Going to bite on this outside my better judgement. The politics of this thing annoy me because I look to football for something else; a diversion, an oasis. I don't care to boycott anything. I will watch what I wish when I wish. But I am losing interest, and the politics is only one reason. Heck, I was a political science major. I love politics. But this is football, entertainment, a chance to put down our swords and enjoy an event, whether we are progressive, conservative, libertarian or whatever.
That said, between reams of political sermons, Goodell judgments, rule book nonsense, interpretive Alice in Wonderland explanations, etc., the league is losing me. And the players would do well to be concerned that the self righteous commissioner has no trouble with labeling, on thin to nonexistent evidence, a young man, black or white, with a tag that could stick to him forever.
I really don't care to debate the rights and wrongs of how I feel about watching a ball game.
I am on the fence. And that is no political statement. My views are pretty complex and don't tend to adhere to simple left and right dogma.
I'm just not happy with what this has become, and I might vote with my feet. Likely will turn the game on and see if I can muster the same excitement.
But it isn't on yet.
