I thought so too. The team obviously didn't. Don't change course now.
Unless they think they have a definite replacement already on the team, they may not have a choice this late in the off-season.

For those STILL wondering why Jerry said no to Nick Foles...

With four words, owner and general manager Jerry Jones cut through that when it came to the possibility of the Cowboys looking at Nick Foles as a backup to Tony Romo.

"Foles isn't an option," Jones said.

And why not?

"We can't get him any snaps," Jones said. "We got four that are going to get snaps."

Circumstances have changed so he is certainly allowed to change his view on Foles. It's not like he came out and said Foles sucked and wouldn't help this team in any way.

I'm not sure why Jerry is misunderstood on this. The lack of interest in Foles was because the team wanted to look at the four QBs it has. With Moore breaking an ankle, the dynamic has changed.

Frankly, I believe this could be a lucky break for Dallas (pun intended) because the team has been stubborn in its new position on signing vets and this could force them to pick up one that's needed. Instead of being reactionary about Weeden and Cassel not working out, it could force them to see that having a vet with some skins on the wall might be better than relying on the unknown.

I mean, it fits. There's no better option for him and we have a need. You have to have someone on the roster behind Romo with actual NFL experience. Plus he's got to think he's got a good chance to start with Romo's age and health.
wow miss one day of cowboys news and our bulletproof backup qb plan is shot to begezus.

in any event - now we *should* go out and get someone worth a damn. not sure foles qualifies but worth a damn has to be defined in accordance with who's available and in that light, he would appear to certainly be WaD - worth a damn.

we've not even had round 1 of cuts. let's back up the "no one is available" truck just a bit. :)

The question becomes, how much of camp are you willing to have your eventual QB2 miss? We need to make a move now.

no we don't. if they feel foles can fit, make an offer and lets see if he'll be a backup cowboys. these days that's the next best thing to being a starter cause you likely will be. :)

you will need to get someone familiar with the system sure, but i don't think just grabbing the best off the pile TODAY would be better than something we can get in a few weeks. if 2 weeks isn't going to make a difference in how well they play, 4 weeks won't change that too much.

My statement is accurate, in the current time FA environment, the options are limited. At this point, if a team has a legitimate backup currently on their roster, they'll not be cutting him.

Well, Werder fwiw is saying they're looking to bring him in. Also laufenferberg, for whatever that's worth says bet on him being brought in.
Not sure what he would want to be paid, not that teams are beating down his door, but 2 million in cap room?

If I heard this correctly

Mickey said lateral & medial fractures in the tibia & fibia where they connect to the ankle - 3 months.

The FO may be looking to bring him in but, Foles bought himself out of Rams so that he could pick his situation and that would
not be as a definite backup to Tony Romo. Foles would know that he's not going to be the man in Dallas so that would be like
a career killer for him. I think he will wait to see if a number 1 QB goes down in pre-season or the first few weeks of the season and if so,
go to a team that needs him to start for the remainder of the season. Dallas may well bring in another QB to be the backup but, I can't
foresee Mr. Foles being that guy. Look for someone like Bryce Petty or Glennon or someone who is buried on a depth chart somewhere.

Cowboys backup quarterback Kellen Moorewas carted off the practice field Tuesday, and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones confirmed that Moore suffered a broken right ankle.

Jones did not address how the team would handle the absence of Moore going forward, but the injury will invite speculation that the Cowboys will pursue free agent quarterbackNick Foles.

I really hope they don't sign him, after all he couldn't beat out Case Keanum (or whatever his name is).

That is the sad but true part of the NFL. At this point I want to see what Dak and Showers can do with this opportunity.

Unfortunately I agree. At least go through the first 3 pre-season games. If the coaching staff isn't convinced there will be a Foles type caliber QB still out there.

Well in fairness, the equation has changed, hasn't it?

Not if you weren't willing to even give him snaps over Prescott or Showers it hasn't. If he wasn't a better option than either of them before, he isn't now either.

if all we got is Showers an Prescott

and Romo goes down expect another 4 -- 12 season
Not sure about this, although I don't disagree 100%. I am sure or at least I hope the Coaching staffed learned something from last year as well. That is, if Romo goes out then adjust your game plan accordingly.

They only see Romo and Moore as QBs who could play this year and they simply don't want to take away developmental reps from Prescott and Showers. Prior to Moore's injury they felt Moore was the better fit than Foles so that's why he wasn't an option. Now Moore is out and the logical move is to find a QB who they believe can play this year, and now Foles would be an option.

That is what I just heard on the radio. Broken ankle.

You would have to think Foles is a sure thing now unless they would rather make a trade for McCown or maybe Glennon.

Anyone else we could trade for?

I really wish they would've gone after Colt McCoy this offseason.
