Question From a Commanders Fan

Sean Taylor is probably the biggest hitter in the league! What are you talking about?!!
Archuleta can lay the smack down too!

Yes he's the biggest hitter in the league if Roy Williams isn't in it. Keith Davis beats him too. I've watched both Boys and Skins games. Sean has smashed some receivers, but he doesn't pack the punch like Roy.

I don't recall Roy ever laying on the field and writhing in pain for over a minute after delivering a hit to a defenseless Darrell Jackson and having to be helped up and off the sideline by trainers while Jackson walks off with the ball and a 37 yard reception. I don't recall Jackson looking down at Roy and saying "I weight 200 lbs. I'm not 180!" (which, by the way, is 32 fewer lbs than Taylor weighs)

Sorry about the video quality. But it was too good to let that spoil it. If anyone wants to make an animated GIF of it, be my guest. Enjoy!

I don't recall Taylor ever getting trucked quite like Brian Dawkins did when he met Mike Sellars last season.

Hello fellow NFL Fans!

Don't be alarmed, for I come in peace! Obviously the Commanders have been making a splash in the early stages of Free Agency, which people are taking many different ways. I notice that many of you seem to think that the Commanders are in someway circumventing the Salary Cap, or blatantly ignoring it. Many Commanders fans feel the same way. The solution most Commanders fans have come to, however, is that as much as many opposing team's fans hate to admit it, the staff probably does know what they're doing. We're but feeble fans when it comes to offseason transactions.

That isn't what I came here to discuss, though. My question is about (yes, you guessed it) the Terrell Owens situation. When you guys cut Keyshawn Johnson it looked like the Terrell Owens deal was going to fall into place. Now, things don't look like they're going so smoothly. Hypothetically, if you are not able to come to terms with Owens, and he ends up in Denver or elsewhere, what are your thoughts on your potential offensive production for the upcoming season.

You'll have Bledsoe throwing to Glenn as your number one reciever (correct me if I'm wrong), and Julius Jones in the backfield? Your strongest lineman in Larry Allen is rumored to be cut. It looks to me like if the Owens deal falls through, then the Cowboys will have moved nowhere but backwards thus far in Free Agency. I came here not to troll, but rather to see if my views coincided with that of Cowboys fans.

If Owens is signed I can't wait to see how he fares against the Commanders bolstered secondary. Cowboys fan or not, I don't think any of us are Terrell Owens fans (except maybe for the way he tore apart the Eagles). I doubt any of us would mind seeing him take one in the chest from Sean Taylor. :)

Thanks for your responses!

Read the TO rumor update on this board. I think it's a very likely description of exactly what's going on. At this point, I believe we'll be in the market for a WR solution that doesn't include TO or Key.

My preference: I'd give our 2nd, or a 2nd and a low contingent pick next year, for J Walker and hope to recoup the pick in a trade down in the first to get our OLB.

Next best option would be Moulds + our 3rd for (RFA) Burleson, which would give us another WR Bledsoe likes and is familiar with, and a young option qualitatively comparable to what you signed in B Lloyd.

Third option requires taking a WR early in the draft, elevating Crayton, picking up a veteran castoff for depth, and spending the money we would otherwise have spend on TO or Key on an OLB in FA. Maybe Lavar? That could be interesting.

Definitely some scrambling, but well-run teams have the room to exercise options. I think each of the scenarios above is at least a moderate improvement over what we had last year.

Well, that's nice of you to come here and voice your concerns, but, you should have not done that!

Everyone in the NFL knows that you are the next SuperBowl winners...

The Cowboys suck, the Eagles suck, and the Giants suck....the Commanders are the creme of the crop! Your team is so far ahead of everyone else in the NFL that it's useless to even discuss these matters!

Enjoy your SuperBowl this coming season!

That is exactly what I feel as well.....

not only could we resign keyshawn we could draft probably any WR we want at #18 or still get a good WR on the first day.

Yeah, but you feel that every year. And we're being sarcastic.

I am well aware of that. And as Kevin I did not join my own Commanders forum until december last year. I am not here to talk smack (although I may have the first day hah)

Yeah I remember that. I actually thought Taylor broke his arm when I first saw it. Do you have that ProBowl clip where Roy nailed some guy that was coming full speed at him and didn't budge? That was an instant classic!

Just remember to come back when things aren't going so well, last season, A few chiefs fans showed up here, talked smack, Lost and never came back again, just like now we are being over run with Skins fans. At least here you can voice your thoughts not like Extremeskins where you must tow the party line or get banned.:laugh2: :lombardi:

Well, since we're being honest, I picked you guys to win the NFCE last year: defense, Gibbs, and a running game. I was roundly mocked.

I think you're contenders this year, too. I think when it's all said and done, we will be right there with you, though. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Yet another ingrate that has a failure to comprehend basic english.

Try and keep up, Chico...

Sean Taylor CAN lay a good hit cuz of his size, but it is NOT his style of play.

Is that clear enough for you?

Hell, Archuleta is a bigger hitting safety then Taylor. Take the Skins blinders off for just ONE freakin' second.

Gotcha, thanks.

There definitely have been an onslaught of Commanders newbs around here.

Apparantly they think signing a bunch of players in FA (and vastly overpaying them in the process) means they have some sort of bragging rights.

You'd think by now that they'd know (especially being Commanders fans) that spending a lot of money on average-to-good FAs doesn't automatically mean they'll be good.

Side note.... seriously, Archuleta the highest paid safety in league history? *** is Danny Boy smoking?

Would have rather had Milloy brought in and Clark re-signed personally. Lot of cash for this guy, I hope he pans out well. Thankfully he will play at the LOS, and be asked to rush the passer/protect the lanes. The thought of him in coverage flat out scares me.

Actually I think Archuleta, at this point, is better then Milloy, and he's not on the decline.

But he still got way overpaid. Gonna make it interesting when Roy's contract is up. Ouch.

Fred Smoot is a much better cover corner than Toast, dont fool yourself

Rogers got beat worse than a redneck wife who forgot dinner

You obviously didn't watch too many skins games last season. Try not to make that so obvious next time.

Not only is Rogers a better cover corner, he's light years better in run support, blitzing, and wrapping up the tackler. Smoot, due to his slight build, would never play well in bump-n-run, and always gave up completions for first downs. Rogers, in just one season, eliminated that problem for us. The Commanders don't miss Fred Smoot at all, and considering how badly he played up in Minn. I'm sure he wishes he would've re-signed with us.

He jammed his neck during the hit. How is that play even relevant to a discussion of who's been trucked? Taylor wasn't trucked. He rocked Jackson, Jackson is a tough guy and he took it, unlike Terry "Flinch" Glenn. How many hitters have jammed their necks after contact? Numerous. Try again.

I've never seen Roy rolling on the ground like a little girl after a big hit. You'd think such an experienced "big" hitter would know better than to lead with his helmet. As to its relevance, the discussion was about which safeties were the biggest hitters, and someone mentioned that they thought Roy and Dawkins were bigger hitters than Taylor. What relevance did Dawkins getting trucked by Sellers have to do with anything? We weren't talking about safeties that have gotten trucked. And if I were bored enough to look through Commanders games, I'm sure I could find a clip where Taylor has gotten run over by someone. It happens to the best of would-be tacklers.

Regardless, had Taylor not led with his helmet on that illegal hit, he probably would have been okay. Not very smart for such a "big" hitter. I'm sure you guys were all ready to add that to Sean's greatest hits collection, until Jackson got right up and Taylor just rolled around on the ground for a minute. I'm glad Taylor's all right though... wouldn't want him to miss his court date.
