same thing that you draw your own narrative from. Darn them!

So you are privy to exactly what Jones and Romo have been discussing?I don't draw my conclusions from them. I see what is happening.
Because that's not how the league works. If a player demands a trade and you have a spot for him then fine, tell him to shut up you can keep him. This happens all the time, it happened to Leary last season.
Holding on to a player that everyone knows around the league will not be on your team next season against their will just for a trade that may or may not happen is an unethical business practice.
How would you like if your employer came to you and said "You're going to be fired but you're not allowed to look for another job until I find a suitable replacement"?
The thing is, I am under the impression that Romo does not have that much value give his age and history the last two seasons, so if we hold onto him, we are just hoping another QB around the league breaks a leg so we can get some decent trade value.
Depending on their definition of "do right" it isn't doing him wrong by continuing to pay him more than anyone else will and expect him to be a good solider and shut the hell up.The evil media didn't force the owner to go on an hour long rant about doing right by Romo at the Combine.
I guess the question is from what we know right now; what is best for the Cowboys?
Nope. It's not that easy. If I'm not mistaken, if he retires, he's still technically part of the team and under contract until that contract would have been up.couldn't Romo just retire to get out of his contract and sign with another team?

Exactly, when there's no news, create news. All you got to do is throw in a "sources" or "someone familiar with" and you can stir the pot with whatever you want. They are making stuff up....yet again
They met on Tuesday and Romo told Jerry there was no pressure to rush right away.
Jerry's words.
That's a crap load of speculation on your behalf. We don't know what was said at said meeting and the media doesn't either but that didn't stop them from commencing to make up rumors of Romo's imminent release. They ruined his tradability for the time being but that will be remedied when a contending team loses it's QB to injury. From my understanding Romo and Jerry sat down on Wednesday where Tony was informed he was being released on Thursday, most all Dallas and national writers have confirmed such meeting.
Something happend on Thursday that changed that probable outcome.
IMO he will be released in the next couple of days and sign with Houston.
