TRADED Porter traded to Cowboys (2027/6th round, 2028/2nd round)

There is only 14 games left this season. 13 for two teams. There’s a big difference between the two receivers you indicated and George Pickens. They weren’t about to become free agents. No team is giving up any significant draft capital for a player they can’t stop from becoming a free agent in less than six months. After the Cowboys final regular season game they can sign Pickens. At that point why would Pickens be in a hurry to sign? As a free agent he could pick where he plays. Any team interested in him, and paying him, would simply wait for him to become a free agent. If he’s going to be expensive they may as well sign him and not give up draft assets.
That's just not true. They were about to become free agents. Brown was in the final year of his rookie deal. Hill was entering the final year of his contract. IF Pickens is tagged it's the same. He doesn't decide if he is tagged, the team does. Devante Adams was tagged and then traded to the Raiders for a 1st and 2nd rounder and then signed to a full market deal.

You might be right about Tomlin but I wouldn't be shocked at all if Shotty is sent packing if this team doesn't make a playoff run. Jerry is 83 and probably not buying any green bananas these days. He wants to win now. Thats why we suddenly have become so active in the trade market. He couldn't care less about 2 years on a coaching contract. He's running out of time.
If thats the case then why did he hire him in the first place? Did he really think Schotty was some gem everyone else passed over for decades?

Or work out a long-term or short-term deal. His salary for this year (minus signing bonus) is $4 million. He might be willing to take a two-year deal where we had a sizable signing bonus. Let's say we gave him a $10 million bonus, adding a $5 million cap hit, then throw in a non-guaranteed $20 million base for next year that allows us to move on with a $5 million hit if he doesn't work out. If he does work out, we have him under contract but can try to negotiate a long-term deal to bring down the base that we gave him.

Essentially, we'd be giving him $10 million to make sure we have him on the team next year if we want to have him on the team. But because of the way it is structured, he gets a nice incentive to sign this year and he's set to make top 10 corner money next year (without a new deal).
Ya, there is no way he agrees to that when he wants a 30m per year deal. You make this trade with the belief that you are willing to be in that ballpark on a deal

Yep…he’s gone and we keep $13M next year.

I like the trade relative to the cost. As long as Jerry doesn’t ask me to help pay the bill, I don’t care how he spends his money. The salary cap is all ****** anyway. (Edit: why can’t I say F-oo-g-a-z-i)

Don’t pay attention to Risen…he gets a softy anytime cornerback is mentioned.
Maybe spell it ******

Edit: lol that didnt work. Im leaving it like that because it looks funny

It would just be a placeholder. Porter would get a bump this season with the $10 million bonus added to the $5 million he's making, and he'd get another $20 million in base (which would make his cap hit $25 million in 2027) if Dallas couldn't negotiate a long-term deal with him next year. $25 million for one year is among the top 10 in the league for corners.
That math is wrong. Reality is you are giving him $30M for 1 year with $10M guaranteed paid this year as a signing bonus.

As usual you are a frustrating user, often back and forth head banging with you.

Joey Porters price was a bit high. A 2nd rounder? Yeah that's too high a price for me. I wouldve sent Schoon, a 6th rounder and a 3rd.

But did you not see Lamar throw to an open middle in the last play of the Ravens game? Bland is not an open field cover man. He's better on the corners against someone that can't dominate him physically. And he's sometimes a utility on the line of scrimmage but we have absolutely 0. ZERO. ZILCH. defensive backs I trust in the open field.

Joey Porter is a trade that needed to be made.
It's a 2nd in 2028 which is a 3rd in 2027 value wise and a throw away 6th. And where do you get that a corner can't be bullied on the outside? X receivers are typically the most physical in the game. They play on the outside.

Maybe we'll still be in this at the trade deadline and Jerry can get us a pass rusher. These moves might not ultimately help us this season, but they can be the vet additions we need as these young players mature.

We'll have to do some cap dancing, but teams have shown that you can manipulate how the money falls. We don't have to lose anyone we don't want to lose.
If we need a pass rusher then get one now. But as you said, it won't help us this year and by next year we'll have other needs. We need a rebuild. We've needed it since 2018 but jerry keeps throwing single pieces at it.

I don't think he was doing that or would have anything to gain from that. Look at the time stamp. I don't think the full details were out yet or perhaps he didn't have them.
It's in the Tweet he quoted, isn't it? I can't be bothered to look back, but I think it is.

I can't believe people on here are complaining about this trade. Good lord, everyone constantly complains about the Cowboys not doing anything.

Exactly, and, like someone said, if this was Philly or LA, people on here would be complaining that we didn't make this trade. I, for one, love this move.

I don't know. I just know it's different from what we have been doing.

Would trading for Maxx Crosby before the season (despite the steep cost) have resulted in victories over Baltimore (a three-point loss) and New York (a one-TD loss)?

I'm for upgrading the talent while we can because we don't know what the end result will be.

I kinda want TJ or Jack Sawyer more. I don't think they'd cost much, and, in the case of TJ, he could argue it was Marinelli's fault we didn't pick him when he was available (which, it kinda was lol).

Pickens will be entering free agency. Not the final year of his current deal. Cowboys can tag him. And that’s their tag for 2027. Mulugheta will be in the driver’s seat as he’ll tell any team interested “before you consider trading for my client know we will not sign with you for less than $X”. Or “we’ll never sign with you so you’re getting my client for one year at $32.5 million, trade assets for him accordingly”.

I don’t see Jerry giving that kind of control to any agent. Especially Pickens’ particular agent.
