The genius staff drafts Zeke in the 1st round, 4th overall. Ok, I wouldn't but Zeke was great, so hopefully it gets us over the hump.
It doesn't, but lets keep running him into the ground & extend him AFTER his peek. Also, let's not use Pollard until he's in his 4th season, great idea!
Year 4, the RB roster clearly lost gas by the end of the season. And, Pollard gets injured in the playoffs, so now we are one dimensional against a great defense.
Brilliant!

Now some are talking about tagging Pollard and maybe extending him?
I just don't share that view is all. I don't value RBs on a 2nd contract. It's never panned out for us. And don't say Smith because everything in the 90's panned out.
In a perfect G2 world, I'd cut the fat, release both and get nothing in return (like always) because the staff are idiots.
Sign a vet RB without an injury history, cheaper than a tag amount. Then I draft a couple RBs and find more. I'd load up like I would Cornerbacks & safeties.
Or, offer Pollard a very team friendly extension now, because he MIGHT still be effective. (see injury history).

And this is all 100% assuming the staff somehow does a 180 and utilizes their RBs. Lol.

franchise tagging a player that may not be able to play for part of the season and will most likely not play like he has been playing is not smart. Guess the Jones are trying to be loyal to pollard.

Not sure why you sign him on the advice of the same doctors who told them Gallup would recover to 100%.

RB is one of the few positions on the field where you don't need to invest a lot of resources. You can dumpster dive for rbs or get them in round 3. The team has bigger needs to fill if it wants to have any chance of overtaking Philly and SF. Even with Pollard wracking up 1500 yards and all those big runs , the team did not sniff the super bowl. We need DTs, LBs, WR, CB.......maybe 2 CBs.

dont understand the thinking. Let him hit the open market-really dont see anyone paying him top 5 money. If they offer less than top 5 offer little more and save difference. It they offer more move on. It also opens up problems for next year with the player again having to renegotiate with a top 5 base. It didnt work for Schultz, Dak, or Zeke. Hes also not a heavy load back so we'll need to search for someone to pair with him since Zeke is way to high.

Dallas had the best record against winning record teams this regular season last time I had checked.
Yup, I read that stat too. And it’s a stat that doesn’t change the reality of the teams they beat or the fact they did nothing again this year and lost to the first legit team they played in the playoffs.

Lol at this team not being able to let go of a position that's the easiest to replace

starting to think its not loyalty but Jerry continually overvaluing his assets. He seems to value his players as the best when they are average to slightly above (Martin being only exception). They certainly arent top 5-proof being they have won anything in 27 years

No offense but this is a major theme and a major problem with this organization. Like it or not the team needs to be doing everything they can to get the better of the players, not the other way around.
But it is respectable. I think Jerry will give him at least a year to try and recover. I like that about Jerry.

Have I missed something? Has there been anything in the news suggesting that Pollard wont be available week 1?

again, I'm not opposed to re-signing Pollard, but he is what he is, a change of pace back, no way he lasts a whole season trying to shoulder the load Zeke has carried... as for Zeke he needs to be cut, their is hardly any tread left on those tires.
Anyone that thought he was just a change of pace back was proven dead wrong.

Pollard is not a 25 carry a game guy, but he doesnt need to be. He can do all the damage he needs with 15-20 touches. Hes THAT good.

The day of one guy getting 25-30 carries is all but dead anyway.

Pollard is 100% a featured back in a RB by committee. Which is the way things should be anyway.

Yeah. I cannot see them paying two RBs top 5 money. Zeke has to take a significant pay cut or he is out.
He was indicating that he's up to taking a pay cut, so I think he will. I think Pollard getting the tag for a year is a good idea. This allows us to get a 4th round RB.

Yeah he's too dynamic to let go. It's one year. It also makes it less likely Zeke or Schultz are here. This is a good thing.
If you let them both go, who replaces them. People forgot how badly we struggled running the ball with Randle in 2015 with a much better line. Everyone expected them to draft a HB in 15 and they didnt. Didnt even pick up a decent UDFA. There is no guarantee that they will actually adequately fill the spot

Zeke will 100% be here next season (on a reduced number) so yall that cosign this are ok with allocating $16m+ to that position next year?

Pass. Draft a guy and use that money on the defense
Y'all are crazy. I'm surprised there is so much pushback in here for a one year tag. He is our most dynamic player on offense. You don't get rid of a great player bc of money allocated in another player (Zeke). You get rid of the washed player. Again, its only a one year commitment. Much more deserving than Schultz's tag.

He actually thinks Zeke has value as a runner.

Bingo. Teams love the franchise tag because you can always make money fit for one year, plus the RB tag is a fraction of the cost of tagging almost any other position.

Pollard is a proven asset in this league and the thought process that you can just plug and play any 5th round rookie RB on the board is completely false.

It seems like a no brainer decision to me.

If they franchise Pollard it means they don't have any plans to keep their own free agents. I really like Pollard, but we have to remember, he was a 4th round draft pick. RBs can be found in the middle rounds. It makes no sense to pay $11 million for 2 RBs so it really makes no sense to pay $11 million for 1. My guess is they are threatening to franchise him to pressure him into signing a new deal with Dallas.

Pollard is not an every down RB.

I would rather they continue to build the OL until anyone can run behind it. Then draft anyone.
