How long have humans been on this planet? It's two thousand freaking seven and some people still don't 'get it'? You don't fight animals for sport. It's ignorant. It's unnecessary. It's cruelty without worthwhile purpose. Simply put, in this case, it's dog stupid. 'nuff said.

Good post. Hey, I gotta run. There is boxing on the television.

Dang, Portis, I bet if you and Vick put your heads together you might figure out how to open a jar.

Funny how everything is.....I bet people on this board smoke weed,

I certainly have before...

maybe a little crack cocaine or other drugs b4

Nope... thought about trying coke one time, then Len Bias died from it, apparently the first time he tried it... I figured if a 6-8 inch, 240 pound rock of a man in top physical condition could be killed by one line of cocaine, I probably ought to stay away from it...

drink and drive,

Never have, never will... indeed, the last alcoholic drink I had was on September 9th, 2001-- the night before my Mom's funeral... I DID get roaring drunk that night, but I was right here at home...

Now that I'm a diabetic, it's highly unlikely there will be a next time...

I hit the Interstate, I set my cruise control on 70... haven't had a ticket since May of 1978...

bought drugs from the dope dealer who in turn bought a gun and killed someone, meaning u helped support them.....

I'm pretty sure the girl I bought dope from back in the day never killed anybody... I'll ask her the next time I see her...

it was a dog fight, though illegal but I bet everyone here has done something that could of been considerd a felony b4.....maybe not everyone

His alleged crime is worse, because it's just CRUEL...

I'm more concern about 15 more soldiers dying in the last 2 days then some damn dogs...

What, you can't be concerned about BOTH?? The thought of two dogs being forced to fight to the death, for the AMUSEMENT of a bunch of subhuman cretins, doesn't disturb you at all??

We should just IGNORE what Vick did?? Is THAT what you're saying??

There is a huge difference between illegal things people do that involve their own well being and things people do that inflict pain and death on a helpless victim.

I'm also unsure what the war in Iraq, the price of gas and the US Space Program have to do with this topic at all.

They call it "ranting"... one rarely makes sense when engaging in such pastimes...

lol portis should be tested for drugs very soon.

I always liked Clinton, thought he was a breath of fresh air, quite funny...

Now, I wouldn't piss on him if he was on fire... he's no better than Vick...

Mods - please let me know if the following comment is one that belongs in the political zone, or if I am still within the rules.

I find it absurd that a congressman would swing his power in writing a letter and threatening government intervention into a private commercial entity, should action not be taken against one of it's employees prior to a criminal charge even being filed.

If I were being investigated for dog fighting, I seriously doubt the government, at any level, would propose that my employer take disciplinary action against me, especially if no charges had even been filed. More to the point, were my employer to take some sort of action against me, citing the investigation, I would have my attorney crawling up HR's hind quarter faster than Bob Lilly got to QBs.

Were you given an antitrust exemption by Congress??

If not, your comparison is invalid...

This goes out to all of you who are repulsed by this and therefore "acting like some sort of saint."

Thank you! Please keep it up. Please don't ever stop taking a stand for what is right, even though the hounds of hell bark against the stand you are taking.

The only way for the ills of the world to truly triumph is for good people to remain silent. Here's to the good people. I salute you. Please keep it up.

I've often thought I should be canonized... Saint Bear, it's got a nice ring to it, don't ya think??

I recall reading on another thread, now closed, that Clinton Portis' statements in support of Michael Vick and dog fighting included "It's his land and it's his property, he can use it any way he wants to." That must be a good argument; all the old slave owners used it.

Oooooooh, I'd give ANYTHING to see Portis' face if somebody made THAT argument to him...

I hadn't thought of it that way, what a cogent argument you just offered... very well said...

I'm not condoning Portis's beliefs bear; I am playing devils advocate.

Oh, I knew that, wild man... that was not directed at you, I know which side of this argument you're on...

I'm truly sorry if you thought I was talking about you...

Although I do believe dog fighting is horrendous and cruel, I do believe there have been some gross over reactions in this thread and other threads with the same subject. I do believe that there should be a reasonable punishment for a crime such as this; however lethal injection would not fit my perspective of justice!

OK, how 'bout castration??

With a dull knife...

I agreed with the rest of your post, but I think you can make a parallel between dog fighting and abusing children. Obviously abusing children holds a more vile stigma in our society, but there are similarities.

Child abuse is much, much worse, but they're the same KIND of crime-- inhuman cruelty...

Maybe I'm soft-hearted, but it rips that heart out to hear a dog howling in pain... how ANYBODY could derive ANY kind of pleasure from watching that is beyond me...

However, I would really like to see in an alternate universe how some of our posters would stand on the issue if a Cowboys player commented on Vick's issue....

So you're saying those here that abhor the idea of dog fighting would change our tunes if it were a Dallas Cowboy involved or giving Vick their blessing?

Now I do know their are enough TO butt kissers here that'd find any excuse to defend that guy....but for the most part they haven't been part of this discussion.

For the rest of us that have(and have so with a passion)...you obviously have no ability to judge character....but I'd say we'd hammer their collective arses whether they were a Cowboy or not....and it's an insult to think we would do otherwise.

Congress has jurisdiction over the NFL in some sense because of the anti-trust exemption. Try getting one of those for your business sometime -- I expect it ain't easy.

On edit: I see SilverBear got there first.

I never said anything as such, you are basing that statement on what you think I meant by the statement and nothing else.... you could have asked me what I meant by the statements, instead of rushing to an incorrect conclusion. My post simply put the question out there as food for thought about how we as Cowboys fans would react if one of our own players was involved in such an accident.

Also,I you don't even know who I am outside of my posts and to judge me as such by my posting would lead me to believe that you yourself have no ability to judge character, since you are basing your opinion on such a shallow form of evaluation.

Did I ever say that anybody on this site would act as the posters on extremeskins.com? Never. So thanks, but anyways....

As I understand it, the NFL's exemption only applies to broadcasting deals. And I'd be interested to know what type of jurisdiction Congress can claim because of the exemption.
