Dallas threw the ball 16 more times than the year before when they went 13-3 and had the #3 Offense in the NFL and this team was behind a lot more.

I didn't hear any complaints them about throwing too much then.

It's execution people.

The fact is, any analogy to last year doesn't matter, because they were figured out... The 4-6 was an effective defense for two years, but was thrown into the dungeon because teams adjusted. Minnesota had one of the most brilliant years offensively, with their core, but what did that do for their next year, and year after that? How great was Brian Billick's offense in Baltimore as head coach? Hell, the only reason they won the Super Bowl was because of Marvin Lewis...

That offense was figured out in the Giants play-off game. If anything, that second-half performance by the Giants was the same game-plan teams employed this year. They played man on TO, with safety help over the middle, and with the verticla routes of Garrett, they got to Romo and forced him into erratic behavior.. The collapse of the Cowboys had nothing to do with the collapse of the OL, it had everything to do with Garrett going back to being Garrett...

Garrett refused to take lesson...

Happy?

We'll be sure to get this directive straight to TO pronto. mmmk?

Remember.

Save. This. Reply.

If this team does not win the Super Bowl next season, I will be saddened that it did not achieve it's goal once again, but I will continue to be faithful to the franchise. However, it will not change my stance or any of my past, present and/or future statements about Terrell Owens one iota.

Clear?

Didn't think so.

Can I get an "Amen"?

I don't blame you, but the fact that the coach mentioned it pretty much immediately after the season ended makes me think that he feels pretty strongly about it. :)

And besides all the aspects about controlling turnovers and keeping the defense fresh, Wade's philosophy on offense has always been simply to get the ball in the hands of his best players. Well, in one year, we went from a very average RB corps of Julius and Barber to a very talented one of Felix, Choice, and Barber. And we added a very gifted young TE, too. That looks to me like a pretty massive shift in the balance of power talent-wise towards the RBs and TE. (And I mention the TE because I include shorter, controlled passes to the TE as much safer pass plays than the ones so deep down the field.)
I just wonder how many of Wade's offensive ideas will ever reach the field. I remember Wade saying (in his first press conference, I think) "Julius Jones is a screen runner." Nothing ever came of it.

You use the words "Wade's philosophy on offense" and it seems like a strange statement--but it shouldn't be. Garrett can come up with some great specific plays, but I'd trust Wade's offensive philosophy more than I would JG's at this point. I'd go with the experienced guy who sees the bigger picture, and that's obviously not Garrett. Maybe Wade needs to be more forceful in getting his vision of the offense onto the the field. Maybe Romo and his OC just need to listen.

I get the impression that there are a lot of toes in the organization that could use getting stepped on. Repeatedly, if need be.

Exactly... JG seems more like a position coach, than anything else..

I would definitely get rid of Owens. Not because he is a bad player, he isn't. Not by any wild stretch of the imagination.

Not because the fans and media are calling for it. Screw that. Who cares? I don't.

Not because it could drive Garrett or Sherman away. I'm the biggest Garrett shill on the forum. I have a serious agenda for him to be the next Head Coach.

There are three reasons why I would do this. Felix Jones, Marion Barber, and Tashard Choice.

I love ball control Offense. I love to pound the other team to death. I love to see the Defense getting rest while the Offense moves the chains.

Roy can be a #1, Austin #2, Crayton the #3. Witten is the best weapon in the passing attack anyway and Bennett could be utilized more.

The money saved could shore up the O-line which is badly needed. I'd like to spend on Defense so that they can be the attacking disruptive force I want. 59 sacks in 2008 was great, but they gave up too many points, too much yardage and wore down.

The payoff would be less distractions. Sorry Owens fans, but denying he is a distraction is wearing blinders. Guy is one hell of a football player, but he is high maintenance and what this team needs is a new focus. Ball control is the answer.

We'd still have some home run hitters with Roy, Austin and especially Felix.

We might score fewer points, in fact we probably would. But I'd trade that for a more focused, less distracted team that wins more and I think we'd win more in 2009 with Owens gone and a new focus on Offense.

It's just my opinion and you're free to disagree.

But Hos, there's no way any team can win the Super Bowl without TO.

I'm 99.9 percent sure no one said that and you're just using it for alleged shock value. Carry on slick.

Actually, I want to mimic the 90's Cowboys who rode Emmitt Smith to 3 titles by wearing teams down. The kind of coaching Jason Garrett learned under guys like Zampese and Norv. Back to his true roots.

It's great to have a quick strike Offense, but I think we would be a better team by beating the other teams up. Guys like Flo and BIGG are maulers. Gurode is too. Holland could be. Columbo is a mauler who likes to be an enforcer. Give them what they need, a reason to beat the hell out of someone.

That was a good post by Hos Dave but even that team had a combination of Troy, Michael, and Emmitt running mad game on opposing DCs. So it wasn't all Emmitt but he did play a big part. I don't believe Garrett has the patience needed to run a well balanced offensive attack. Perhaps some of that can be attributed to his infancy in the position.

Even if Garrett did you would still have owens acting like a two year old.
Difference is when Mike acted like a two year old Jimmy was his daddy.:D
No one wanted that dady mad.
Can't even imagine Phillips pissed.

I do not rank the Cowboys' woes on a scale.

I do acknowledge what I consider are all the problems which hampered the team's success every year equally, although I must profess to illustrating one or two above the rest at times.

Look no further than my signature line for one example. Hey! It doesn't have a picture of Terrell Owens!

All teams have problems. I doubt that any team in history has ever eliminated all its problems, but I also believe that teams can improve their chances of working towards a common goal by eliminating as many of their problems as humanly possible.

Question answered.

Question posed.

Since you believe that NFL players are not affected by "distractions", do you also believe that NFL players can specify "distractions" which can affect a team's overall performance OUTSIDE lack of tackling, dropped passes, etc?
And THAT is one reason why your opinions are taken so seriously by so many even though you joke around as much as any of us. You discuss points without being all emotional about it. It isn't about searching for scapegoats it's about fixing what isn't working.

I'm not a chameleon. I don't do 180's. I never wanted Owens here when he was in a 49er uniform. I never wanted him here when he was in an Eagles uniform, BUT you think that I wouldn't want him NOW in '09 when I didn't want him in '06, '07 or '08?

Bull****.

What I want from Owens is what I've always stated on this forum.

1. Shut the hell up.
2. Do his job which includes not dropping those passes which hit him in the hands.
Happy?

BRAVO for your honesty ....

I wish more would admit that TO could win the SuperBowl and cure cancer as a Cowboy and they still would want him cut.

You can't stand him and that's fine. Stop hiding behind the "He's a distraction" foolishness and just keep stating it over and over and over again that you want him cut. Maybe someday, what you want will matter.

I agree with getting rid of TO due to his attitude of selfishness that handcuffs the OC and polarizes the lockerroom. Addition by subtraction as some might say.

I also agree with building the team around the potential 3-headed monster we have at RB. The one problem I have had with JJ's building of the team has been the focus on skill-players on offense but the neglect/poor drafting of OL. We haven't invested a first rounder in the OL in some 25 years and have done a bad job in general of developing OL drafted in the lower rounds. I think Felix and Choice especially show unusual talents that are complimentary and Barber is a great battering ram with some ability to get to the outside. The key will be Houck putting together a cohesive unit - I don't know if it is Houck that slipped up this year or if it truly was how back Proctor/Berger/McQ are at guard. I think it is probably more of the latter, although it still doesn't entirely explain how horrific we were in blitz pickup this year.

Hopefully, next year with Kosier/Holland healthy, we will establish a legitimate, consistent power running attack for the first time since about 1996. I also hope we feature more of a 2-TE set as I always believe in getting your best players on the field as much as possible and Bennett > Cricket/Crayton. I also love the mismatches this can potentially create in an unselfish and creative offense that feeds off of a power running game and play-action pass attack.
