Pickens' agents want to start contract talks at the combine

Not a fan of Jerry, and I’ve said that plenty of times. Whether he actually said what’s claimed depends on what you believe—I don’t know, so I won’t dispute it. Someone can probably provide a link to back it up, but I honestly don’t care; it’s in the past, and I’m focused on what’s needed to improve the team. That said, the idea that Parsons and his agent would have taken less is nonsense. Where’s the proof they didn’t bring a lower number? And why would timing matter if it was just an informal discussion in February last year? Parsons publicly said he didn’t need over $40 million or to be the highest-paid non-quarterback, but then the price went up, and things turned into a circus on both sides. He was never signing for $34 million—he never once said he’d take less if asked earlier. People act like they know every behind-the-scenes detail, but they don’t. What we do know is Parsons said things publicly and then walked them back, Jerry took offense, and while negotiations could have found middle ground, egos got in the way. When Jerry finally tried to talk to the agent, the agent basically shut it down, saying the offer wasn’t close. However it was said, we’ll never know exactly, but there was clearly a big ego clash between them.

Where's the proof? anybody that was in his tier coming up her contract like Myles Garret took 34 million, who signed early for that kind of money, I'm trying to figure it out. You know if somebody would have signed early for that kind of price that would have set the market lower would it not have then we could have got Parsons for lower money but where are those guys that I'm looking for a base that we could say well there you go you could have got him for less?

I mean, the same thing happened with Lamb he came out and said it his agents and him said we were not going to sign until we saw either Chase or Jefferson set the market they wanted to know where the number was they were not going to sign early lots of players are doing this now they're smart enough they're representatives of smart enough if they're in that kind of tier where their top five players and they know it they are not taking less..
Fans will make stuff up all the time then believe it and others will believe it. Because they hate Jerry and this team thst much.
Too bad they will not take time to read all of your post.

I think you are still a believer of the Joneses lulling ways. They have all under control, everthing works and worked out they way they wanted it to etc...

Incompetent conteol freaks need their audience to believe they have everything under control.

For me the frightening part is that this all is so obvious. Still there seem to be people like you who fall for their ways.

And its not obvious for some time now, the Joneses and who they are was clear to see from the day Jerry bought this franchise

This picture is the POC of how to deal with the Joneses to get what you want. It should be hanging in every Dallas Cowboys fans household as a sign of power and knowledge!
Don’t assume you know who I am Thanks

That is a bad take on it, everyone except I guess u knows why we lost games , the defense was so bad.
They need a good offense for playoffs and big reg season games.
Pickens would be a good piece to have for a few years.

What if you trade him for picks and the picks dont pan out?? you lost a good wr for some jags or mediocre players. Bird in the hand !
I explain it in another post. But I’ll do it again.

Having the number one offense has gotten us nowhere. Why? Because even when the defense is good (San Fran, LA, San Fran again) if the offense doesn’t show up they don’t win.

If you have a great defense. A good offense can win games.

Defense travels much better than offense.

The offense can have an off day, and with a good/great defense you have a shot. You can have a fantastic offense and no defense and lose every time.

Committing more money to another WR who’s going to want 100 million after the year the defense just had isn’t good management when you can get more picks to build a better defense.

Especially when you consider the WR. I already explained I don’t trust him. That’s a personal take but it’s mine. I think we can replace him in 27 draft easily if you look at the talent coming out at the position then. Without the worry of him having character issues.

That explain my position?

Dont need to. Jerry literally is already starting his dirty negotiations thru the media lol. It’s plain as day. I called it a month ago.

yeah you make a good point.
But it also makes a difference in who is OC and DC.
those playoff years you mentioned was under Garrett lol.
If they had McVea or Shanahan, same players, game would have been way different.

And with a good defense, they can have off days too or just get run over by a good team with good OC.
Seattle could barely handle Rams, but dominated other teams.Had they lost the 38-37 game the rams would have been top seed and playoffs turn out differently.

This could be the precursor to letting him walk. It’s just a 3rd round pick invested. If he isn’t worth signing for an amount commensurate with his value, he’s not worth over $28 million for one season.

His agent isn’t going to yield a cent because of fines. All 32 teams in the NFL have already formulated an opinion on Pickens. Leaking this kind of thing is to soften fan reaction when he walks and signs with the Chiefs, or Bills, or Ravens.

That’s a good place for him to look for a trade partner. Smart move.

Not a fan of Jerry. How many times do I need t tell you that?
It depends on how much you want to believe if Jerry actually aid that. I have no idea, so will not dispute it.
I am sure you or someone can provide a link to. back it up.
But I do not really care. It is in the past. I look only forward to what is needed to improve the team.
Parsons' agent said it and it's consistent with protocol. Any agent with a 1st Round superstar client who's in line to be highest paid is going to approach the team after Year 3 to get a deal. It's agent malpractice not to. You see Jerry deny it in all that drama?

You say you don't care about the past but I'm here correcting your misrepresentation of the past to justify an emotional move by Jerry that didn't net max value and directly affected improving the team. But who brought up the past? Wasn't me.

Funny to claim that someone citing something Todd Archer said means that Jerry is trashing the player. Pretty sure this was talked about during the season. Guess Jerry was really planning ahead, right?

And other fans believe the front office almost unilaterally.

Even when they don’t, it’s a soft shoe sidestep, just to avoid taking a firm position either way despite obvious and clear evidence.

He’s a liar. Always has been.

It’s messed up that so many fans are willing to accept that because he’s the top of the organization that they have to fall in line. They confuse their loyalty to the team with loyalty to a man.

You don’t have to love Jerry to love the Cowboys.

It’s the timing.

Leaking that behind closed doors the front office is talking about “secret fines” right when it’s time to talk contract is no coincidence.

Surely you see that.

It’s no accident. We’ve been talking about Jerry’s media hit pieces for years.

Then why be dirty?

They can just let him walk.

But you are correct. It’s because Jerry wants the hearts and minds so he needs to turn his contractual opponents into enemies.

It’s straight out of the playbook.

Which pick are you using to replace GP?

It better be #12 if you want even the third best WR in the class. The top two will be gone before then

Do you think the third or fourth best WR in this class can “easily replace” Pickens?

I don’t think you’ve done the draft research to prove your point. Lemon and Boston won’t produce GPs all pro production and you might not even get Lemon that early even though he’s under 6 feet.

It’s perfectly fine if you believe spending #12 on Lemon or Boston is the way to go.

Doing so doesn’t show how is spending our top pick serves our defensive makeover.

We already have the #1 free agent in football and he’s already proven to be a perfect complement to Dak and CeeDee in actual NFL play.

Please don’t say we’re going to easily replace Pickens in the fourth round. A fourth rounder might not ever even get a second contract, let alone be a WR1b like Pickens.

I'll be in Indy next week. I'm sure I will hear tons of things from colleagues and NFL people that you and others will claim are unsubstantiated.

The drama is nothing fabricated by fans at all. It is a known thing in League circles that the Cowboys have a way of doing things as it pertains to high profile players and contract negotiations.

You can believe what you like. Professionally I know for a fact from past personal experience how they handle these things using media.
One of the things I see happening is as Jerry is getting older and more senile, he's being less guarded and clear with how he states things. (He's spoken in circles for years.) I think there were several comments that he made about Parsons that he did not say the right way and the front office just had to deal with the fallout of it.

They definitely have their own way when it comes to contract negotiations, but I think Jerry is now making things worse by saying whatever comes into his addled mind. He did that a little bit with Lamb and a lot more with the Parsons ordeal last year.

At Jerry's age and after all he’s accomplished he has to resent having to deal with agents as is prescribed in the CBA. Fans have to wonder what players he’s passed on through the years simply to avoid uncomfortable negotiations and/or agents he’d rather not engage. Fans can see the contentious mess he too often creates with players. It is peculiar he cannot get his franchise in a conference championship for such a long period of time.

If he’d remove himself as General Manager he may be able to lessen the personal nature of his relationship players and their respective agents. The reality is he’s overmatched by professional agents and knows very little about how to build an ultimately successful roster in the contemporary NFL.

And all that means nothing today. Play what if’s all you want. It has no bearing for what needs to be done.
Hate Jerry for it all you want. Waste your energy on thst.

I am just looking to see what happens for the 2026 season.
Do I like Jerry and his antics, absolutely not. But don’t come down on me for my opinion to look to this season.

I was talking about 2027. Don’t know why that was missed and why you seem so upset about it.

Are we going to really for once get down to business or we going to need to get tape measures out again?

Sammy Suspenders puts it right now at 30% he gets a long term deal, 60% he plays on the tag and 10% he gets traded.

His agent is going to want 40 Jerry going to say 30 Jerry will stay somewhere N of 30 pick worthless hardnose mgr wants 38 Pickens plays on the tag.

Depends how one looks at what they could do in the draft, if it falls that way.
Several different ways to look at this. And as we know fans will have many different opinions. And it will end up completely something different. Like picking lottery numbers.

One thing we can all agree on, how they attack FA is a big factor.
Your scenario is right, that they need 2 years to bring in talent.

However, if it is going to take 2 years. Then 1 impact player will not fix this defense this year. Unless Parker and his scheme and new coaches are so great they surprise us all.
So do they go for that impact player and another very solid player, that can turn into an impact player.
Or trade down the 20th pick, and get 1 impact player, and 2 or 3 solid players that can turn into very good starters.

IMO if an impact player is not there at 12, then trade down, same for 20th pick. Pick up a 2nd and 3rd. Maybe anther 4th or 5th.
Get 4 solid defensive players, and will all contribute, and at least 2 be starters, and the other 2 can eventually become starters. Then use 2027 picks to continue that plan.

The defense can completely be overhauled in 2 years.
I think it can be done and to keep Pickens. As Dak needs those type of players. And in 2 years, in 2028, use the 1st round for a QB.
i agree if there is not an impact player that is going to change your defense you have to trade down pick up the extra picks and not reach. The question is what type of player Parker would deem as his Impact Player. You would have to know what type of Defense he was going to run correct? If he running a Penny 8 0r 5 wide Mansoor would be a Impact player but so would Jamel Dean If you moved down Harold Rankins Sonny styles are perfect could sign Nakobe Dean So does leave several options If he runs that type of Defense Any thoughts
