So, according to you, before Garrett came into the picture, Jerry and his coaches conducted daily franchise affairs from afar . . . interesting. I know Jerry traveled considerably and still does but that's really nothing new. He has always claimed he has been in close contact with his coaches and others involved in the operations of the franchise. What separate operations are you referring to in particular?
No again. Apparently, I am miscommunicating. I stated "afar" as in my observations from afar. I cannot answer your question because that is not what I was saying. [Edit] What I am saying is that there hasn't been a country club atmosphere in the franchise in the same context as one that exists in a real-life, existing country club.

I know you can't cut a player because he was suspended.

You can't cut him for failing a drug test but you can cut him for not being good enough, in shape or for salary cap purposes, just like every other player

DAL can recover most the 750k signing bonus since he was suspended and will save another 2.5m against the cap by cutting him....well over 3m

Technically he isn't suspended until the Tuesday before Week One.....he can be cut before then

I don't see how keeping him does any good.....I do not expect him to stay in shape during those 10 weeks or to stay clean with all the extra tests....I would cut him yesterday and sign/trade for a LB than can help us for 16 weeks

Gotcha. Thanks for clarifying. Also, I added that final sentence to my last post to clarify myself. We're cool -- evidently, we were just having a lingering difference of opinion with interpretations of Jimmy's Johnson's 'country club' comment. Not at all a big deal, come to think of it. -- lol.

I guess skipping OTAs wasn't part of the arrangement they had with McClain.

Things are getting harder to figure out all the time lately, with Jerry expecting one thing and Garrett expecting something else. Crazy stuff.

Sure looks and sounds like Jerry wants to minimize the problem, while JG'd like to take Ro to task. Gotta wonder about their communication.

if they want to do that fine.

The team has not been terrible over the past 10 years however. Throwing this 20 year thing out is pretty odd to me.

Prior to 2015 at least, we'd been 8th in the league in winning percentage over the last decade.

And yet nothing will come from it. Jerry loves him some status quo

1. New England Patriots — 122 wins

2. Indianapolis Colts — 110 wins

3. Pittsburgh Steelers — 101 wins

4. Green Bay Packers — 98 wins

5. San Diego Chargers — 97 wins

6. Baltimore Ravens — 96 wins

7. Denver Broncos — 95 wins

8. Dallas Cowboys — 93 wins

9. Seattle Seahawks — 91 wins

10. New Orleans Saints — 90 wins

Only Dallas and San Diego have had no Super Bowl appearances during that time frame.

The Chargers at least have made it past the divisional round of the playoffs and have more playoff berths.

A mediocre or less year in 2016 might reveal a great deal in determining how serious Jerry really is about winning championships. Will he tolerate yet another disappointing performance in 2016 or will his expressed desire for a championship team cause him to initiate significant change? H-m-m.

Jerry always tries to minimize the problem because he's the one wanting to take a chance on these players and when they screw up it makes him and the organization look bad.

Yeah. I'm aware of the playoff drought issues. But the conversation here was about whether or not we've been 'terrible.' The last time it came up it was whether or not we've been a 'laughingstock.' I"d be shocked if you found anybody here who thought we'd been to enough Superbowls during the timeframe in question.

For my part, I believe we've been a decent team that lacks talent on defense. That deficiency gets exposed on post-season where Tony and company end up fighting an uphill battle. Jerry's willing to spend money, but his desire to take chances has led to gambles on players like Claiborne, Lawrence, Jaylon Smith, Randy Gregory, Rolando McClain, and Greg Hardy. Some of those bets look better than others, but the reality is that they're all risks to some degree, and as a group, they really haven't paid off for us.

I don't believe we're a bad team right now, though. And I don't believe the gap between us and, say, GB or SEA is all that wide right now. We just need to play better defense. And to do that, we need better talent. And do to that, we should have been signing more players in FA and using the high draft picks on players who are certain to be able to help us in the short term here while Romo's on the roster.

Actually he is more prone to fall on his sword and be the lightning rod that everyone fixates on. That is what actually happens. the one who is coy and won't criticize his players is Garrett.

Some things never change. He'd be well-advised to reconsider his inclinations to gamble unnecessarily on talent and tolerate undisciplined behavior. It only serves to haunt him (and his team) way more often than not. Many other GMs learn from their mistakes -- somehow, he doesn't. Go figure.

If not for an incredibly ridiculous mistake by the officials we would have beaten seattle last year with cassell most likely.

I agree I don't think the gap between Dallas and GB/SEA/CAR/ARZ is big. I don't think the gap between those teams and the NYG or Minnesota vikings exists either.

Its a year to year league. We have one of the best players in the league at the most important position and with the talent this offense has and Scott Linehan and Tony Romo essentially running the offense we are going to give teams all kinds of problems.

I'm with you on MIN. NYFG I'm in wait-and-see mode just because of the new coach. They sure tried to improve the defense, though. If they really did, their roster on paper looks much improved, for sure.
