They are now, so there's no rush, the immediate concerns over

Yes, but there's enough potential CAP savings in restructuring: DLaw, Diggs and even Dak. Could then Post -June Gallup depending on needs post draft.

There's this false consciousness, spread by Dak Fans that we MUST extend Dak to get under, that's just not true. Let him prove his worth in 2024.
To be a significant player in free agency you need to extend Dak.

I voted no, although I'm not extremely confident in that. Jerry always says, "Deadlines makes deals".

I think now they will.

But in the most cowboys type way. They wait until August so we cannot be active in free agency.

But even then we can't afford (nor Jones has even looked at) the star level game changing FA's like Chris Jones' .
Dak, play out the contract, prove you can perform in the play-offs and we'll see about a contract in 2025....AFTER THE LAST THREE YEARS, WE ARENT CONFIDENT ENOUGH TO GO ALL-IN BEHIND YOU.
We'd probably be better off spending money on a QB Whisperer, to calm Dak down in stressful situations.

Actually I think that would be the fair thing to do for both sides. Prove it and if shown then pay the money. Fail and get out.
How many more prove it years does he get? He has had plenty. We all know what he is at this point.

If they are going to extend the longer they wait the more it will cost. Just like his rookie deal.

Exactly, because I know what he is I wouldn't extend him today, tomorrow or never. Giving him yet another year to prove (will be his 9th) is already a nice gesture, too kind and delusional for what he already makes, production does not match cost. Any businessperson would understand.
So why on earth would you pay him 59 million lol? Help me understand “businessperson” lol.

STOP Lying again Dak lover as Dak gets a total of 34 million in his pocket if he has the luxury to play out this coming season.
59 million is what counts against the cap........

I don’t care what he gets. I’m talking as far as this team goes. If you cut him you don’t have to pay 59 million right? Why do you care what he pockets?

I care when facts are misrepresented due to agendas that have nothing to do with the truth of the issue at hand.

You really should look up how this works. Nobody is paying anyone 59 million regardless of whether Dak is cut or not.

Yep... Ive been gone. I needed to step away as this last playoff loss hurt me in ways I havent been hurt by sports in a long time. i didnt want to see any BS, hear any BS, didnt want to talk football, see football or think football. I was so disgusted with that *** whooping to a team we were clearly better than. But once again, we got to the playoff s and Dak sucked, defense sucked and an opposing team's qb looked like Joe Montana against us. It’s taken me almost 3 months to start slowing creeping back.
Yea, expectations were high for many fans. I never bought into the hype and the way we played down the stretch didn’t think we deserved the 2 seed which basically fell in our lap after Egirls collapse and Dumb Dan ridiculous 2 point conversion addiction.

But we should have given GB a better game. Love and the Packers played much better down the stretch and he looks like one of the next good QB’s coming up. They took SF to the brink as well who then lucked out with Dumb Dan and horrible risk game mgmt.

But I still see the 2014 Dez catch that wasn’t as the most heartbreaking playoff loss this era. That’s the one I thought that offense was best this era. Romo’s most effective season. Murray leading rusher. Definitely a championship caliber offense. And maybe enough to carry average defense. And we had beaten Seattle earlier . Would have liked our chances there.

2007 and 2016 were other disappointments with a legit shot at reaching championship game with 1 seed.

But none of this eras disappointments rank with the heartbreaks of prior eras in Devastating losses when we absolutely had championship caliber teams. Worst losses in Cowboys history which I’ve lived thru and witnessed every one of them beginning with 1967 NFL title loss. SB V, SB X, SB XIII, 81 and then 94 champ game.

Yep .. and probably why this contract negotiations will play out longer than most anticipated cause it’s going to set a new Market price.

I’d imagine Dak is willing to let it play out if he’s not offered the deal he’s looking for. Worse case scenario he becomes a FA after the season.

And if Jethro waits to see how the season and playoffs play out it could be too late to get a deal done. But I don’t think Dak needs to prove anything to our FO , coaching staff or team. Just the fans and media. Typical public perception. It’s why so many players and ex players come out in support. Based on what they’ve seen think he’s enough. That doesn’t necessarily mean he will be. Not everyone fulfills their potential.

No, my hunch is a deal gets done by Camp or preseason . If it goes into the regular season , it’s probably over. I just can’t see Jethro ready to move on from Dak but anything is possible.

"Cost against the salary cap" is much different than paying out an amount.

Who is being paid 59 million, in any of the scenarios that might unfold?
Not sure I follow what you’re saying. So you’re saying he doesn’t cost the Cowboys cap 59 million?

if he doesn’t get extended, the Cowboys can unilaterally convert salary into bonus and move the salary cap dollars to voidable years so they can reduce his cap hit if they want by 18 million dollars this year
