I disagree with those saying that the QB position is weak right now. IMO, its the opposite. There are so many guys that can throw the football that they all blend together and only a few stand out.

https://www.pro-football-reference.com/years/2003/passing.htm

There is the QB list from 20 years ago. Guys like John Kitna, Chad Pennington, Tommy Maddox, etc. were NOT good QB's. The median passer rating that year was 79.6. Last year was 91.1. Rules changes have inflated that some but that's not all of it. A lot of the improvement is simply a lot more passing being done at lower levels of football with more athletic people being given the option to play the position.
Great point.

Sounds about right.

With a better 2023 season, Dak can easily jump up to top 4 (like his jersey #). ;)

Well one thing you can’t cherry pick or argue against and that’s Cousins is 11-20 in prime time games…..
I mean he has had some clunkers on prime time for sure but it's a team game...lolz

Washington was a horrible team, Vikings trash OL his entire career, and bar several years tmedicore to trash defenses

We can make excuses all day

When it's all said and done Dak has had a vastly superior supporting cast on offense then Cousins and he still puts up similar if not argurably better stats

Imo not a huge gap between them at all. Cousins has always got hate and well any cowboys QB is media hype machine good or had

I can also cherry pick certain stats too. Talk about lazy ways of looking at stuff. Beyond silly approach without looking at the bigger picture.

Comparing them since 2016. Yes dak was a rookie and learning so not exactly the best comparison but...

Dak has had a vastly superior supporting cast around him his entire career . Vikings OL was complete trash from 2018-2021 ranking in the mid to low 20s. 2017 ranked 14th and last year was either 18 or 19 I believe(which still sucks). Dak also benifits from a superior run game bar the 2020 season.

Cousins has better comp %, td %, and better qbr. Y/A and AY/A the same along with a couple other stats. Dak is superior in less turnover and turnerver %.

Playoffs Cousins has better QBR and Comp%

This all playing behind a vastly inferior OL. Trust me I hate arguing the "stats" approach and don't think either quarterback is going to lead their team to a superbowl on their shoulders.

I too can find memes or twitter posts suggesting certain cherry picked stats that show he's superior to even mahomes.
Cousins is a poor leader. Great talent, mental midget.

So silly worrying about 6 or 7...vs say 11 or 13.

There's Patrick Mahomes.
Then there's 3 or 4 elites right behind him that COULD win MVP or win a SB.

Then there's a big blob of Kirk Cousin'ses.... usually good enough to eek you into the playoffs, but would need a dynamite team around them on both sides of the line to win a SB (Dak's in this group)... and then there's a blob of just lower tier guys....and lastly a handful of guys who are REALLY better suited as backups, and will likely spend as much of their careers as #2 qbs as starter

It’s funny y’all think this because it’s some 90s statues that wouldn’t survive in todays game.

These defenders are faster and more athletic than ever.
I don't think the best players are any better than the past few decades--I'm sure players like LT and Reggie While would still be the best at their positions--but like the NBA, the average player is better than ever. I have virtually no doubt that the average back up lineman/LB/DB today is better than the same from 20 years ago.

I agree. Find it funny people are trying to push that narrative though.

It’s a fair ranking. His haters will say he’s top 20.

Honestly you can rank him anywhere from 6 to 12. It depends on how you view last season. If you weigh last season heavy your rank him about 12. If you use his whole body of work then yes it would be closer to 6 or 7.
After top 5 does it really matter.
