Pollard is fantastic but we have to let him walk

He's going to top 1500 scrimmage yards and have something like 15 TDs this year. And he's only going to be 26 next year. I'm pretty sure someone would bite hard on that, maybe MIA or LAR or LV, someone anyway. And if the Cowboys want to cut Zeke and have SB aspirations (which they will), the franchise tag makes a ton of sense: yeah, it's expensive, but it gives you continuity and it comes with no out-year obligations, so you don't have to give him a competitive 4-year contract and end up paying for his decline.
That's pretty great #'s for a part time back

He may have made a run at the rushing record if he didn't have a progress stopper in his way lmao

But nobody sees that

I would like to keep Pollard for sure, just don't think we can afford him. We can't just cut Zeke as people have suggested as 2023 his cap number is 16.72 million and we would still be on the hook for 11.86 million dead money against the cap.
In 2024 if we cut him the cap number is 14.32 million and we would save 8.28 million so the dead money would be only about 6 million. That is cutting pre-June 1st.

I doubt that for one main reason
We don’t have the cap space to tag him without doing something else
We currently have the tag on Shultz
Remove it and let Shultz walk.
That should free up the tag and the money for Pollard.

They ran Murray a lot because they were trying to protect Romo. They didn’t want Romo having to carry the offense. The Cowboys felt they could find a cheaper option at RB and allowed Murray to walk. They signed Darren McFadden the following season, but he wasn’t the player he was. They tried using a combination of him and Joseph Randall to make up for Murray’s production, but it didn’t work and Romo ended up getting hurt. The Cowboys had 700 fewer rushing yards in 2015, resulting in Romo having to go back to carrying the offense. He was back to attempting 40+ passes. Him being injured prompted the Cowboys to draft Zeke in 2016. You mentioned Aaron Jones, but the Packers signing him for the kind of money they did ended up costing them Davante Adams. Hard to pay an RB and QB a huge amount of money and not lose players. We’ll see what the Cowboys do during the offseason. Another thing you have to remember is they’re going to need a lot of money to re-sign Parsons, Diggs and CeeDee. They’re currently preparing for those contracts.
I'm not sure what we're arguing about at this point. Yes, it will be hard for the Cowboys to sign everyone, I don't disagree. I doubt the Cowboys will be able to sign Pollard to a long-term contract because I think someone else will offer more. That leaves the franchise tag as likely their only real option for keeping him around next year, which seems pretty viable to me because it doesn't interfere with signing those other guys long-term.

The Cowboys had Joseph Randle in Murray's last year, and nothing was preventing them from using him more than they did. But they only gave him 51 carries. They didn't care about spelling Murray because they had already decided it was his last year with them, so why not run him into the ground?

I’m about as anti pay RBs as it gets but Pollard is a playmaking weapon.

I’d franchise him and do everything I can ti get out of Zekes contract.

You know Jerry.

If he's paying him he's playing him. Ha ha ha

I just hope Pollard is making more so we can start the game with Himmmmm!

We gonna be burning them Zeke jerseys after these playoffs. Trust me.

It's all relative. How big a money are we talking about? I am never a fan of just letting great players walk out the door. Count me in the camp that wants to re-sign Pollard, at a team friendly rate so we can keep a great playmaker.

You’re the one who disagreed with what I said. It’s pretty obvious what my argument is, it’s about money. It’s possible they could franchise Pollard but he’ll cost over 12M for one season and that may deter the Cowboys. There’s some around Dallas that think the Cowboys might hang onto Zeke at a much lower deal. If Pollard were to light it up in the playoffs that could prompt the Cowboys to go the extra mile to keep him. We’ll see how the rest of the season plays out.

Cut Zeke, take the hit for $11.86M of dead money, restructure Dak's contract pushing cap dollars to future years, and franchise tag Pollard for $12.6M

How about seeing what he's asking for, who else is available, and if someone else is willing to restructure before making that decision?

He's asking for as much as he can get, nobody else will do what he can, and nobody with Jerry's magic blessing is going to restructure.

jones boys probably are already writing up a low ball offer , he can take or leave.
Thing is they paid elliot so much, I dont see how they can pay/keep pollard except with tag, and even that will cost more than
they will want to pay.
for some reason jerry loves elliot, so say goodbye to pollard.
